(3) Electric fuses, normally rated at 30 amperes (30A), are tested by passing a
gradually increasing electric current through them and recording the current,

(8) The speeds of cars passing a certain point on a motorway can be taken to be
normally distributed. Observation show that of cars passing the point, 95% are
traveling at less than 85 m.p.h and 10% are traveling at less than 55 m.p.f

(a) Find the average speed of the cars passing at the point.
(b) Find the proportion of cars that travel at more than 70 m.p.h.

(9) The heights of men in a particular district are distributed with mean µ and
standard deviation σ. On the basis of the results obtained from a random
