CASTING PROCESS

Casting process - Casting is a traditional manufacturing process. It involves pouring molten material
into a pre-designed mold to create solid objects. This method is fundamental in various industries
and has been practiced for centuries.

- The mold is usually made of materials like sand, metal, or ceramic. The molten material takes
on the shape of the mold cavity and solidifies.
- It finds extensive use in industries like automotive, aerospace, construction, and art, creating
diverse and functional components.

Additional to say - The casting process is a manufacturing method that involves pouring liquid
material, usually metal or plastic, into a mold to solidify and form a desired shape for various
industrial applications.
TYPES OF CASTING PROCESS

Sand casting

- The most common and popular type of casting due to its low cost
and easy to create
- Sand casting allows for smaller batches than permanent mold casting
and at a very reasonable cost. Not only does this method allow
manufacturers to create products at a low cost, but there are other
benefits to sand casting, such as very small-size operations.
- Material that is commonly used: steels, nickel, and titanium.

Die casting
- Metal casting process that involves feeding molten nonferrous alloys into dies under high
pressure and at high speed to rapidly create molded products.
- The main materials used in die casting are alloys of aluminum, magnesium and zinc.

Investment casting
- A pattern is created from wax, which is then dipped into ceramic slurry. This is then heated and
dried, creating a ceramic shell mould for casting. The wax flows out and the molten metal is
poured into the cavity.
- Common material used : stainless, carbon steel and alloy
- Also known as precision casting or lost wax casting. The investment casting process dates
back more than 5,000 years and was used for making art and jewelry over the centuries.

Low pressure die casting

- Introduces metal into the chill mould from below where gas pressure holds the metal in
the die until it solidifies.

High pressure die casting

- Injects molten metal into a metal die under high pressure and high speed, allowing
quicker casting production.
