Disease is any harmful deviation
from the normal structural or
functional state of an organism,
generally associated with certain
signs and symptoms.

Communicable Diseases that are caused
by pathogens (virus, bacteria, fungi etc.),
which are disease-causing organisms and
can be transmitted from one person to
another, or from animals to people.

are long-lasting and progress slowly.
These diseases cannot be transmitted

What are the Two Categories

Communicable diseases
➢are caused by pathogen or disease-
causing organisms and can be
transmitted from one person to
another or from animals to people.
Communicable diseases
Examples include common cold,
influenza, cholera, dengue fever,
tuberculosis and warts. These
diseases can be avoided by taking
preventive measures.
Non-Communicable disease (NCD)

person to another.
➢ are caused by unhealthy lifestyle.
➢Some do not cause problems until
the person is quite old.

Noncommunicable or lifestyle diseases are
health problems and conditions that are
noninfectious or nontransmissible and come as
a result of one's modern lifestyle.
Lifestyle has a big impact on one's health and
life.
