 To learn the sources of bio potentials and the measurement process.


 To determine the various clinical parameters of the human body
 To explain the assistive devices that enhances the overall well being
 To explain the operation of physiotherapy and electrotherapy equipments
 To Explore the recent trends and developments in biomedical field

PREREQUISITE

 Knowledge on Human body structure and Electronic circuits.

UNIT I ELECTRO-PHYSIOLOGY AND BIO-POTENTIAL RECORDING 9


Source of Bio electric potentials, Bio -potential electrodes, biological amplifiers, ECG, EEG,
EMG, PCG, typical waveforms and signal characteristics

UNIT II BIO-CHEMICAL AND NON ELECTRICAL PARAMETERS MEASUREMENT 9


pH, PO2, PCO2, Colorimeter, Autoanalyser ,Blood flow meter, Cardiac output, respiratory,
blood pressure, temperature and pulse measurement, Blood Cell Counters.

UNIT III HUMAN ASSIST DEVICES AND IMAGING 9

Cardiac pacemakers, DC Defibrillator, Dialyser, Heart lung machine , Ventilators, Computer


tomography ,Magnetic Resonance Imaging Systems(MRI).

UNIT IV PHYSIOTHERAPY AND ELECTROTHERAPY EQUIPMENTS 9


Tissue response -Short ware diathermy - Microwave diathermy - Ultrasonic therapy Unit -
Electrotherapy - FES, TENS - Bladder stimulator - Lithotripter system - Extra corporeal Shock
