They asked me to mention 5 subjects but

their questions were from every domain of Electrical engineering. My answer for subjects - Machines,
Power Systems, Power Electronics, Network, Control Systems. Now the saga of Interview began and
believe me, it was quite a rapid-fire.

Draw the phasor which can show the effect of change in excitation in change of generator current for
constant load. (What they actually said was this - “Kuchh pahsor se Excitaion of generator ka change
dikha sakte hein kya aap.”)

Elaborate the same phasor in details.

Draw the capability curve of synchronous Machine and elaborate each and every point of specifications.

Use of core and shell type transformers in distribution systems and differences between them.

What are soft magnetic materials?

Draw the hysteresis curve for soft and hard magnetic material.

Effect of increasing air gap in Induction motor.

What are ratings of a circuit breaker.

What changes will you mention in the audit of a substation if a 20 MVA transformer is replaced by a 50
MVA transformer? It was quite a question, our discussion went around for at least 10 to 15 minutes. It
was about how to change the ratings of relay, CT, PT, and circuit breaker (C.B.).

Breaking and making capacity of C.B.

What is the physical significance of breaking and making capacity in terms of duty ratio and auto
reclosing of C.B. during the fault. (Believe me, their way of asking questions was very confusing. What I
am writing here is quite simplified version of that.)

Derive the expression for TRV and RRRV.

Mention the experiments you have performed in your Power Electronics lab and in your measurements
lab. (A 15 minute discussion)

Draw the diagram of IGBT and it’s drain and transfer characteristics

Explain the working of an IGBT.

Explain Precision, Accuracy, Resolution, and Sensitivity.

What is Hall Effect and its details?

How the data is received in Load dispatch center from the filed devices, he asked me to draw the
complete block diagram for this.

How SCADA and DCS are different to each other.

How the operator in the dispatch center control the filed equipment through DCS? It was the last
question because I could not answer this one.

After that, they asked me to send the next candidate in. My interview went around for 45–50 minutes.

3. There were 7 panel members all man, including one chairperson. After entering I greeted all.
Chairperson asked me to give my documents file to one of panel member. After that they start asking
questions. My interview was in both hindi and English language.

We will not going to ask from subject which you mention in BARC.( Then other member say there is

Chairperson told me to remove power electronics( other member say from morning onward we are
asking power electronics only) and asked me to add control system.

Before I left interview room chairperson asked me if you get joining in kudankulam( in Tamilnadu) are

I answered all the questions with proper explanation.

Try to answer in logical way bcz they only want to hear practical answer. All Panel members were very
good.

Result- got medical slip.

3. BARC:

My BARC INTERVIEW was scheduled on 15 may 2019 in morning slot. After document verification, I got
slip and my interview started at 11:45 AM.

Panel consists six members including one chairperson.

I wished all of them and they start directly with technical question without introduction.

1..Calculate voltage drop between point A and C.

2. Calculate power factor of above system?

3. How to improve power factor?

4. If in the above system at bus B lagging load connect and at bus C leading load connect then what are
the changes required in PF compensation system?

5. Voltage profile can maintain constant by changing the excitation of generator then why we preferred
shunt capacitors?

6. Why resistance is assumed Zero in transmission line calculation?

7. In power flow equation if we make reactance zero then transmitted power is infinite. Is it possible?.
They asked few more questions on this.

This subjects will decide Selection or Rejection. So prepare them with proper planning, definitions and

Anushaktinagar. The first step is they will provide some forms to fill and one among that is the
preference for which training school you want if you are selected. After filling them document
verification is done and will give you the interview token, that will be you pass at security gates and
number in that corresponds to interviewing order, so if you want to get over with quickly you have to do
all those form filling and documentation fast otherwise you could be the last one on that day.
