Welcome Back to School: Morning Prayer
Introduction
Almighty God, as we return to school, we give thanks for the many blessings that you have poured
into our lives. You promised us that when we call upon your name, you would answer us. May we
near to you as we gather to praise and worship today and every day. Listen to our prayers as we
place all our trust in you.
Together we make the sign of the cross.
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit
Opening Prayer
Almighty God and Father, as we return to school, we ask for your protection on all our community.
On this the Feast of All Souls, we remember family and friends and members of our school who
have died. We make this prayer through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
Let us now listen to the Word of God
Scripture Reading
A reading from the gospel of Matthew (Mt 11: 28-29)
Jesus said, ‘Come to me all of you who are tired from carrying heavy goods and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke and put it on you, and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in spirit; and
you will find rest.’
The Gospel of the Lord
Prayer of the Faithful
In the silence of your hearts, take a few moments to place your needs before God. Respond to the
following prayers with the response – Hear me, O Lord.
We pray to the Lord
For our own needs Hear me, O Lord
For our families Hear me, O Lord
For those who are suffering from Covid 19 Hear me, O Lord
For those in our families who have died. Hear me, O Lord
For those in our school community you have died Hear me, O Lord
Our Father
United as a family we say the prayer Jesus himself gave us.
Our Father who art in heaven
Hallowed be thy name
Thy Kingdom come
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us
And lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil. Amen.
Final Prayer
We place these and all our prayers and intentions before God as we listen to the following prayer.
Hope
If you only carry one thing throughout your life, let it be Hope.
Let it be hope that better things are always ahead.
Let it be hope that you can get through even the toughest of times.
Let it be hope that you are stronger than any challenge that comes your way.
Let it be hope that you are exactly where you are meant to be right now, and that you are on the
path to where you are meant to be.
Because during these times, hope will be the very thing that carries you through.
And our hope is in Jesus Christ and his Resurrection and promise of eternal life
(last line my inclusion Nikki Banas)
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
