1. About S.R.T.M. University, Nanded

Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded, established in 1994, caters


educational needs of the southern part of Marathwada region of Maharashtra covering four
districts namely, Nanded, Latur, Parbhani and Hingoli. The University has received 2(f) and
12(B) recognition of UGC and achieved recognition, name and fame at the state, national and
international level in the area of academic, research and innovation and extension activities.
The University has been re-accredited by the NAAC for 4th cycle having ‘B++’ grade with
CGPA 2.96.

The University follow school pattern on its campus and sub-campuses to breakdown
the traditional disciplinary boundaries and to integrate scientific thoughts emanating from
different branches of human learning and has been trying hard to enhance the academic
standard of this region by taking several measures in this regard. University has 14 Schools on
the main campus, 3 at Latur sub-campus, 2 at Parbhani sub-campus, a constituent college New
Model Degree College at Hingoli and has established academic and research centers like Dr.
Babasaheb Ambedkar Chair and Study Centre, Shri Guru Govind Singhji Adhyasan Sankul
and Research Centre, Dr Shankarrao Chavan Adhyasan Kendra, Women's Study Centre on the
main campus and Late Uttamrao Rathod Tribal Development and Research Centre at Kinwat.
The University has more than 370 affiliated colleges under its jurisdiction offering about 200
programmes with student strength of 1.27 lakh enrolled under the faculties of Science and
Technology, Commerce and Management, Humanities and Interdisciplinary Studies. The
University has established International Students ‘Centre to assist the foreign students for
processing their admission requests and also to find suitable mentors for pursuing higher
education in a particular program in this university. The University is a recipient of financial
assistance from RUSA, DST, UGC, etc. and other funding agencies under various schemes to
enhance, augment infrastructural facilities for research and extension activities. Teachers have
invented, patented and commercialized several ideas and have generated research grants worth
Rs. 12.5 crore, whose academic and social value is remarkable. Researchers from Campus and
sub-campuses have published more than 1500 research papers in peer reviewed journals and
have received recognition at the national and international level. This university has
established a state-of-the-art Central Instrumentation Centre equipped with the necessary
modern research equipment.

2. Ph.D. Entrance Test – 2024 (PET – 2024) - Eligibility and Registration Fees

S. R. T. M. University, Nanded is conducting its 11th Ph.D. Entrance Test


(PET-2024) on 31st August 2024 in OFFLINE mode at three district places namely, Nanded,
Latur and Parbhani. Interested eligible candidates seeking admission to the Ph.D. program of
this university may submit their application in online mode by visiting the University website
(https://www.srtmun.ac.in) before the due date as specified in this booklet. Applications
received after the due date, and incomplete in any respect, shall not be entertained. Applicants
are advised to check their eligibility before submitting their application.

2.1 Eligibility for admission to the Ph.D. Program:

The following candidates are eligible to seek admissions to the Ph.D.Program. Candidates
who have completed:

i. A 2-year (4-semester) Master’s degree program after a 3-year Bachelor’s


degree program or qualifications declared equivalent to the Master’s degree in
the concerned subject from a statutory university with at least 55%marks in
aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 10-point scale (or an
equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed).

ii. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade shall be applicable for the
candidates belonging to SC / ST / VJ / NT / OBC (non-creamy layer) /
Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories
of candidates as per the decision of the UGC and the Govt. of Maharashtra from
time to time.

iii. A candidate with 4-year (8-semester) Bachelor’s degree with Research


(Honours by Research) shall also be eligible for direct admission to the Ph. D.
program provided they score a minimum CGPA of 7.5/10 or 75% marks in
aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is
followed. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade shall be applicable to
the candidates belonging to SC/ST/VJ/NT/OBC (non-creamy layer)
/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories
of candidates as per the decision of the UGC or Govt. of Maharashtra from time
to time.

iv. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grades shall also be applicable to


those who have obtained Master's degree prior to 19th September, 1991.

v. Candidates who have cleared the M.Phil. course (in regular mode only) with at
least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in the UGC 10-point (or an
equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) shall be
eligible for admission to the Ph.D. program. A relaxation of 5% marks or its
equivalent grade shall be applicable to the candidates belonging to SC / ST /
OBC (non-creamy layer) / VJ / NT/ Differently-able, Economically Weaker
Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the UGC
and the Govt. of Maharashtra from time to time.

vi. Candidates who are in the final year of their qualifying examination of PG
program are provisionally eligible to apply for the PET-2024. However,
admission of such candidates shall be confirmed only if they fulfill the
eligibility conditions at the time of the allocation of supervisor (RAC).

vii. It shall be the responsibility of the applicant to ensure the eligibility conditions
and they are providing the true information in the application. If the furnished
information is found false, at any stage, the candidature shall cancelled.

viii. Candidates whose result is in CGPA or grade points need to submit certificate
of equivalent percentage of marks from their respective universities.

2.2 Registration cum Examination Fees and Mode of Payment:

Candidates applying for PET 2024, including those who are requesting for
exemption from PET-2024, need to pay registration, processing and examination fee
as per the mode of payment mentioned in this e-prospectus. All the process from
registration to declaration of results shall be done in online mode and shall be
communicated to the candidates through their login credentials only. No separate
communication shall be done in this regard. Therefore, students are advised to
preserve their login credentials till the end of the process.

3. Procedure for registration for PET-2024:

Applications for the PET-2024 Examination or Exemption must be submitted to the


University through online mode only by visiting the University website
(https://www.srtmun.ac.in) on or before the due date. Before applying for the same,
the candidates are advised to check eligibility, availability of vacancies in a particular
subject, etc, details of which are given in this prospectus.

The SRTM University, Nanded, through PET-2024, invites applications from the
eligible candidates in two separate modes:

A. PET-2024 Examination,
OR
B. Exemption from PET-2024

If a candidate wishes to apply for both i.e., PET-2024 Examination as well as


requesting for PET exemption, he / she must apply separately by paying appropriate
registration fee.

Candidates applying for the PET-2024 Exemption must ensure that they fulfill the
eligibility condition for the exemption as listed in this prospectus.

4. Instructions for PET-2024 Appearing Candidates

Qualifying PET-2024 is mandatory for the admission to the Ph D programs of the


University by submitting an online application through the portal provided. Fill-in all
the necessary entries in the online registration form available on the University
website, and submit the same online along with uploading all the necessary
enclosures including recent color passport size photograph, specimen signature
and proof of the registration fee payment on or before the deadline. The candidate’s
applying for the PET-2024 Examination need to submit their online
application only. No Hard copy of the application is needed. Hence, it is advised
to candidates not to submit / send the hard copy of their application to the
University. It is advised that the candidates must retain copy of their online application
with them.

Mode of PET-2024 Examination:

The PET-2024 shall be conducted in pen-and-paper (OFFLINE) mode at three


centers namely, Nanded, Latur and Parbhani. PET-2024 shall be a qualifying test and
shall be of 100 marks with multiple choice questions, where candidates shall mark
their answers on OMR sheets, carbon copy of which shall be given to the candidates
at the examination center. Entrance Test paper shall comprise TWO Sections for a
duration of 2 hours without any break. Questions belonging to Section A, shall be
based on Research Methodology and shall be compulsory for all the candidates; while
those in Section B, shall be based on the subject for which the Ph.D. admission is
sought by the candidate. The Syllabus for the question paper of Section B shall be
based on the UG and PG syllabus of the “concerned subject” of S.R.T.M. University,
Nanded. The detailed syllabus of the same is available on the University website

 All questions shall be of Multiple Choice, each correct answer carrying 2 marks.
 There shall be no negative marks for wrong answers.
 Minimum marks required for qualifying PET-2024 shall be 50% for general
category students, while that for the reserved category students is 45%
 It is mandatory to upload/ submit caste certificate/ PWD certificate, non-creamy
layer certificate, etc.

Any objection, query on the question(s) must be reported by the candidates to the
Director, Board of Examination and Evaluation within three days from the date of
examination through the Google link provided for this purpose. All questions shall be
of Multiple Choice Type with only one correct option. Each question marked with
correct answer carries 2 marks.

Examination centers:
PET-2024 examination shall be conducted at three centers namely, Nanded, Latur
and Parbhani. Candidates shall be required to appear for the PET-2024 at the
allocated centers only, details of the exam center shall be communicated to the
candidates through the admit card made available on the portal through their login
credentials only. The candidates may give their preferences of the examination center,
however, the University reserves rights to change / include / exclude the examination
centers due to the logistics or other issues. Hence, candidates may or may not get
examination center of their convenience. Once the examination center is allocated to a
candidate, it shall be final and no requests for further changes shall be entertained.
Therefore, it shall be the responsibility of the candidate to check the center name and
the time slot allocated to him / her and reach the concerned center at least half an hour
before the start of the examination.

Admit Cards / Hall Tickets:


The Admit Cards / Hall Tickets for PET-2024 appearing candidates will be made
available through the individual login a week before the examination and shall not be
sent to the candidates by post / courier / email. For downloading the admit card,
candidate is required to login into University website using the username and
password provided at the time of submission of PET-2024 application. It shall be the
sole responsibility of the candidate to download the Admit Card, get it attested by the
Gazette Officer/ Principal / Faculty of University or Faculty of College and produce
it at the time of examination. Candidates without Admit Cards will not be allowed to
enter the examination hall or appear for the examination.

Result of the PET-2024:

Result of PET-2024 shall be communicated to the individual candidate through their login
credentials.

After the declaration of the result, the qualified candidates shall be called for personal
interview cum supervisor allocation committee, the Research Allocation Committee
(RAC), as per the schedule declared by the P.G. Section of the University on its official
website at later time under the link PET-2024. Once a candidate is declared Qualified in
PET-2024, the University shall issue a validity certificate having validity of only ONE
year from the date of the declaration of the PET-2024 results.

Allocation of the scholar shall be done on the basis of merit list prepared based on

• i.70 % of the weight-age of PET-2024 score, and


• ii. 30 % weight-age for the performance in the personal interview at the time of
RAC.
Note: Students involved in malpractices, of any kind, shall be debarred from the
PET-2024 and shall attract punishment(s) as per the Examination rules of this
University.

5. Instructions for the PET-2024 Exempted Candidates
Qualifying PET examination of the University is mandatory for admission to the Ph D
programme of S.R.T.M.U. However, the candidates either of the conditions
mentioned below are exempted from the PET-2024. All such candidates who wish to
claim exemption from PET-2024, need to apply for exemption in the online mode of
PET-2024 registration by checking appropriate box in the application form before the
due date. Further, they are required to upload the necessary documents in support of it
along with the recent color passport size photograph, specimen signature and proof of
the payment of registration fee. The candidates requesting for PET-2024
Exemption need to submit hard copy of their online filled application along with
the necessary enclosures, including the proofs in support of their claim for
exemption from PET-2024, so as to reach the following address on or before the
due date. Applications received after the due date shall not be entertained.

The envelope containing the application must be highlighted as “APPLICATION


FOR PET – 2024 (Exemption Mode) (Subject: _________________)” on the top
side. Incomplete applications, in any respect, shall be rejected and no further queries
shall be entertained in this regard. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the candidate to
ensure that the application for the PET-2024 Exemption is complete in all respect and
is supported by necessary attachments as evidence for PET-2024 exemption. The
University shall not be responsible for any postal / courier delays and hence the
candidates are advised to be very careful regarding submission of the hard copy
to the University, before the deadline.

Exemption Criteria from PET-2024:


Qualifying Ph.D. Entrance Test (PET) is mandatory for seeking admissions to the
Ph.D. Programme of this University as per the guidelines laid down by the University
Grants Commission, New Delhi. However, candidates fulfilling either of the
conditions listed below are EXEMPTED from appearing for the PET-2024 and shall
be eligible for Ph.D. admissions without any examinations. However, it is mandatory
for such candidates to register through the procedure stated above by paying the
requisite amount of processing fee. Applications without registration fees shall not be
entertained. The criteria for exemption include,

a) Candidates qualified in UGC-NET (including JRF) / UGC-CSIRNET (including
JRF) / Maharashtra SET/GATE (with Valid Score)/ ICAR / ICMR / DBT and DST
Inspire fellowship / ACAR/DET/DST/CEED and similar National level tests.

b) Candidates with M. Phil degree from any statutory recognized University within
India in the relevant subject with a minimum of 55 % marks (relaxation of 5% of
marks for the reserve category students).

c) Those candidates who were declared qualified in PET - 2022 and whose score is
valid till August 2025 shall be eligible for admission to the Ph D program of 2024
based on the merit list prepared in this regard. They need not appear for the
PET-2024, however, they need to intimate their willingness through a written
application along with the copy of the score card of PET-2022. Admissions of such
candidates shall be confirmed only on the basis of the combined merit list prepared
after considering scores of the candidates qualifying PET-2024. Therefore, if such
candidates wish to improve their performance are advised to re-appear for the
PET-2024 by registering for it as per the procedure laid down.

Candidates requesting for exemption from PET-2024 need to submit the online
registration form uploading necessary documents in support of their claim on or
before the deadline. It shall be the responsibility of the candidate to ensure himself
that he / she fulfills the requirements for the same at the time of application to
PET-2024. Incomplete applications or applications without necessary enclosures shall
not be entertained and stand rejected. All such applications claiming PET-2024
Exemption shall be scrutinized by a committee, whose decision shall be final and
shall be mandatory for all. Those applications, whose exemption claims were
rejected by the scrutiny / screening committee shall not be considered / re-considered
for allowing them to appear for the PET-2024 examinations. In case of doubt of
fitness for exemption, it is advised to apply for both (examination and exemption)
separately by paying appropriate registration fees. Further, the exemptionand
examination form will be considered for a particular subject only and they are not
transferable. Fees once paid shall not be refund in any case.

6. Selection Criteria for Ph.D. Research Program 2024


Passing Rules:
i. A candidate is declared to be qualified in the PET-2024 if he/she scores a
minimum of 50 % of marks (general category students) or 45 % marks (reserved
categories as per Govt. Of Maharashtra norms). Separate passing in Section A
and B is mandatory.
ii. The Exam Section of the University shall provisionally declare the PET-2024
result as qualified or not qualified, mentioning their score in both the sections.
iii. If no candidate, in a particular subject, is found to score the minimum number of
marks, seats for that particular subject shall lie vacant and shall be filled in from
among the exempted candidates, if available.
iv. PET - 2024 qualified as well as exempted candidates shall be required to appear
before the Research Allocation Committee (RAC) for personal interview as per
the schedule declared by the PG section in this regard.

v. Final merit list in each subject shall be prepared by the PG Section based on the
performance of the candidates in the PET-2024 examination and the personal
interview. This shall be prepared considering 70% weight-age of the score in PET
and 30% in the personal interview.
vi. Research supervisors shall be allocated to the candidates for the available seats
based on the combined score (merit) following the reservation policies specified
by Govt. of Maharashtra.
vii. In case of tie-break, score of the candidate in the concerned subject in PET
Examination, then the PG percentage will be considered as a merit, in case of tie-
break at PG level percentage then UG percentage in that particular subject shall
be the basis of merit. If the tie- break still persists, age of the candidate shall be the
basis to resolve it.
viii. For the PET Exempted candidates, the tie-break shall be resolved on the basis of
the score in the concerned subject at PG level and then at UG level. If the
tie-break still persists, age of the candidate shall be the basis to resolve it.
ix. Out of the total available vacancies, 60 % seats shall be filled in from among the
PET-2024 qualified candidates, while remaining 40% seats shall be filled in from
among the PET-2024 exempted candidates by observing the reservation rules
laid down by the Government of Maharashtra.
x. The RAC shall allocate Supervisor to the eligible candidates considering the
willingness / quota of a particular Research Supervisor/Guide, topics available
and the subject of interest of the candidates as indicated by him/her during the
interview. Allocation of candidates will be made strictly on merit basis.
xi. The RAC may assign, in case of interdisciplinary subjects, co-guide/s recognized
by this University, if required.
xii. The candidates shall not have any say / role in selecting the Research
Supervisor/Guide.
xiii. PET qualified Candidate having valid Certificate who could not get allocation in
two RAC need to apply for allocation in the next PET.

xiv. Allocation shall be only as per the vacancies and reservation policies. No
candidate shall be allocated beyond the available vacancies.
xv. Candidates hold PG Degree from other states and foreign universities shall be
treated as open category candidates.
xvi. Research Supervisor/Guide allocation to the foreign students shall be done as
per the University rules.

8. Guidelines for Foreign Students


For foreign students, provisional admission to the Ph.D. Programme shall be given
throughout the year and process shall be done by the International Students Centre of

9. Post RAC Ph D Registration

The RAC shall allocate a Supervisor/Guide to a candidate and it shall be mandatory


for the Supervisor/Guide to accept the allocated candidate. After allocation of the

Supervisor/Guide, the applicant shall report the concerned research centre / supervisor
and complete admission formalities by paying requisite fee. He shall complete the
course work and shall prepare a synopsis with a well-defined ‘Research Topic’ in
consultation with the Supervisor and shall submit it to the PG Section for its approval
by the Research Recognition Committee (RRC).

The Ph.D. registration of the candidate shall be confirmed only after the approval of
the research topic by the RRC Research. The date of registration, if the topic is
approved by the RRC shall be the date on which the candidate was allocated Ph. D.
Supervisor/Guide by the RAC.
A Ph.D. Course work of required credits shall be compulsory for all the PET passed
as well as PET exempted candidates including the foreign students. However, there
shall be provisions for exemption from certain credits of the course work depending
upon qualifications of the candidates. The candidates claiming for such exemption
are required to complete the course work of remaining credits. The details of the
course work along with course work duration, subjects, syllabus, credit pattern,
passing rules, etc will be made available on the official website of the University
time-to-time.

10. DISCLAIMER
1. PET-2024 is only Qualifying Examination and neither PET-2024 qualified nor
exempted candidates can claim automatic registration for the Ph.D. Programme.
2. Admission to the Ph.D. Program shall be finalized by the RAC by following
reservation norms and as per the merit and availability of the vacancies in the
concerned subject. Therefore, decision taken by the RAC shall be final and
mandatory for all.
3. The RAC shall decide the Supervisor for Ph.D. Programme. Candidates shall
not have any say in selecting the Supervisor / Guide.
4. It shall be the responsibility of the candidate to check whether he/she fulfills the
eligibility conditions for the Ph.D. registration. University shall not be
responsible for any lapses thereof.
5. In case of any grievance or dispute the decision of the University shall be final
and binding to all.
6. As end-to-end service all the way from the PET registration till the admission
and award of Ph D shall be done in ONLINE mode. Therefore, candidates are
advised to preserve the login credentials. No request for change in any
information submitted in the online form (like mobile no., Email ID, Centre
etc.)shall be entertained by the University.
7. Candidates from reserved category other than Maharashtra shall be considered
in the Open category.
8. Fees paid once, shall not be refund under any circumstances.
9. Reservation Regarding specially/differently Abled candidates shall be made
applicable as per the State Government Policy.

10. Candidates already admitted or selected for the Ph.D. program of this
university, are not eligible to apply for the PET-2024.
