Temple

The Mahabodhi Temple is a UNESCO

World Heritage Site. An ancient site which
has been rebuilt and restored Buddhist
temple in Bodh Gaya, Bihar. This is the
loca on where the Buddha is said to have
a ained enlightenment. Bodh Gaya is 15
km from Gaya and is about 96 km from
Patna. The site now contains a descendant
of the Bodhi Tree under which Buddha
gained enlightenment, and has been a
major pilgrimage des na on of Buddhists
for well over two thousand years.

The Great Buddha statue (Daibutsu) is one of the popular stops on the Buddhist pilgrimage and tourist routes in Bodh Gaya, Bihar. The statue is

located in a garden at the end of Temple Street and is surrounded by smaller sculptures of Buddha's ten principal disciples, five on each side.

 Sujata Stupa
Bakraur, Bodhgaya, Gaya

Sujata Stupa or Sujata Garh, is a Buddhist stupa located in the village of Senanigrama (Bakraur) east of Bodh Gaya. It lies directly across the
Phalgu River from the town of Bodh Gaya. It is a walk of about 20 minutes, from Bodh Gaya to Sujata Stupa. It was ini ally built in the 2nd
century BCE as confirmed by finds of Dark Grey polished wares and a punch-marked coin in the monastery nearby. The stupa was dedicated to
the milkmaid Sujata, from the village of Bakraur, who is said to have fed Gautama Buddha milk and rice at this spot as he was si ng under a
Banyan tree, thereby ending his seven years of fas ng and asce cism, and allowing him to a ain illumina on through the Middle Path.

Akshay Vat meaning is everlas ng, indestructable "Banyan Tree". It is very important place due to the fact that Pind Daanis done near this tree.
Pinda Daan starts from Falgu River and finishes at Akshay Vat. This tree got a boom from Sita, tha t can't die. That's the reason why it is called
Akshayvat. According to VedPuran, Lord Krishna stays under its shadow, when the whole world will drown in to the water, this tree will not die,

Mangla Gauri Mandir
Gaya

Mangla Gauri temple is a Shak Peetham in

Gaya, Bihar. It has been men oned in
Padma Purana, Vayu Purana and Agni
Purana and Devi Bhagvata Purana and
Markandeya Puranaas well as in other
scriptures and tantric works. This temple is
among the eighteen maha shak peeth. The
present temple dates back to the 15th
century. The shrine is dedicated to Sa or
the Mother Goddess in the predominantly
Vaishnavite pilgrimage center of Gaya.
Mangalagauri is worshiped as the Goddess
of benevolence. This temple cons tutes an
Upa-Shak Peeth — where it is believed
that a part of the body of Sa fell according
to mythology. The temple is facing east and
is built on top of the Mangalagauri hill. A
flight of steps and a motorable road lead to
it. The sanctum houses the symbol of the
Goddesst has some finely carved ancient
relief sculptures. There are two minor
shrines dedicated to Shiva and images of
Mahishasura Mardini, Durga, and Dakshina
Kali.

 Vishnupad Mandir
Gaya Jee, Vishnupad, Gaya

Vishnupad Temple is an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu in Gaya. It is located on the banks of Phalgu river. The temple is believed
to be built upon the site where Vishnu had purportedly killed the demon Gayasura or pinned him underground. The temple features a 40-cm
footprint purported to be of Lord Vishnu incised into a block of basalt, known as Dharmasila which was retained when the deity stepped on
Gayasura's chest before pinning him underground. Atop the structure is a 50-kilo gold flag, donated by a devotee, Gayapal Panda Bal Govind
Sen. The Vishnupad temple is the center for Shradha rites for Hindus in Gaya. The legendary saints Madhvacharya, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu,
Vallabhacharya have visited this shrine.

Gaya

The caves in Dungeshwari Hills are said to have protected Lord Buddha before he descended to Bodhgaya. Before descending to the sacred
town of Bodhgaya, it is believed that this is the same cave, which protected Lord Buddha for six years, before he travelled to Bodh Gaya for
a aining enlightenment. These caves now house several temples which are widely visited by pilgrims who follow the trail of Lord Buddha's
journey.
Dungeshwari Hills are located at a distance of about 12-15 kms from Gaya, along the Falgu river. Chinese pilgrim Hiuen Tsang has men oned
these hills in his travelogue. The caves might lack visual appeal but offer a surreal experience for those who let the transcendental energy take
over their conscience. One of the cave temples is dedicated to the Hindu goddess, Dungeshwari.

Opposite of Vishnupad Temple, Gaya

Situated on the opposite side of Vishnupad temple in Gaya is Sita Kund. Sita Kund is an invaluable heritage from a cultural point of view. Sita
Kund is associated with the Ramayana period, and it is believed that Sita Mata donated the body of her father-in-law, Dashrath here. Sita Kund is
a small temple situated on the other bank of the river Falgu, just opposite the Vishnupad temple.
Another legend has it that Sita Mata took a bath in this pool while going to exile for 14 years along with Rama and Lakshmana and hence the
name Sita Kund. It is a witness to many cultural developments that took place in the past and even today people are carrying forward the same
custom as a tradi on.

Near the ruins of Nalanda University is a modern temple named the Black Buddha temple (termed by locals as the Telia Bhairav, "tel" refers to
use of oil as a protec ve coa ng). It has emerged near Temple 14 which has an ancient large black Buddha image in Bhumisparsha Mudra.

Jain temple, Kundalpur is a complex of six Jain temples located in Kundalpur village near Nalanda, Bihar. Kundalpur is one of the most important
Jain pilgrimages in Bihar. Kundalpur was an ancient capital city ruled by the Licchavi. Kundalpur is believed to be the birthplace of Mahavira, the
24th Tirthankara of Jainism. This place is also believed to birthplace of four of the eleven Ganadhara of Mahavira, including Gautama Swami. The
new temple complex, located 1 kilometre from the ancient temple, consists of five temples. The temple is constructed using stones from
Jaisalmer housing idols of Mahavira, Rishabhanatha and Gautama Swami. In Kundalpur temple complex, a total of 72 idols of Tirthankaras are

 Hiuen Tsang Memorial Hall
Nalanda

Hiuen Tsang, was a 7th-century Chinese Buddhist monk, scholar, traveler, and translator. He is known for his contribu ons to Chinese Buddhism.
Further he is also known for the travelogue of his journey to India in 629–645 CE, his efforts to bring over 657 Indian texts to China, and his
transla ons of some of these texts. Xuanzang Memorial in Nalanda is the place where Xuanzang/ Hiuen Tsang ended his long pilgrimage in the
pursuit of true understanding of Buddhism. The construc on of the Memorial was ini ated in 1957 jointly by the first Prime Minister of India,
and the first Premier of China.

The Jal Mandir or Water Temple is situated in Pawapuri, which means a town without sins. It is a major pilgrimage des na on for Jains and the
temple is dedicated to Mahavira, the 24th Tirthankara, which marks the place of his crema on. Mahavira a ained Nirvana (death) in Pawapuri
in 527 BC. The temple was originally built by King Nandivardhan, elder brother of Mahavira, within the pond which is filled with red coloured
lotus flowers. It is one of the five main temples in Pawpuri, where the "Charan Paduka" or foot impression of Mahavira is deified.

 Ruins of Nalanda University
Nalanda

Nalanda was a renowned mahavihara (Buddhist monas c university) in ancient Magadha (modern-day Bihar). Considered by historians to be
the world's first residen al university and among the greatest centers of learning in the ancient world, it was located near the city of Rajagriha
(now Rajgir) and about 90 kilometres southeast of Pataliputra (now Patna). Opera ng from 427 un l 1197 CE, Nalanda played a vital role in
promo ng the patronage of arts and academics during the 5th and 6th century CE, a period that has since been described as the "Golden Age of
India" by scholars.
For about 750 years, its faculty included some of the most revered scholars of Mahayana Buddhism. Nalanda Mahavihara taught six major
Buddhist schools and philosophies such as Yogachara and Sarvas vada as well as subjects such as grammar, medicine, logic and mathema cs.

 Kumhrar Park
Kumhrar, Patna

Kumhrar is the area of Patna where remains of the ancient city of Pataliputra were excavated by the Archaeological Survey of India.
Archaeological remains of the Mauryan period (322–185 BCE) have been discovered here, this includes the ruins of a hypostyle 80-pillared hall.
The excava on finding here dates back to 600 BCE, and marks the ancient capital of Ajatsatru, Chandragupta and Ashoka, and collec vely the
relics range from four con nuous periods from 600 BCE to 600 CE.
In Kumhrar there is one pillar of polished stone, and a very large number of fragments. The excavators were able to trace 72 'pits' of ash and
rubble on the site which marked the posi on in which other pillars must once have stood.

Sheetla Mandir

Agam Kuan is an ancient well and archaeological site in Patna, India. It dates back to the period of Mauryan emperor, Ashoka. Circular in shape,
the well is lined with brick in the upper 13 metres (43 ) and contains wooden rings in the remaining 19 metres (62 ).
Shitala Devi temple where the folk deity statue of Shitala Devi is located, inside this temple, the pindas of the Saptamatrikas (the seven mother
goddesses) are worshipped. The temple is widely revered for its belief in curing smallpox and chicken pox.

 Golghar
Gandhi Maidan, Patna

The Golghar is a large granary located on the west of the Gandhi Maidan in Patna. Golghar in Patna was intended to be just the first of a series of
huge grain stores, in the end, however, no others were ever built. The granary was "part of a general plan for the perpetual preven on of famine
in these provinces". The beehive - shaped structure was designed by John Gars n of the Bengal Engineers, part of the East India Company's
Bengal Army. Its construc on was completed on 20 July 1786. Golghar building has a height of 29 meters and is pillar-less with a wall of
thickness of 3.6 m at the base. It has 145-step spiral stairway. The spiral staircase was designed to facilitate the passage of workers to load and
unload grain in the granary. Grain-bags were delivered through a hole at the top, and workers descended the other stairs. The top of the Golghar
presents a panoramic view of the city and the Ganges.

Bihar Museum is located in Patna. It was planned as a history museum for the state of Bihar, on Bailey Road, Patna. The children's museum', the
main entrance area, and an orienta on theatre were opened to the public ini ally. Later, remaining galleries were also opened. More than 100
ar facts were transferred here from Patna Museum. The 2300 year old Didarganj Yakshi is among the highlight exhibits in the Bihar Museum.
Didarganj Yakshi with fly-whisk (chauri) held in the right hand whereas the le hand is broken, is one of the finest sandstone statues in the
world.
The museum is spread over 5.6 hectares, having 24,000 square meters of built area. The exhibi ons in the museum has nine permanent
galleries. Ar facts from ancient India to 1764 are on display in Bihar Museum's permanent gallery, while those of the post-1764 period are on
display at Patna Museum.

Buddha Smri Park is an urban park located in Patna, India. This park has been developed to commemorate the 2554th birth anniversary of
Buddha. This park was inaugurated by the 14th Dalai Lama and he planted two saplings of the sacred Bodhi tree; one which was brought from
Bodh Gaya and the other from Anuradhapura in Sri Lanka. A branch of the original Mahabodhi tree at Bodh Gaya is believed to have been taken
to Anuradhapura in Sri Lanka by Emperor Ashoka's son Mahendra. The central a rac on of this park is the stupa, known as Patliputra Karuna
Stupa, 200 feet high, situated in the middle of the park. This 22 acre park located in the heart of city houses the pot containing holy ashes of
Buddha inside the main stupa. The park has a museum, where Buddhist relics from Japan, Myanmar, South Korea, Sri Lanka and Thailand have
been installed.

Patna Zoo is located in Patna. The park is Patna's most frequented picnic spot. The park was first established as a botanical garden in 1969. Since
1973, this park has been a biological park, combining a botanical garden with a zoo. The zoo is currently home to over 800 animals of about 110
species, including ger, leopard, clouded leopard, hippopotamus, crocodile, elephants, Himalayan black bear, jackal, black bucks, spo ed deer,

J.P. Ganga Path (Ganga Pathway) is

an expressway along the Ganga
river in Patna, Bihar. It is a 20.5-
kilometre-long road built between
Digha and Deedarganj in Patna. The
second phase of the expressway
would extend by 18 kms upto
Fatuah. The Ganga Path is 6.5 km at-
grade level and 14 km elevated.

Ganga Path project connects Digha

to Kacchi Dargah along the river
Ganges of which the first phase
upto PMCH has been opened for
traffic.

Patna

Rajdhani Va ka, be er known as Eco Park, is a park located in Patna. This park, an ini a ve of the Department of Environment and Forest, Bihar
has 1,445 metres of pathway, a children's corner and 1,191 metre jogging track. It has been developed to ease the load of Patna Zoo. The park is
spread over 9.18 hectares of land which includes two lakes.
The park is full of green areas with more than 3,000 varie es of plants and has two large sec ons. The first sec on has a children corner, food
court, and several fountains. The second part has theme parks like Rashi Van, Guru Va ka, Panchwa and Kewli Van. Addi onally, the park hosts

Vaishali

Buddha Relic Stupa, enshrining one of the eight parts of the mortal remains of Lord Buddha a er he a ained Mahaparinirvana, is one of the
most revered sites for Buddhists. A protected Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) site is located around 55km northwest of Patna in Vaishali
district. The Buddha Relic Stupa was built by Lichhavis as a mud-stupa in the 5th century BC. The relic casket excavated from the core of the
stupa contained the holy ashes of Lord Buddha mixed with earth, a piece of conch, pieces of beads, a thin golden leaf and a copper punch-
marked coin.

 Ashok Stambh

Kolhua is a famous Buddhist excava on site situated approximately 65 km North-West of Patna. The excava ons have revealed the famous
Ashokan Pillar having a statue of lion on the top. Excava ons also revealed, many other ar cles related to Buddhism. Emperor Ashoka built “
The Lion Pillar “ at Kolhua. It is made of a highly polished single piece of red sandstone, surmounted by a bell shaped capital, 18.3 m high. A life-
size figure of a lion is placed on top of the pillar. There is a small tank here known as Ramkund. This pillar beside a brick stupa at Kolhua
commemorates Buddha's last sermon.

 Kesaria Stupa

The original Kesariya stupa probably dates to the me of Ashoka (circa 250 BCE), as the remains of a capital of a Pillar of Ashoka were discovered
there. The stupa mound may even have been inaugurated during the Buddha's me, as it corresponds in many respects to the descrip on of the
stupa erected by the Licchavis of Vaishali to house the alms bowl the Buddha had given them.
The current stupa dates to the Gupta Dynasty between 200 AD and 750 AD, and may have been associated with the 4th century ruler Raja
Chakravar . The local people call this stupa "Devala", meaning "house of god". Kesaria Stupa is considered to be the largest stupa in the world.

Vikramashila was one of the three most important Buddhist monasteries in India during the Pala Empire, along with Nalanda and Odantapuri.

 Tutla Bhawani Waterfall

Tutla Bhawani is located nearby Tilauthu and approximately 20 Km south west from Dehri-on-Sone. Tutrahi is about 8 km south-west of Tilauthu
in the valley of the hill. This is the most picturesque place in Rohtas district. Here, between two high hills on the north-west and south-east side,
about 1 mile long and a valley full of greenery, in front of the waterfall and the water of the Kachuar river flowing through the valley, presents a
wonderful view.
There is a pla orm inside the waterfall on its right (south) side at a slight height. There is a statue of Maa Jagaddhatri Mahishmardini Durga on
the pla orm. In recent mes, this site has been developed as an eco-tourism site by the Forest Department. All tourist facili es including road,

 Shergarh Fort
Rohtas

Shergarh Fort is a ruined fort in Malhipur, Chenari block of Sasaram, it is well connected from Kudra and as well from Sasaram, Bihar. It is a hill
fort on a Kaimur plateau about 800 feet in height and was for fied by Emperor Sher Shah Suri. The fort is in dense forest, making access difficult
from the bo om of the plateau. The fort lies on the banks of the Durgava River.
The fort was built by Emperor Sher Shah Suri. In the 16th century the fort was known as Bhurkuda Qila. The area of the fort is nearly 16 km2. Its
main entrance originally had eight small domes but now there are only five. One kilometre from the main entrance is a lake called Rani Pokhra
(Queen's Pond), and on an adjacent hill is an underground fort.

 Rohtasgath Fort

Rohtasgarh Fort is situated on the upper course of the river Son, and takes around two hours from Sasaram to reach the foot of the hill over
which the Rohtas fort is situated. A gate with a cupola can be seen there, which is the first of many gates provided for well-guarded entrances to
the fort.
Rohtasgarh Fort is one of the largest fort in world. It is spread in 42Sqkm. with 83 gates and network of many underground places and tunnels.
The main gate is known as the Hathiya Pol or the Elephant Gate, named a er the number of figures of the elephants. Many structures like Aina
Mahal, Jamia Masjid and Habsh Khan's mausoleum, Ganesh Temple, Rohtasan Temple and Devi Temple. The fort remains remarkably intact and
was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. UNESCO called it an excep onal example of the Muslim military architecture of South Asia.

The Tomb of Sher Shah Suri is situated at Sasaram in Rohtas district of Bihar. Sher Shah Suri's tomb is a majes c example of ancient architecture.
It has elements of Indo-Islamic architecture which includes large open courtyards, high domes, and pillars. It has hints of Afghan architecture as
well. This beau ful structure is a three-storeyed high mausoleum (approximately one hundred and twenty-two feet). It stands in the middle of
an ar ficial square-shaped lake.
