Assessment and Evaluation in Education NQF Level 5 Credits 10 DIEPJ & BHEPJ

Pre-requisite: none

Course description: The Educational Assessment and Evaluation course is designed for
undergraduate students to better understand of the issues underlying the development and
implementation of appropriate assessment and evaluation techniques and procedures. The
course will cover Bloom’s Taxonomy, the types of assessment, the role of assessment in early
childhood equation and the importance of assessing non- academic criteria like self-esteem. As
reflective practitioners, they will be able to create and administer accurate, reliable, and fair
assessments, as well as report and interpret results in order to make sound evaluations to inform
teaching and learning as well as various stakeholders such as students, parents, line ministry,
funders, and any other stallholders.

Outcomes of learning

Upon completing this course, students should be able to:

 Demonstrate understanding of fundamental concepts of educational assessment and


evaluation.
 Discuss and apply various models that inform assessment (Blooms Taxonomy).
 Examine the general principles of assessment.
 Explain the functional roles of various types of assessment.
 Plan and design the classroom achievement tests including performance Based
Assessments and report the assessments results and interpret to various educational
stakeholders.

acquisition of a wide range of knowledge, skills, attitudes and values
2.3. Design assessments to test appropriate of testing of each area
