1 Scope
This Group Standard applies to flat products (uncoated, electrolytically galvanized, hot-dip galvanized) made of dual
phase steel.
GS 93032-1 applies with regard to general rules, material designations, rules for drawing entry of the material and
coatings to be used and approved by BMW.

3 Definitions
The microstructure of dual phase steels consists of a soft ferrite matrix with a dispersed mainly martensitic phase. The
content of bainite increases with increasing strength. At a given high tensile strength dual phase steels show a low
yield ratio (Re/Rm) and a strong work hardening capacity. Therefore, dual phase steels are especially suited for forming
operations with high stretching portions.
Dual phase steels may exhibit significant edge crack sensibility. The edge crack sensibility shall be determined
according to AA-0519 and be considered in the process design.
4 Dimension and permissible dimensional deviations
For the dimensions and the permissible dimensional deviations DIN EN 10051 applies for hot-rolled products,
DIN EN 10131 applies for cold-rolled products and DIN EN 10143 applies for continuous hot-dip coated products.
5 Designation of steel types
The designation of the steel types with respect to their intended application, mechanical and physical properties shall
be done according to the regulations in GS 93032-1.

1) Apply to longitudinal samples at room temperature and sample geometry according to DIN EN ISO 6892-1,
sample form 2 (measuring length l0 = 80 mm). Exception for North America: sample form 1 (measuring
length l0 = 50 mm).
2) At thicknesses < 0,6 mm the minimum elongation after fracture decreases by 2 units.
3) For test processes refer to DIN EN 10325.
4) Not included in VDA 239-100.

7 Zinc adhesion
At strength bonded hot-dip coated dual phase steels, zinc adhesion is to be ensured by the supplier according to
AA-0509.
For strength-bonded components made of hot-dip coated dual phase steels with a guaranteed minimum yield
strength > 400 MPa a component and supplier-dependent release shall be coordinated with the BMW specialist
departments.
