HYDROSTATIC TESTING

specified in the latest version of AWWA C950 for RTRP pipes and ASTM D2164 for HDPE
pipes.
M. Upon completion of test, written records of every test clearly identifying the tested section of
the pipe together with time of test and name of testing engineer in tabulated format shall be
submitted to the Royal Commission.
TABLE 3A: Maximum Operating and Hydrostatic Test Pressures Public Wet Utilities
Max. Operating Initial Hydrostatic Final Hydrostatic
Pressurized Wet Utility System
Pressure (MOP) Test Pressure (1 & 2) Test Pressure (1 & 2)
Potable Water System 0.65 MPa 1.5 MOP 1.0 MOP

Recycled Wastewater (Irrigation)

Sanitary & Industrial Force Mains 0.65 MPa 1.5 MOP 1.0 MOP

The Public wet utilities in JIC include the above systems up to 1.5 m outside any buildings, facilities,
treatment plants, pump stations, etc.

Hydrostatic Test Name Leakage/Makeup Drop in Test
Test Length Duration
Water Volume (2) Pressure (3)
Initial Test (trenches partially
backfilled with joints exposed As practical as Repeat the initial test until all leaky

Q1 = ( 0.0012 Ltr/hour/mm) of nominal valve diameter x (Number of Valves in the test section).
1. Hydrostatic Test Pressure shall not exceed the pressure ratings of the pipes, valves, joints, fittings,
etc.

2. Hydrostatic Test Pressures and allowed leakage shall not exceed the values specified in standards
of the different pipe types listed below or recommended by the pipe manufacturers:

 Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) & Unplasticized Polyvinyl Chloride (uPVC) pipes shall be tested as per
the latest version of AWWA C605

 Reinforced Thermosetting Resin Plastic Pipes (RTRP or TRP) shall be tested as per the latest
version of AWWA C950 or manufacturer recommended specifications.

 Ductile Iron (DI) pipes shall be tested as per the latest version of AWWA C600

 High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipes shall be tested as per the latest version of ASTM
