FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, OWERRI, IMO STATE
SCHOOL OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY
DEPARTMENT OF SOFTWARE ENGINEERING
UNDERGRADUATE PROJECT FORMAT
Preamble
✓ The project work for the student should be done individually or in a team where the
cost of the project is relatively high.
✓ Group projects must be approved by the department before commencement.
✓ Every project must have a strong technical Software Engineering presence or its
related components. The Software Engineering or its components could be applied to
develop a solution for an existing problem, etc.
Formatting your project
The project is written in the following format:
1. The font type is Times New Roman
2. Font size for the main body of the work is 12pts while font size for chapter
headings is14pts
3. Maintain 1.5 spacing for the entire work.
4. All specific objectives must be numbered (e.g., 1, 2….; a, b., i., ii., ….)
5. Center all chapter headings and chapter numbers. All other subheadings should be
left-justified
6. Preliminary pages should be numbered using Roman numerals with no numbering
appearing on the cover page which is assumed to be page one. (see below for the
format for preliminary pages)
7. All preliminary page headings should maintain a font size of 14pts and centred
8. The project should be block paragraphed
9. For all subheadings, maintain first letter capital letters format
10. All headings should be bold
11. Numbering should follow the following standard (after second level numbering
switch to letters or Roman numerals)
12. Figure labelling should follow the following format: Figure 1.1, Figure 1.2, etc for
chapter one and Figure 2.1, Figure 2.2 for chapter two in that order. Figure labelling
should be below the figure and centred along with the figure.
13. The referencing style is APA version 6 and above.

Figure 1.1: DevOps Framework (Power, 2021)
14. Table labelling should follow the format: Table 1.1, Table 1.2, etc for chapter one and
Table 2.1, Table 2.2 for chapter two in that order. Table labelling should be above the
table and left-justifies. All tables should be duly referenced below the table and the
sources right-justified. The table should be single spaced and font size 10pt

THE BODY OF THE REPORT
CHAPTER ONE (14pt centered, all capital letters)
INTRODUCTION (14pt centered, all capital letters)
1.1 Background to the Study (12pt, and first letter capital)
The background of the work is critical and should clearly present the whole essence of
the research, clearly providing insight to the topic.
1.2 Statement of Problem
1.3 Objectives of the Study
1.4 Research Questions (Optional)
1.5 Scope of the Study
1.6 Limitations of the Study
1.7 Significance of the Study
1.8 Definition of terms
CHAPTER TWO
LITERATURE REVIEW
(Each chapter starts on a fresh page)
2.1 Conceptual Framework
The review of related literature should start with Conceptual Framework as 2.1. Students
shall discuss historical and developmental trends in the area of study and general concepts
related to the work. It is advisable to present the student’s concept of the study with a
schematic diagram.
Amongst other things the student may wish to discuss in this chapter, the student shall
identify and discuss the Theoretical Framework of the Study (this comprises concepts,
theories, principles or models that inspired the study), as well as the Empirical Framework
of the Study (Gaps from reviewed related literatures shall form the last subsection). These
should form the section headings and assigned section numbers accordingly:
2.2 Theoretical Framework
2.3 Empirical Framework
2.4 Summary of Literature Review
4
CHAPTER THREE
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
3.1 Methodology Adopted
The student identifies the methodology adopted for the study. In addition, the student should
also discuss the methodology (e.g., SSADM, OOADM, Prototyping, Agile, etc ), stating what
the methodology is all about, why the methodology was chosen, the steps involved in the
methodology, and the benefits the methodology has over other highlighted methodologies).
Specific methods used should be discussed
CHAPTER FOUR
SYSTEM DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION
This section includes all design diagrams, use cases, database designs, flow chats, etc.
Design outputsand testing processes are also captured here. The system documentation
should be captured here.
CHAPTER FIVE
SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
5.1 Summary of Findings
5.2 Conclusions
5.3 Recommendations
5.4 Contribution to knowledge
5.5 Future Work
