I was taught how networks affects our lives and network components which includes host roles,

end devices, intermediary network devices and the various network media, their uses, advantages
and disadvantages.

I was taught the various network representaions, topologies and the common types of networks
which includes Local area network, Wide area networ, Internet, Intranets and Extranets, where
they can be found and how to identify them.

I was lectured on internet connections where I learnt internet access technologies, reliable
networks, the current network trends and network architecture which include fault tolerance,
scalability, quality of service and security.

I was introduced to network security where I learnt the network security treats and the network
security solutions to the treats and the IT professional and the roles and duties of the IT
professional.

I had a lab work on Researching IT and Networking Job Opportunities where i researched on Job
Opportunities for a networker then had a discussion with instructors based on findings and
reflection was done inline with findings.

I was taught how to access a Cisco IOS device for configuration purposes, the components of
OS, their roles and how to navigate Cisco IOS to configure network devices.

I was taught the command structure of Cisco IOS software, the command syntax, syntax check
and how to Configure a Cisco IOS device using command line interface.

I was taught how to Save Configurations using IOS commands, I was taught the configuration
file, how devices communicate across network media and IP addresses.
I was taught how to configure a host device with an IP address, assign IP addreses to end
devices, switch virtual interface configuration and how to verify connectivity between two end
devices.

I had a lab work on how Navigate the IOS by Using Tera Term for Console Connectivity where I
access a Cisco Switch, router and Configure Basic Device Settings.

A desceription of the types of rules that are necessary to successfully communicate,


communication fundamentals and why protocols are necessary for network communication.

I was taught the purpose of adhering to protocol suites, the evolution of protocol suites the role
of standards organisations in establishing protocols for network interoperability.

I was taught how the (Transfer Control Protocol)TCP/(Internet Protocol) IP model and the OSI
model are used to facilitate standardization in communication process.

I was taught how data encapsulation allows data to be transportated across the network and how
the local hosts access local resources on anetwork.

I prepared and took my Module 1-3 (Basic network connectivity and communication)
accessment then engaged in practicals that were already done for familirity.

An introduction on the concept of the physical layer was done, where I learnt the purpose,
function and characteristics of the physical layer.

I was taught cabling which includes copper cabling, fibre-optic cabling, UTP cabling and
wireless media where I learnt the characteristics, advantages and disadvantages.
I was taught convertion of numbers from various bases to another and I was introduced to IPv4
addresses, IPv6 addresses, the relationship between hexidcimals and the IPv6.

A Description on the purpose and function of the data link layer in preparing communication for
transmission on specific media was done.

I was taught network topologies and a comparism of the characteristics of media access control
methods on WAN and LAN topologies was taught.

I was taught the data link frame where a describtion of the characteristics and functions of the
data link frame was done.

I was taught the ethernet frame where I learnt how the Ethernet sublayers are related to the frame
fields.

I was taught the ethernet MAC address, the MAC addredss table where I was taught how a
switch builds its MAC address table and forwards frames.

I was taught swicth speed and forewarding methods where I learnt switch forwarding methods
and port settings available on Layer 2 switch ports.

I did a lab work on the use of Wireshark to Examine Ethernet Frames, I examine the Header
Fields in an Ethernet II Frame and use Wireshark to Capture and Analyze Ethernet Frames

I was taught the network layer characteristics, how the network layer uses IP protocols for
reliable communications, IP encapsulation and the characteristics of IP.

I had a class on IPv4 packet, the role of the major header fields in the IPv4 packet, IPv4 Ethernet
packets in Wireshark the control information and the difference between packets.
I had a class on IPv6 packet, the role of the major header fields in the IPv6 packet, limitations of
IPv4, IPv6 Ethernet packets in Wireshark and the control information.

I was taught how a host route, how network devices use routing tables to direct packets to a
destination network, host forwarding decision, default gateway and host routing tables.

I was introduced to routing table, was taught the function of fields in the routing table of a router
and router packet forwarding decision.

I was taught destionations which included destination on same network and destination on
remote network.

I had a lab work on identification of MAC and IP Addresses, I gather PDU information for local
and remote network Communication and guided others in the procedures.

I was taught the Address Resolution Protocol(ARP), its functions, request, operation role in
remote communications and how to remove entries from an ARP table.

I was taught the basic router configuration steps, did a basic router configuration and was taught
how to configure initial router settings.

I had a lab work on troubleshooting default gateway issues, basic device configuration and I also
assited my co-trainees in their lab work by guiding them through.

My instructor described the structure of an IPv4 address including the network portion, the host
portion, and the subnet mask.

I was taught IPv4 Unicast, Broadcast, and Multicast, we had a comparism of the characteristics
and uses of the unicast, broadcast and multicast IPv4 addresses.
I was taught the types of IPv4 addresses, network segmentation, how to calculate IPv4 subnets
for a /24, a /16 and /8 prefix.

I was given a set of requirements for subnetting, implement an IPv4 addressing scheme and was
asked to explain how to create a flexible addressing scheme using variable length subnet
masking (VLSM).

I had a lecture on IPv4 Issues, was taught the need for IPv6 addressing, how IPv6 addresses are
represented, IPv6 address types and did a comparism on the types of IPv6 network addresses.

I was lectured on GUA and LLA static configuration, how to Configure static global unicast and
link-local IPv6 network addresses, how to configure global unicast addresses dynamically and
how to configure link-local addresses dynamically.

I was taught how ICMP is used to test network connectivity, how to use ping and traceroute
utilities to test network connectivity.

I had a lab work on how to use ping and traceroute to test network connectivity, I built and
configured the network, used tracert and traceroute Ping Command for Basic Network Testing
and troubleshooted the Topology

I had a lab work on observation of DNS resolution, I observed the DNS Conversion of a URL to
an IP Address, DNS Lookup Using the nslookup Command on a Web Site and DNS Lookup
Using the nslookup Command on Mail Servers

I had a lecture on why basic security measure are necessary on network devices, identifing
security vulnerabilities, identifing general mitigation techniques and how to configure network
devices with device hardening features to mitigate security threats.
I had a lab work on where I researched on the network security treats, I explore the SANS
Website, Identify Recent Network Security Threats and detail a Specific Network Security
Threat

I had a lab work on configuration of network devices with SSH, I configured basic device
settings, configured the router and switch for SSH Access.

I had a lab work on how to secure network devices, I configured basic device settings,
configured basic security measures on the router and switch.

I revised and wrote my assessment for module 4-7 (Ethernet concepts) and module 8-10
(Communication between networks).

I revised and wrote my assessment for module 11-13( IP addressing), module 14-15 ( Network
application and communication) and module 16-17 ( Building and securing a small network)

I prepared and wrote my practice skills exams an exam which is a periquisite to the final skills
exam.

I wrote my final skills exam where i built and configured a small network.

I practiced and prepared ahead of my final exam.

I wrote my final exam for CCNA1 which marked the end of the training and was qualified for an
award of certificate.
