Adlerian Therapy Sample Script (Day 1)
Adlerian Therapy Sample Script (Day 1)
Therapist: Good Afternoon, (Clients name). It's nice to see you today.
Therapist: So, let's start by checking in. How have you been since our last session?
Client: Since last session and lately i feel that i was not confident enough to the things
i always do everyday.
Therapist: It seems like you are experiencing some problems in your confidence. If you don't
mind, can you tell me more about what happened?
Client: Honestly, everytime i go to school I feel like I'm always tired and doubting my
abilities. It's affecting my performance in school and how I interact with my teachers and my
classmates.
Therapist: I understand that you feel that way, especially when you are facing circumstances
that trigger your feelings.
Therapist: Let's take a look at it. Can you remember any early experiences or situations in
your life that might affect these feelings?
Client: Hmmm, in my life I always need to prove to everyone else that I am strong and I
always achieve the things that my parents want. In short, my parents had high expectations.
That's why I cannot afford to make mistakes.
Therapist: I see you growing up believing that your worth is based on the validations
surrounding you and the achievements that you have achieved. All of this contributes to your
struggles with confidence. How do you think these are impacting your current situation?
Client: I think I focus too much on seeking validation and approval from others, so
I forget that there are situations and places where I can make mistakes in my life.
Therapist: This is a good realization. I want to explain to you that in Adlerian therapy, we
explore how the early experiences shape or mould our beliefs and actions in the
present.
Therapist: Now, let's work together on developing a healthier and more positive sense of
self-worth. What do you think are some small steps you can take to challenge these beliefs
and assert yourself more effectively?
Client: Hmmm, the small steps that I can take are achieving goals for myself, practicing to
develop my confidence, and telling myself that it is okay to make mistakes because I am
also human. The important thing is that I learned a lesson from these mistakes.
Therapist: These are excellent ideas. Remember to be gentle and accepting with yourself
while you face these challenges. Progress may not occur overnight, but each step forward is
a success. Is it okay for you?
Client: Yes, is it okay for me, thank you for guiding and supporting me. Therapist: You`re
welcome, I am always here to support and help you. Take care always.
