MATHEMATICS EVALUATION GRADE: 11º

TOPIC: FUNCTIONS

This test is made up of questions posed from different situations. These questions consist
of:
• A situation, which can be a graph, a table, a text or a combination of them
• A problem, which can be given in the affirmative or interrogative form
• Four answer options
Remember that it is possible to find two valid options to solve the problem posed; You
must select among the given options, only one, the one that you consider relates the
mathematical concepts in a more structured way with the particular conditions of the
problem situation.

ANSWER QUESTIONS 1 TO 4 ACCORDING TO THE FOLLOWING

INFORMATION

Last month, the intercollegiate athletics final took place, in the 200 meter dash between
elementary students Diego and Valentina. The following graph illustrates the routes of
Diego and Valentina.

1. A detailed analysis of the graph allows us to affirm that.

a) Diego stopped for 4 seconds to wait for Valentina and by changing his
pace he lost the race.
b) Valentina was faster than Diego when starting the race.
c) Diego pretended to finish with cramps, having lost the race.
d) Valentina did the last 100 meters in 8 seconds.

2. Regarding Valentina's journey, it can be stated that:

a) The distance was greater in the first 16 seconds than in the last 8 seconds
b) Valentina completed the 200 meters in 24 seconds.
c) The route during the first 16 seconds was the same as between the
sixteenth and twenty-fourth seconds.
d) Valentina stopped at the sixteenth second.
3. At the end of the race, the sports commentator stated that Diego lost the race
because:
a) Diego made a longer journey than Valentina
b) After the sixteenth second Valentina significantly outperformed Diego
c) Valentina always ran with constant speed
d) Diego took 4 seconds longer to reach the finish line than Valentina.

4. Regarding the speeds of the two participants, it can be stated that:

a) Neither participant used a constant speed
b) Diego was faster in the first half of the race
c) Valentina was faster at the end of the race
d) Diego lost the race because in the first 16 seconds he used less speed than
Valentina.

5. Professor Ramón asks his students to find the domain of the function P(x)
represented in the figure. Juliana assures that the domain is integers

Will the answer given by Juliana be correct?

a) Yes, because the graph shows us positive and negative integers.
b) no, because it can also take fractional values
c) Yes, because it develops above the X axis
d) no, because it can assume any value of real numbers

ANSWER QUESTIONS 6 TO 8 ACCORDING TO THE FOLLOWING

INFORMATION

Maria Eugenia performs a stress test to analyze the state of her heart and writes
down the time taken to travel a certain distance in the following table.

TIME 1 2 3 4 5
(seconds)
DISTANCE 2 5 10 17 26
(meters)

6. If this regularity holds, from the table it is correct to conclude that:

a) every second the distance is directly proportional to the time
b) the distance traveled will increase infinitely
c) There is an increasing relationship between time and distance traveled
d) The distance traveled is twice the time taken in the first second alone.

7. Maintaining regularity, it follows that Maria Eugenia has traveled between 5 and
6 seconds 11 meters, because
a) The distance for every second increases on average 9 meters
b) The distance traveled depends on the time taken squared plus one
c) The distance traveled between 2 and 4 seconds is 12 meters
d) The distance traveled in 6 seconds is 37 meters

8. Taking into account that regularity is maintained, to travel a distance of 50

meters the time taken would be
a) 7 seconds
b) more than 8 seconds
c) less than 8 seconds
d) approximately 9 seconds

ANSWER QUESTIONS 9 TO 11 TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE

NEXT SITUATION

Martha writes down in the table the time it takes for a car to travel a certain
distance.

Time (seconds) 1 3 5 7 9
Distance (meters) 2.2 10.2 26.2 50.2 82.2

9. If this regularity holds, from the table it is correct to conclude that:

a) every two seconds the distance is directly proportional to the time
b) There is a directly proportional relationship between time and space
traveled.
c) only every two seconds does the distance traveled change
d) There is an increasing relationship between time and distance traveled

10. Maintaining regularity, it follows that the car has traveled between the
9 and 11 seconds, 40 meters because :
a) the distance for every second increases approximately 8 meters

b) The distance traveled depends on the time taken plus 1.2 meters c) the
distance traveled between 3 and 7 seconds is 40 meters
d) The distance traveled after 11 seconds is 122.2 meters

11. Taking into account that regularity is maintained, to travel a distance of 200
meters the time taken would be:
a) more than 18 seconds
b) less than 15 seconds
c) approximately 16 seconds
d) approximately 17 seconds

12. The result of adding 9 to the square of a positive integer (n) is 34. Regarding the
result of (n-1) 2 we can conclude :
a) The number (n) must be greater than 4
b) the number n can be even or odd
c) the expression (n-1) 2 must necessarily be greater than 20
d) the value of (n-1) 2 is 16

13. Y = 3/4 X + 3 is a linear function that can be considered as the equation that
represents
a) the height of a projectile as a function of time
b) the distance traveled at a fixed speed as a function of time
c) the growth of a population as a function of time
