At the end of the lesson, the students can:

a. differentiate academic writing and professional writing;


b. value the significance of identifying the purpose of academic writing
and professional writing; and
c. present an acrostic reflecting their understanding of academic and
professional writing.

B. Review

The teacher will give a 5-minute activity entitled “Counter Strike” to review the
learning of the students in the previous discussions.

Directions: The teacher will show a series of claims and the students will write their
counterclaims in each claim.

1. Basketball is a famous sport in the world.


2. The basic keys to success are perseverance and discipline.
3. You only need three things in your life; children, a house, and a car.
4. Cheaters should go to jail.

C. Lesson Proper

1. Activity

The teacher will give a 10-minute activity entitled “Draft-to-Present” to know the
prior learning of the student in the day's lesson.

Direction:
● The teacher will divide the class into 4 groups.
● Each group is given a type of work/writing styles to be read.
● The members of the group are tasked to read and examine the given
sample texts.
● After reading the sample texts, each group will be asked to complete
the table below.
● Each group will assign their group leader and their presenter to lead
their outputs.

The teacher will now introduce the day’s lesson by flashing the presentation. The
teacher will call the students at random to read the slides.

Purpose as a Crucial Consideration in Academic and Professional Writing

Academic Writing
- is a style practiced by teachers or students as they produce educational
materials.

Examples:
● Essay, Reflection Paper, Reaction Paper, Research Paper,
Thesis/Dissertation, Literature Review, or Lab Report.

Purpose of Writing Academic Paper

1. Informing - Academic writing aims to inform the readers about a specific topic or
subject matter. It presents facts, theories, and research findings in a clear and
organized manner.

2. Persuading - Academic writing often seeks to persuade the readers to accept a


particular argument, viewpoint, or interpretation. It uses evidence and logical
reasoning to convince the audience.

3. Analyzing - Academic writing involves analyzing information, data, or concepts to


draw meaningful conclusions. It requires critical thinking and evaluation of different
perspectives.

4. Demonstrating Knowledge - Academic writing demonstrates the author's


understanding and expertise in a particular field of study. It showcases the writer's
knowledge through well-researched and well-argued content.

5. Contributing to Knowledge - Academic writing contributes to the existing body of


knowledge by presenting new research findings, theories, or insights. It adds to the
scholarly conversation and advances the field.

6. Educating - Academic writing serves an educational purpose by helping readers


gain a deeper understanding of complex topics, theories, and concepts. It enhances
learning and promotes intellectual growth.

7. Building Communication Skills - Academic writing helps writers develop their


communication skills, including clarity, coherence, and precision in conveying
information effectively.
8. Citing Sources - Academic writing requires proper citation of sources to give
credit to the original authors and to uphold academic integrity. It involves referencing
scholarly works to support arguments and provide credibility to the content.

Professional writing
- is a type of writing that utilizes a formal style for the business setting.

Examples:
- Business letters, Emails, Reports, Newsletters, Memos, Press releases,
Meeting agendas, Resumes and Cover letters.

Purpose of Writing Professional Paper

1. Informing - Professional writing is often used to inform clients, customers,


colleagues, or stakeholders about important information, updates, procedures, or
policies within a business or organization.

2. Persuading - Professional writing aims to persuade readers to take a specific


action, make a decision, or support a particular idea or proposal. It may include
persuasive elements to influence the audience's opinions or behaviors.

3. Promoting - Professional writing is used for promotional purposes, such as


advertising, marketing materials, press releases, and sales proposals. It aims to
promote products, services, or events to attract customers and generate business.

4. Instructing - Professional writing includes instructional materials, manuals,


guides, and training documents that provide step-by-step instructions, explanations,
or guidance on how to perform tasks or use products effectively.

5. Reporting - Professional writing involves creating reports, summaries, analysis,


and evaluations to communicate findings, progress, or results to stakeholders,
clients, or supervisors. It conveys data and information in a structured and organized
format.

6. Networking - Professional writing is used for networking purposes, such as


writing emails, cover letters, resumes, and business correspondence to establish
and maintain professional relationships, seek opportunities, or communicate with
contacts.
7. Problem-Solving - Professional writing involves addressing issues, resolving
conflicts, and proposing solutions to problems through written communication. It
seeks to identify challenges and provide practical strategies for resolution.

8. Supporting Decision - Professional writing provides essential information,


analysis, and recommendations to support decision-making processes within an
organization. It helps stakeholders make informed choices based on reliable data
and insights.

4. Application//Values Integration

The teacher gives a 15-minute activity entitled “Venn Diagram” to test the learning
of the student.
Directions:
● The student will differentiate and find similarities between academic
writing and professional writing using venn diagrams. The teacher will
give five minutes to do the activity and after which, the teacher will call
the students randomly to share their outputs.

Academic Professional

The teacher will now be asking the students about the values they have
learned from the activity and the day’s lesson.

5. Assessment

The teacher administers the following test to assess the learning of the students
from the lesson presented. In a ½ sheet of paper, the students write their
answers.

In A4 bond paper, 12 font size, Times New Roman font, form a group
consisting of 3 members and make an acrostic about the ideal features of
academic writing and use the word ACADEMIC. On the other hand, make an
acrostic about the purpose of writing professional papers and use the word
PROFESSIONAL.
