This procedure covers the chemical cleaning of boiler pressure part, Boiler Internal Piping
(PLTU SOMA 2X3IMW KARIMUN) Coal-fired Power Plant Project
2.0 PURPOSE
The purpose is to clear the impurities from inner surface of the boiler water/steam pipe line,
such as metal debris, oxide, oil, dust, and metal oxide produced in inner surface during
equipment manufacturing and installation, and to ensure the water and steam quality of
boiler water during operation and to apply a foundation to generate protective coating of Fes
Os that can prevent further corrosion of inner surface at inner boiler heating surface.

Citric Acid. Use Ammonia to adjust pH to 3.5 ~ 4.0, keep the temperature 60~700C
for 2 hours. When the ferrous ion is less than 400mg/I this step can end. If the
ferrous ion is more than 400mg/I use demineralized water to replace the rinsing
liquid until the ferrous ion is less than 400mg/1
Passivation: After rinsing use ammonia to adjust the pH up-to 9.0 ~ 10, add 0.2%
sodium nitrite (NaNO2). Keep the temperature at 60~700C for 4-6 hours.
Discharge the passivation liquor to unit drainage pit. Open manholes of drum to

When the interval is more than 20 days between finishing the chemical cleaning,
and blowing out, following corrosion prevention measures to be taken:
When freezing is not a problem fill the boiler with demineralized water containing
10 ppm of ammonia and 100 ppm of hydrazine, the pH of the solution should be
approximately 9 ~ 10.
When freezing is a problem, the water is drainable circuits can be displaced with
nitrogen and the unit lay-up under 0.3 ~ 0.5 bar nitrogen pressure. Auxiliary heat
‘may be applied to keep the non — drainable sections from freezing

The lighting is enough in field.
Make barricade from color tape around the boiler, pump room and cleaning tank,
and the alarming signs with notable writing of “NO SMOKING AND FIRE” “NO
ADMITTANCE EXCEPT ON BUSSINUSE” “DANGEROUS ACID LIQUID “
etc.
Remove all unnecessary goods remained near the system and in the access or stair
after the completion of installation to guarantee unblocks access.
The personnel contacting acid and ammonia should be instructed in advand and
wear acid resistant clothes with rubber hood, rubber shoes, rubber glove, protective
glass, respirator and protective mask.
All chemicals are qualified subject to check; the inhibitor is qualified subject to
small scale test in field.
Eye washer/Safety shower are prepared near the job site.
The operation measures of satisfying alkali boiling-out process requirements have
been mate.
There should have doctors or the medical team with necessary goods and rescuing
person on duty in field for first aid treatment.
‘There no open fire and strictly forbidden during acid cleaning.
