1. A 80 mm x 80 mm plate is to be connected to a 120 mm x 8 mm plate in a lap joint to transmit a factored tensile


force of 125kN. Providing 6 mm site welds design the Connection.
2. Investigate the safety of a lap joint connecting two plates to the following particulars, The plates are 12 mm and
15 mm thick. Each plate is 75 mm wide.
