No Probing Qs

1 <Greet the students and ask about their day>

Ask: Do you know what are the benefits of staying healthy?

<Wait for students to respond >

Tutor Points:
● Yes! You can be energetic when you are healthy. You can
play, study, eat your favorite food and whatnot!
● That’s why they say “Health is wealth”. We are always
concerned about our health. But during/after (Please use the
term depending on the time this session is taken) covid-19
scenario, we are more concerned about our health.
● During COVID-19, to ensure health, and to help people,
few organizations take a step forward by sending volunteers
to our homes.
● Not only volunteers from such organizations, but individual
scouts also visit our homes and check on our health.
● Even during the spread of diseases like malaria, and dengue
in some villages, these volunteers and scouts help people.
● One of such scouts is our friend: Alex, who has visited the
houses in a village to check people’s health and help them out
with cures and procedures and he found that Amit has malaria.
• Okay, So as we have met Alex in the last chapter and we know
that Alex has more doubts.

Connect:
• Alright! Now let’s get back to Alex.
● Are you all excited?
● Let’s follow Alex and find out what he is up to.

2 Narration:
● Look, there are a lot of mosquitoes entering through the
window.
● Alex is worried as mosquitoes are the main culprit.

Connect:
● Now Alex wants to stop these mosquitoes, so he goes out to
find out where they are coming from.
● Let's follow Alex and see what he finds.
3 Narration:
● Alex is outside Amit's house and notices something.
Tutor Points:
● He sees a lot of things and immediately understands why
Amit got malaria.
Connect:
● But how did Alex know this was the reason for malaria?
● Let’s learn from our master tutor.

1. Mosquitoes lay their eggs in stagnant water.
2. Baby mosquitoes are called larvae.
3. To prevent the spread of mosquitoes, keep the surroundings dry
and clean.
4. We can also prevent this by filling the pits, using empty cans
as flower pots, and oil drums need to be tightly shut.
5. Use coconut shells to make colorful bowls.
6. Introduce larvae eating fishes.

Connect:
● That was so informative.
● Let’s quickly recall the concepts we learned in this.

5 Tutor point:
<Dictate and ask students to take notes in their notebook>
<Underline the highlighted keywords while dictating>

● Mosquitoes lay their eggs in stagnant water.

● Water gets stagnated in places like open garbage bins, pits,
coconut shells, and tires.
● Look!
<Point to the thread-like structures in pond and coconut shells>
● Can you see these small threads like structures? They are
larvae.
● Mosquito eggs grow into these larvae. They are like baby
mosquitoes.

Connect:
● So, this is how malaria spreads.
● Okay, tell me how we can stop mosquitoes from growing in
these places?
<Interact>
● Alright! Let me tell you.
6 Tutor point:
<Dictate and ask students to take notes in their notebook>
<Underline the highlighted keywords while dictating>
● We can prevent the spread of malaria by preventing the
growth of mosquitoes.
● We can prevent mosquitoes by doing the following:
1) Keeping the surroundings clean and dry.
2) Don't keep things that stagnate in them, like tires.
3) Introduce larvae eating fishes in ponds.
4) Cover the open pits with soil.
● Apart from this, adding kerosene or oil to stagnant water will
kill the mosquito larvae.
Connect:
● Let's solve some questions.

Which of the following can help in the prevention of malaria?
Knowledge Points/Learning evidence:
● Prevention of malaria

11 Tutor point:
<Read the question>
<wait for responses>
Answer: 1 and 3
<Ask students to note down question numbers and solutions in their
notes>
● Keeping the surroundings clean will not attract mosquitoes
and even if they come around, keeping it dry will stop them
from breeding. Because mosquitoes lay their eggs in water.
● In ponds, larvae eating fishes will eat the larvae. Thus this will
help in the prevention of mosquito growth.
● Since malaria is spread by mosquitoes. By preventing
mosquito growth, we can prevent malaria.

Connect:
● It is important to prevent mosquitoes because they not only
cause malaria but a lot of other diseases as well.
● Let's see what diseases are caused by mosquitoes.

12 Tutor points:
Mosquitoes are vectors that cause a lot of diseases. Some of them are

The rash is the main symptom of this disease.
● Chikungunya: Usually begins 3-7 days after an infected
mosquito bite. Joint pain is the main symptom of this disease.
● Yellow fever: It is spread by an infected mosquito bite. Eye
pain is the main symptom of this disease.

Connect:
● Let's get back to Alex and see what else he found.

13 Tutor point:
● Here Alex finds some green slimy structures near the water.
<Encircle the green-colored thing present at the edges of the pond>

● He is wondering what these things are.

Connect:
● Have you ever seen such green slimy patches near the water?
<interact>
● Let's see what they are.

14 Tutor point:
● Those green slimy structures are called algae. They can be
found in and around the water bodies such as ponds, rivers,
oceans, etc.
● They appear like plants but they are not plants. They lack
roots, stems, leaves, fruits, etc. which are found in plants.

Connect:
● What other things can we find in water?
<interact>
● Let me show you.

15 Tutor point:
● Apart from algae, we can find many other living organisms in
water right?
● Can you name some of them?
<Interact and collect responses from students>
● Let us write the names of things found in water.
1) Fishes
