GETTING TO KNOW PLANTS


I FILL IN THE BLANKS:
1. Plants that take support and climb up are called Climbers.

2.Pumpkins and watermelon are two creepers.

3. The stalk of a leaf is called Petiole.

1. Can you find a plant in your house or in your neighbourhood which has a long but weak stem? Write
its name, in which category will you place it?

Ans: a) Money plant – Climbers

b) Watermelon – Creepers

2. What is the function of a stem?

Ans: a) the stem holds the plant upright


b) It bears the leaves, flowers and fruits.

c) It helps to transport water and minerals from root to leaves and food from leaves to all parts of

the plant.

3.Which of the following leaves have reticulate venation?

Ans: Tulsi, Coriander and China rose ( Hibiscus also Shoe flower ).

4. If a plant has fibrous root, what type of Venation do its leaves have?

Ans: If a plant has fibrous root its leaves have Parallel Venation.

5. If a plant has leave with reticulate venation what kind of root will it have?

Ans: If a plant has leaves with reticulate venation, it will have tap root.
6. Is it possible for you to find out whether a plant has taproot or fibrous roots by looking at the
impression of its leaf on a sheet of paper?

Ans: Yes, it is possible. If a leaf has a reticulate venation root would be a tap root. If the leaf has parallel
venation, the root would be a fibrous root.

7. What are the parts of a flower?

Ans: Sepals, Petals, Stamens, Anther and Filaments.

Pistil – Stigma, Style, Ovary and Ovule are the parts of a flower.

8. Name the part of plant which produces food.

Ans: The leaves produce food for the plants and the process is called Photosynthesis.

9. In which part of a flower you find ovary?

Ans: Ovary is found in the female part of the flower which is Pistil.

10. Name two plants in which one has joined sepals and the other has separate sepals.

Ans: a)Joined sepals:

Datura, Hibiscus.

b)Separate sepals:

Rose, Jasmine.
