Khasa of khasiya Malla of Karnali….
There were two kind of Malla were ruling over Nepal, Newar Mallas of
ktm valley and other khasa malla of karnali basin. But one thing is very
clear that these khasa Mallas of Karnali basin were previously the
inhabitant of East Asia and came to enter into Nepal through North
Western side of Himalaya range.Their settlement in Nepal started in
between 5th century BC to 3rd century BC only due to their race Khasa
and due to their settlement it began to named Khasa Kingdom.
The 7th century AD the Khasa were inhabiting in the surrounding areas
of Himalayas spreading from Kashmir to the central Nepal. Two
dynasties were rulling in this areas,
1. Pal dynasty at purang which comprised Jumla, Dullu, to Surkheth
and
2. Mallas were rulling over the areas of Tibet at Guge controlling
over the western tibet beyond the Himalayas including Mansarobar
Kailash Parbat to the Takla Kot And Khochiyari Malla. Very little
is known about the Kings who rulled over the vast Kingdom in the
early days. Two kirti Dullu stone pillar of Prithvi Malla(1338 -
1358AD) gives this name of his ancestors.According to the Dullu
Stone Pillar inscriptions they belong to the Solar dynasty. Aditya
Bansha Bhawadadi Pal and the founder of this Kingdom was Nag
Raj.
As we described above that previously there were two different
dynasty that is Pal and Malla. But later on at this period of Punya
Malla that is King of Purang from Pal dynasty married the
daughter of Pratap Malla from Malla dynasty who was male heir
less and both the Purang and Guge Kingdom were unified.
As it is described in the Dullu Stone Pillar inscriptions about to
1150 AD. Nag Raj had established the Khasa Kingdom.Although
Nag Raj had established a large territories area of his Kingdom his
ancestors extended its area. In its limelight period they extended its
area from Kashmir to Kathmandu.
Description of Ripu Malla (1313)of Kapilvastu Niglihawa Pillar
inscriptions describes that his Kingdom covering the area from
Hosiyarpur (Purang) in west to Palpa Nepal in east and from Kedar
in north west and Kapilvastu in South.
The well Khasa rulers who succeded Nag Raj were Chapa,
Chapila, Krakauchula.
Krakauchula had made the conquest of Kumar and Garwal. The
next well Khasa ruler was Ashoka Challa, where name is found in
a stone pillar of BodhGaya. The first King to avoid this name of
Challa and replacing it as Malla was Sitari Malla, who had invaded
Ktm upto their time in 1287-1288. When Amruta Malla was
rulling over Kathmandu.
Then there causes this name of Ripu Malla(1313)nephew of Sitari
Malla attended on Ktm valley at the period of Jaya Rudra Malla.
After then there causes the name of Aditya Malla (1328)son of
Sitari Malla. He had also attacked the Ktm Valley. Thus , there
causes the name of Kalyan Malla and Pratap Malla.
Pratap Malla was made heir issue less Punya Malla although he
was from Pal dynasty married the daughter of Pratap Malla and
accepted the title of Malla who was the King of Purang and in this
way both dynasty merged in one. Punya Malla rulled from 1328 to
1337 AD.
After Punya Malla his son Prithvi Malla (1338 -1358)ruled.
