Prepare Medical Equipment & Supplies

Introduction

Common medical equipment may include oxygen equipment, wheelchairs,

walkers, and crutches, while supplies could include replacement CPAP masks,
nutritional formulas, support braces, diapers and catheter supplies. A healthcare
provider prescribes the medical equipment and supplies necessary for a person’s
care.
Acknowledgement

I would like to express my special thanks of gratitude to my teacher Miss

Thompson for giving me this project, as well as my friends and family who
dedicated there time and energy in order for me to complete my assignment on
time. Last but not least I would like to thank God for the strength and knowledge in
order to complete this assignment.

 Ultrasound

An ultrasound scan uses high-frequency sound waves to make an image of a

person’s internal body structures. Doctors commonly use ultrasound to study a
developing fetus (unborn baby), a person’s abdominal and pelvic organs, muscles
and tendons, or their heart and blood vessels.
 Electrocardiogram

An electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) is a test to record the electrical signals in the

heart. It shows how the heart is beating. Sticky patches called electrodes are placed
on the chest and sometimes on the arms or legs. Wires connect the patches to a
computer, which prints or displays results.
 Pulse Oximeter

The pulse oximeter observes a rapid measurement of oxygen saturation level in

your body without using needles or taking a blood sample. The measured amount
shown on the screen reflects the saturation of your red blood cells with oxygen.
This number gives your doctors and nurses an idea of what your treatment will be.

 Wheel Chair
Wheelchairs provide mobility, postural support and freedom to those who cannot
walk or have difficulty walking, enabling them to move around, participate in
everyday activities and live life on their own terms.

 Nebulizer
A nebulizer is a small machine that turns liquid medicine into a mist that can be
easily inhaled. You sit with the machine and breathe in the medicine through a
connected mouthpiece or facemask. This allows the medicine to enter the lungs
directly. Nebulizers may be used for people with lung disease, including: Asthma.

 Diathermy Machine
The diathermy machine does not apply heat directly to the body. Instead, the waves
generated by the machine allow the body to generate heat from within the targeted
tissue. Diathermy is usually part of a complete physical therapy or rehabilitative
regimen. Frequency and length of treatments vary. Diathermy is a treatment that
provides deep heat to your tissues. It helps relax muscles and joints, reduce
swelling and improve blood flow. Diathermy uses radio and sound waves to warm
up the tissues beneath your skin.

 Forceps
Forceps are nonlocking grasping tools that function as an extension of the thumb
and opposing fingers in the assisting hand to augment the instrument in the
operating hand. Their primary purpose is to grasp, retract, or stabilize tissue.

 CT Scanner
Computed tomography is commonly referred to as a CT scan. A CT scan is a
diagnostic imaging procedure that uses a combination of X-rays and computer
technology to produce images of the inside of the body. It shows detailed images of
any part of the body, including the bones, muscles, fat, organs and blood vessels.

 Incubators
Incubator, an insulated enclosure in which temperature, humidity, and other
environmental conditions can be regulated at levels optimal for growth, hatching,
or reproduction.

 Steri-Strips
Wound closure tape known commonly as Steri-Strips™ are strips of tape put
across an incision or minor cut. They keep the edges of the wound together as it
heals. Steri-Strips are used instead of stitches because they lessen scarring and are
easier to care for.

 Medical Walking Chair

Walkers and rollators are mobility aids designed for people who are are unstable to
walk, have difficulty walking more than a few steps, or are recovering from
surgery and need additional support and stability while walking.

 Ultraviolet Lamp
An ultraviolet (UV) lamp can be added to your existing HVAC system and is
installed in the evaporator coil or ductwork near the coil. It helps keep your system
clean by killing bacteria, mold, and mildew so they are do not become airborne and
circulate throughout your home.

 Scalpel
Scalpel is an essential dermatological tool used “for making skin incisions, tissue
dissections, and a variety of surgical approaches since the onset of ‘modern’
surgery.” Scalpel blades come in different sizes, identified by a blade number, and
each serving a different purpose.
 Sutures
A surgical suture is one of the most common medical devices used by doctors
during surgeries. The suture helps in holding body tissues together after a surgery
or an injury. The application of a suture essentially involves the use of a needle
along with an attached thread.

Glossary
 Pulse – The number of times the heart beats within a certain time
period, usually a minute.
 Tools- A tool is an object that can extend an individual’s ability to
modify features of the surrounding environment or help them
accomplish a particular task.
 Needle- A small slender usually steel instrument designed to carry
sutures when sewing tissues in surgery.
 Injury – An injury is damage to your body.
 Bacteria – Bacteria are microscopic living organisms that have only
one cell.
 Circulate- To move in a circle, circuit, or orbit.
 Blade – A part of a tool or mechanism which is thin and flat with a
tapered edge, used for clearing, wiping, scraping, etc.
 Humidity – Humidity is the amount of water vapor in the air.
 Organs- An organ (from the Latin “organum” meaning an instrument
or tool) is a collection of tissues that structurally form a functional
unit specialized to perform a particular function.
 Instrument - A device or tool used for scientific purposes, including
the study of both natural phenomena and theoretical research
 X-ray- An electromagnetic radiation of an extremely short wavelength
that is able to penetrate various thicknesses of solids and to act on
photographic film as light does.
 Incision- A surgical cut made in skin or flesh.
 Muscle - A body tissue consisting of long cells that can contract and
produce motion.
 Fat- Having too much flabby tissue; corpulent; obese.
 Doctor- A person skilled or specializing in healing arts.
 Stability – The strength to stand or endure.
 Joints- A point where two or more things are connected together.
 Blood- The fluid that circulates in the heart, arteries, capillaries, and
veins of a vertebrate animal carrying nourishment and oxygen to and
bringing away waste products from all parts of the body.
 Asthma – Asthma is a chronic lung disease affecting people of all
ages.
 Body- The physical whole of a living or dead organism.
