Each question given below consists of a statement, followed by two arguments numbered I
and II. You have to decide which of the arguments is a 'strong' argument and which is a
'weak' argument.
Give answer:
• (a) If only argument I is strong
• (b) If only argument II is strong
• (c) If either I or II is strong
• (d) If neither I nor II is strong and
• (e) If both I and II are strong.
21. Statement: Should the health care service be nationalized?
Arguments: I. Yes. It has been done elsewhere also.
II. No. The quality of health care service will deteriorate.
23.Statement: Should election expenses to Central and State Legislatures be met by the
Government?
Arguments:I. Yes. It will put an end to political corruption.
II. No. It is not good in any country.
Now, AD=BC=25km.
So, PD=PA+AD=50 km.
Bus Y travels 35 km upto E.
Therefore, distance between two buses= PQ- (PD+QE)= (150-(50+35))=65 km.
7. Ans: e
Fifth boy from right means
(15-5)+1= 11th boy from left.
According to question
4th boy from the left is facing towards the east. It implies that the boys standing at even
positions from left are facing towards east and those standing at odd positions are facing
towards west. Therefore, fifth boy from the right (11th boy from left) would face towards
west.
8. Ans: b.
In the morning hour the shadow of any object is formed towards west.
According to question, to the left of Vishwanath is the west. Therefore, he was facing
towards north
9. The number of hours from 8:00 p.m. on Thursday to 8:00 a.m. on Monday = 84
hours.
In 84 hours, the clock gained 12 minutes.
But to show the correct time, the clock has to gain 5 minutes.
:. 5/12 *84 = 35 hours.
35 hours from 8:00 p.m. on Thursday is 7:00 a.m. on Saturday.
10. 3960/(360*2) = 5.50
11. 42*6-(42/2) = 252-21 = 231 degree
12. Odd days from March to October : 3 + 2 +3 +2 +3 +3 +2 +3 = 21/7 = 0 . If odd day
is 0 then next month has the same calendar.
13. Exp: 14 x 15 = 14 + 15 = 29 and 29 – 4 = 25.
26 x 42 = 26 + 42 = 68 and 68 – 4 = 64.
Similarly, 73 x 31 = (73 + 31) – 4 = 104 – 4 = 100.
14. Exp: In the first and second statements, the common code word is ‘kew’ and the common
word is
‘she’. So, ‘kew’stands for ‘she’.
In the first and third statements, the common code word is ‘deko’ and the common word
is
‘apples’. So, ‘deko’stands for ‘apples’.
15. a. Exp: PROCESSOR =>
P = 16 and D4 => 4 x 4 = 16 = P
R = 18 and F3 => 6 x 3 = 18 = R
O = 15 and C5 => 3 x 5 = 15 = O and so on.
Hence, PROFESSOR is coded as D4F3C5C1E1S1S1E3C6.
QUADRANT is coded as Q1C7A1B2F3A1B7E4.
b. Exp: WINDOW is coded as W1C3B7B2E3W1.
16. Ans: d.
Brother of Raju’s wife- Raju’s brother-in-law; Son of Manju’s brother is the brother-in-law
of Raju. So Manju’s brother is Raju’s father-in-law ie, Manju is the sister of Raju’s father-in-
law.
17. Ans: c
Only son of her grandfather – her father; man’s brother’s father- man’s father. So,
man’s father is her father ie, She is the man’s sister.
19. Ans: b. Couples A-B; A is the father of C; C’s daughter is E. So, E’s grandmother is B.
20. Ans: a. Mr. Ramu’s mother’s father-in-law’s only son is Ramu’s father. Ramu’s father’s
only daughter is Ramu’s sister. Ramu’s sister’s son is Chetan. Hence, Ramu is uncle of
Chetan.
21. Ans:d
Clearly, going in for something just because others have done it, is not a strong argument.
Also, on the other hand, nationalization of health care service will only promote the service
and not deteriorate it. So none of the arguments holds strong.
22. Ans:b
Clearly, cottage industries need to be promoted to create more job opportunities for rural
people in the villages themselves. The reason that rural people are creative is vague. So, only
argument II holds.
23. Ans:a
Clearly, the policy will end political corruption that is unleashed to extract these amounts.
The second argument is vague. So, only argument I holds.
24. Ans:e
Clearly, sensible ragging makes students broad-minded and well acquainted with each other.
So, argument I is valid. However, sometimes, these young boys and girls are tortures and
humiliated too much in the name of ragging, which makes it an unhealthy practice. So,
argument II also holds strong.
25. Ans:c
The control of population, on one hand, seems to be impossible because of the ever growing
needs and the disconcern of the people but, on the other hand, the control is possible by a
joint effort. So, either of the arguments will hold strong.
