B Application letters (for Employment)
When applying for a job, you usually need to submit an application letter (also referred to as a
cover letter). You may ask you to submit them by standard mail, online form, fax, ore-mail. See
also job search and letters. The application letter is essentially a sales letter in which you market
your skills, abilities, and knowledge. Therefore, your application letter must be persuasive.
20
The successful application letter accomplishes four tasks: (1) It catches the reader’s attention favorably by
describing how your skills will contribute to the organization, (2) it explains which particular job interests
you and why, (3) it convinces the reader that you are qualified for the job by highlighting and interpreting
the particularly impressive qualifications in your résumé, and (4) it requests an interview. Input also
correspondence, interviewing for a job, persuasion, and salary negotiations.

Technical Paper Committee Indonesia International Geothermal Convention & Exhibition (IIGCE) 2024
Jakarta Convention Center Jakarta, Indonesia
Dear Members of the Technical Paper Committee,
I am writing to express my interest in participating in the 10th Indonesia International Geothermal
Convention & Exhibition (IIGCE) 2024. With a profound interest in the sustainable energy sector and a
commitment to promoting innovation and growth in geothermal energy, I am eager to contribute my insights
and research to this esteemed event.
Having spent the last few years transitioning my focus from a celebrated career in professional sports
to the realm of renewable energy, I have immersed myself in the study and advocacy of geothermal energy.
My journey in sports has endowed me with a unique perspective on teamwork, resilience, and strategic
planning, all of which I now apply to my research and initiatives in the geothermal sector.
My recent work has centered on exploring the potential of Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) and
their application in regions with varying geological conditions. I have been particularly focused on how EGS
can be optimized for both power generation and direct-use applications in agriculture. This research aligns
with the Special Topics and Earth Science: Exploration categories outlined in your call for papers.
Enclosed is the abstract of my paper titled "Enhancing Geothermal Efficiency: Innovations in EGS
for Sustainable Agriculture and Power Generation." This paper delves into new methodologies for improving
the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of EGS, offering practical insights for stakeholders across the
geothermal industry.
I am confident that my contribution will add value to the discussions at IIGCE 2024, particularly in
areas such as energy policy, innovative business models, and the integration of new technologies to overcome
existing bottlenecks in geothermal energy production. I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to discuss
my paper in more detail and to share my perspectives on the future of geothermal energy. Therefore, I kindly
request an interview with the committee to further elaborate on my research and potential contributions.
Additionally, I am open to discussing opportunities for correspondence, interviewing for a relevant
role within your organization, and exploring possibilities for salary negotiations, ensuring mutual benefits
and a productive collaboration.
I look forward to the possibility of presenting my findings and engaging with fellow experts and
enthusiasts at the conference. Thank you for considering my application. Please find my abstract attached,
and do not hesitate to contact me should you require any further information.
Sincerely,
Muhammad Rifqi

SECTION A
Procedure for Low Voltage and High Voltage Electrical Maintenance Operations
Step 1: Identifying and Designating Restricted Areas To ensure safety and compliance in electrical
maintenance operations, the first step involves identifying and designating restricted areas. These include
switchboards, transformer stations, and any areas with exposed conductors. Clearly mark these zones with
appropriate signage and barriers to prevent unauthorized access. This step is crucial to safeguard personnel
from electrical hazards and ensure that only qualified individuals enter these high-risk areas.
Step 2: Authorising Maintenance Before any maintenance work begins, authorization must be obtained.
The Electrical Supervisor plays a pivotal role in this process. They are responsible for evaluating the scope
of work, ensuring that the maintenance plan adheres to safety protocols, and issuing Permits to Work
(PTW). The PTW system is a formal written document that authorizes specific maintenance activities,
detailing the precautions and procedures to follow. It ensures that all parties involved are aware of the
hazards and the measures in place to mitigate them. Only after the Electrical Supervisor has reviewed and
approved the maintenance plan, and issued the PTW, can the work proceed.
Step 3: Isolating and Energising Circuits Isolating circuits is essential to ensure that the electrical system
is safe to work on. Implement the Lock-Out Procedure, which involves physically locking and tagging the
circuit breaker or switch to prevent accidental re-energization. Each worker should use a personal lock and
key, and tags should include the name of the individual and the nature of the work being performed.
Additionally, place temporary warning notices on switchboards to alert other personnel that maintenance
work is in progress. Once maintenance is complete, the Electrical Supervisor must verify that all tools and
personnel are clear from the restricted area before removing the locks and tags. The supervisor then
oversees the safe re-energization of the circuits, ensuring that the system is returned to normal operation
without compromising safety.
By following these steps—designating restricted areas, authorizing maintenance, and safely isolating and
energizing circuits—electrical maintenance operations can be conducted effectively and safely, minimizing
risks and ensuring compliance with safety standards.

SECTION D
Question 1
Problem: Many regions experience frequent power outages due to an over-reliance on non-renewable
energy sources.
Solution:
If regions integrated a higher percentage of renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind
power, into their energy grids, power outages could be significantly reduced. Renewable energy sources are
not only abundant but also less susceptible to the supply chain disruptions that often plague non-renewable
sources. For instance, solar panels can be installed in residential areas and commercial buildings to generate
local power, thereby decreasing the strain on centralized power plants. Wind turbines can be placed in
suitable areas to harness wind energy, providing a constant power supply. By diversifying the energy mix
with renewables, the reliability and stability of the power supply can be greatly improved, leading to fewer
power outages. Moreover, these renewable energy sources are sustainable and environmentally friendly,
contributing to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and combating climate change.
Question 2
Problem: The high cost of energy production can be a burden on both households and industries.
Solution:
If we adopt more efficient energy generation methods, such as combined heat and power (CHP)
systems, the cost of energy production could be significantly lowered. CHP systems generate electricity and
capture the heat that would otherwise be wasted to provide useful thermal energy for heating or industrial
processes. This dual generation method can reduce fuel consumption and lower operational costs, making
energy more affordable. Implementing these systems in both residential and industrial sectors can result in
substantial cost savings, thus alleviating the financial burden on consumers and businesses. Additionally,
investing in energy efficiency measures, such as upgrading to energy-efficient appliances and improving
building insulation, can further reduce energy consumption and costs. By focusing on efficient energy
generation and consumption, we can create a more sustainable and economical energy landscape.
Question 3
Problem: The environmental impact of hydropower projects, such as habitat disruption and changes in
water quality, is a significant concern.
Solution:
To mitigate the environmental impacts of hydropower projects, adopting a run-of-the-river system
could be an effective solution. Unlike traditional dams, run-of-the-river hydropower does not require large
reservoirs, thus minimizing habitat disruption and maintaining natural water flow. This system allows rivers
to continue flowing in their natural courses, preserving aquatic ecosystems and reducing the risk of flooding
in surrounding areas. Additionally, installing fish ladders and bypass systems can help preserve aquatic
ecosystems and ensure the safe passage of fish, maintaining biodiversity. Implementing real-time
monitoring systems can also help manage water quality and adjust operations to minimize negative impacts.
Rev-01
By incorporating these environmentally-friendly practices, we can continue to benefit from hydropower's
renewable energy advantages while significantly reducing its negative ecological footprint. Furthermore,
engaging local communities and stakeholders in the planning and implementation process can ensure that
hydropower projects are developed in a way that balances ecological, economic, and social considerations.
