REFERENCE: Airbus ISI Article No. 00.00.00367 dated 9th March 2022
Airbus Tech Request No. 80937466/003 dated 30th Aug 2021
Airbus emails dated 13th Dec. 2021 and 15th March 2022
BACKGROUND:
Rev. 05 is issued to update the extended shelf-life to 4 years in accordance with Airbus ISI
Article No. 00.00.00367 dated 9th March 2022.
Airbus acknowledges the handling difficulties of items affected by a shelf life driven by adhesive
materials (glue on tape, placards, Teflon stripes, foam pads etc.…). Therefore, Airbus has
reviewed its handling policy of adhesive materials. Airbus will continue to test adhesive materials
beyond the prescribed limits so that it can be safely installed on the aircraft.
This Technical Notice aims at describing the new shelf-life policy and will be updated, should
Airbus decide to extend the new shelf-life policy to other adhesive materials.
This Technical Notice DOES NOT apply to placards and labels without adhesive. Indeed, those
have unlimited shelf life.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
The shelf life of the following items, installed inside the aircraft, is extended to 4 years
from the ‘date of manufacturing’ recorded on the delivery documentation:
Placards and labels
Adhesive tape (one sided and double sided).
Adhesive foils.
Other materials to be installed with adhesive materials (foam pads, Velcro tapes, Teflon
stipes, NTF plates, carpets….)
Any other shelf-life information given by the manufacturer or still existing in other documents
delivered with the goods is replaced by the extended warranty provided and can be disregarded.
The above policy also applies to adhesive materials procured from Vendor SBs, if covered by
Airbus approved design data (e.g. SBs).
The above policy DOES NOT apply to placards, stencils, and foils to be applied on the
aircraft exterior. To identify exterior markings and placards non eligible, the following method
may be used:
In the IPC, ATA Chapter 11, find the subchapter corresponding to the marking/placard.
If the first digit of the subchapter is 1 or 2 then the extended shelf life does not apply (see
below example).
