Brief Biography of RA Kartini (1879-1904)
Raden Ajeng Kartini was born on April 21
1879 in Jepara. Central Java. His father was
previously the Regent of Jepara.
Kartini attended elementary school because at
that time there was still a tradition of
seclusion for girls. Thus, he only kept his
desire to continue studying until a higher
level.
Even though she is no longer in school,
Kartini likes reading magazines and books so that her mind is open, especially when she
learns about the condition of women in Europe who are free to receive more education.
He then compared it with the condition of Indonesian women. From there, her intention
to establish a school for girls in Jepara emerged.
Kartini also often wrote letters to her friends in the Netherlands. Not long after, he finally
received a scholarship from the Dutch government to continue his studies. However, at
that time, her father decided that Kartini should marry Raden Adipati Joyodiningrat, who
was the Regent of Rembang.
Raden Adipati Joyodiningrat understands his wife's dream of establishing a girls' school
in Rembang. Then he allowed Kartini to build a school. After the school in Rembang was
established, other "Kartini Schools" appeared in Semarang, Surabaya, Yogyakarta,
Malang, and Cirebon.
On September 17 1904, Kartini died giving birth to her first son at the age of 25. A
collection of Kartini's letters was published as a book entitled "Door Duisternis tot Liehr"
(After Darkness Comes Light). He was also confirmed as a national hero through the
Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia No. 108/TK/Year 1964.

In 1915, Haji Agus Salim
joined Sarekat Islam (SI), and became the second leader of SI after

Indonesia's National Heroes on December 27 1961 based on Presidential
Decree number 657 of 1961.
Agus Salim was a freedom fighter who was named an Indonesian
National Hero on December 27 1961, through Presidential Decree
Number 657 of 1961. During his life, he was known as a politician,
journalist and diplomat with the nickname "The Grand Old Man". Agus
Salim was nicknamed "The Grand Old Man", because of his
achievements in the field of diplomacy and his fluency in foreign
languages. The reason is, Agus Salim is known to master seven foreign
languages, namely Dutch, English, Arabic, Turkish, French, Japanese
and German.

Ahmad Yani was born in
Purworejo, Central Java, 19 June
1922 and died in Lubang Buaya,
Jakarta, 1 October 1965, precisely
at the age of 43 years. He was the
commander of the Indonesian
National Army who was killed by
members of the 30 September
Movement.
His military career began when he joined the republican army to fight
against the Dutch. In the first months after the Declaration of
Independence, he formed a battalion with himself as Commander and
led Indonesia's victory against the British in Magelang.
He also succeeded in defending Magelang against the Dutch, who at that
time were trying to take over the city. In fact, thanks to his services, he
received the nickname 'Savior of Magelang'.

Pierre Andries Tendean was
born 21 February 1939. He
died on 1 October .1965 at the
age of 26 years. He was one of
the Indonesian military officers
who became a victim of the 30
September Movement in 1965.
He started his military career by working in intelligence and was then
appointed as Adjutant to TNI General Abdul Haris Nasution to replace
Kav Captain Adolf Gustaf Manullang who died during a peace mission
in the African Congo in 1963.
Captain Pierre Tendean was buried in the Kalibata Heroes' Cemetery
along with six other officers who were victims of the 30 September
Movement, and was declared a Hero of the Indonesian Revolution on
October 5 1965.

Raden Oto Iskandar in Nata was
born in Bandung, West Java, on 31
March 1897 and died in Mauk,
Tangerang, Banten, 20 December
1945 at the age of 48 years. He is an
Indonesian National Hero who
received the nickname Jalak
Harupat, and is currently the name
of the football stadium that the
people of Bandung are proud of.
In the period before independence,
he served as Deputy Chairman of
the Bandung branch of Budi Utomo,

Brief Biography of Supomo
Supomo was born in Sukoharjo,
Surakarta on January 22 1903. He
received his first education at ELS
(equivalent to elementary school
level), then continued to MULO
(equivalent to junior high school
level). He completed law school in
1923, then continued his studies at
Leiden University in the
Netherlands. His name is
immortalized on the streets of
Jakarta and a number of other cities
in Indonesia for his great services.
Dr Soepomo was one of the
formulators of the 1945 Constitution. Even though he came from a small town,
Soepomo was born into a prominent family there. He is the first son of Raden
Tumenggung Wignyodipuro, official Regent Anom Inspector of State Results
Kasunanan Surakarta Hadiningrat.
After independence, he was appointed as Minister of Justice of the Republic of
Indonesia. He also served as Chancellor of the University of Indonesia in 1951.
Not only that, he was also the Indonesian Ambassador to England in London.
Soepomo finally died in 1958 in Jakarta and was buried in Solo. As per RI
Presidential Decree No. 123/TK/1965, he was declared a national hero.

Brief Biography of Sutomo
Sutomo, better known as Bung
Tomo, was born in Blauran
Village, in the center of Surabaya

Kartawan Tjiptowidjojo, a middle-
class family head. His mother was

He also admitted that he was
related to several close companions
of Prince Diponegoro who was
buried in Malang. Bung Tomo had worked as a government employee,
personal staff at a private company, assistant at the government tax
office, and a minor employee at a Dutch export-import company. Apart
from that, he also worked as a police officer in a township and was also
a member of Sarekat Islam before moving to Surabaya and becoming a
local distributor for the Singer sewing machine company.
Bung Tomo is known as a devout Muslim. He died while performing the
Hajj pilgrimage in Padang Arafah, Mecca, on October 7 1981. Bung
Tomo's body was brought back to his homeland and buried at the Ngagel
Public Cemetery in Surabaya.

Brief Biography of K.H. Ahmad Dahlan
K.H. Ahmad Dahlan was a cleric,
educator and Islamic reformist figure who
was born on August 1 1868 in
Yogyakarta, Central Java, Indonesia. He is
known as the founder of Muhammadiyah,
one of the largest Islamic organizations in
Indonesia.
Dahlan was born into a devoutly religious
family and has a strong Islamic

In 1912, Dahlan founded Muhammadiyah, an Islamic organization which aims to
carry out reforms in the religious, educational and social fields. This organization

In the field of education, Dahlan founded modern schools that integrated Islamic

Keumalahayati, is a female
warrior from the Sultanate
of Aceh. His father's name
was Admiral Mahmud Syah.
His grandfather from his
father's line was Admiral
Muhammad Said Syah, son of
Sultan Salahuddin Syah who
ruled around 1530–1539 AD.
Meanwhile, Sultan
Salahuddin Syah was the
son of Sultan Ibrahim Ali Mughayat Syah (1513–
1530 AD), who was the founder of the Kingdom of
Aceh Darussalam.
In 1585–1604, he held the positions of Head of
the Palace Guards, Commander of Secrets and
Commander of Government Protocols from Sultan
Saidil Mukammil Alauddin Riayat Syah IV.
Malahayati led 2,000 Inong Balee troops (widows
of martyred heroes) to fight against Dutch ships
and forts on 11 September 1599 and killed
Cornelis de Houtman in one-on-one combat on the
deck of the ship.
He received the title Admiral for his bravery,
so he became better known as Admiral Malahayati.
