ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE ASSIGNMENT

Introduction
Environmental science is an interdisciplinary academic field that applies
principles of physics, biology, and geography (including ecology, chemistry,
plant science, zoology, mineralogy, oceanography, limnology, soil science,
geology and physical geography, and atmospheric science) to the study of the
environment and its problems. Environmental science developed during the
Enlightenment from the sciences of natural history and medicine. Today, it
offers an integrative, quantitative, and multidisciplinary approach to
environmental systems. Environmental studies combines a greater proportion of
social sciences in order to better understand human connections, perspectives,
and policies concerning the environment. Environmental engineering is
concerned with the design and development of technology with the purpose of
enhancing environmental quality in all of its manifestations.

Environmental scientists seek to understand the physical, chemical, biological,

and geological processes that occur on the earth and to apply that knowledge to
issues such as alternative energy systems, pollution control and mitigation,
natural resource management, and the effects of global warming and climate
change on the earth's natural systems and processes. Almost invariably,
environmental challenges include the interplay of physical, chemical, and
biological processes. Environmental scientists examine environmental
challenges from a systems perspective. Effective environmental scientists must
possess the capacity to link spatial and temporal correlations, as well as do
quantitative analyses. Environmental science emerged as a substantive, active
field of scientific investigation in the 1960s and 1970s, owing to (a) the
requirement for a multidisciplinary approach to analyzing complex
environmental problems, (b) the enactment of substantive environmental laws
requiring specific environmental protocols of investigation, and (c) growing
public awareness of the critical need for action in addressing environmental
problems.

Objectives of Environment Science Assignment

1. To sensitize students about principles of physics, biology, and geography

(including ecology, chemistry, plant science, zoology, mineralogy,
oceanography, limnology, soil science, geology and physical geography,
and atmospheric science)
2. To identify, formulate and solve environmental problems by utilizing the
concept of environmental studies.
3. To understand human activities which are causing environmental
degradation and the measures to be taken to avoid this problem.
4. To create awareness about conservation of natural resources, ecological
balance and biodiversity to achieve sustainable development.
5. Understanding of environmental policies and regulations.
