The video explains the concept of place value using a place value house analogy, where hundreds, tens, and ones are represented as different family members. It illustrates how the position of a digit affects its value, demonstrating with examples like 70 and 700, and how adding a zero changes the value of a number, such as in 360. The use of blocks helps visualize the differences in value based on the digit's position.

In this video we are going to learn about place value

Lets jump right into it

For easy understanding we are going to use a place value house

We have hundreds, tens, ones

Hundreds can be taken as the big brothers

Tens, as the little sisters and ones are the baby brothers and sisters of the house

But there is a rule in the house

We can only have a digit in each digit
A digit is a number from 0 to 9
Lets look at this number and put it in the right place
70 has two digits and both of them needs to be in separate rooms

How many tens do we have in 70

Yes 7 so we have 7 in tens place
How many ones do we have in 70
Zero so we have zero in ones place

Lets use our plane value blocks

To get 70 we need 7 tens
1,2,3,4,5,6,7
And 0 ones

Each of these blocks are made of 10 little blocks, so if we count them we’ll get 70 of those little
blocks

If we take 700 instead of 70

The 7 will go in the hundreds room

Lets see this with 100s blocks. To illustrate this we may use the help of blocks. We need seven
blocks of hundred
100
200
300
400
500
600
700
If we compare

We can see that 700 is a lot more than 70

So a 7 in hundred room is a lot bigger than 7 in 10s room

If 7 was in ones room It has only 7 blocks.

Now we take the example of 6, if we keep 6 at the ones place it has six blocks.
If we move it to the tens place we can see the di erence with blocks. 6 at the tens place has a
value of 60 and 6 at ones place has value of 6 only. We have to look closely and ee at what place
are these digits placed. If 6 is at the hundreds place, it is 600 which is a lot more than 60.

6 in the 100s place is bigger than 6 in tens.

We have 36 as our next example

3 will be in the tens room with 3 tens block
And 6 in ones place with 6 blocks
ff
Lets add one zero in the number
360
Can we say that by adding 0 the value of the number has increased?
Yes it has increased
Lets illustrate it with the blocks

As 3 now is in the hundreds place we need 3 100s blocks and for 6 In the tens place we need 6
blocks of tens and in ones place there are 0

The di erent positions of the number depicts di erent values of the number
