Assignment – 1
Unit II
PROJECTION OF LINES

1. A line AB 80 mm long has its end A 20 mm above the HP and 30 mm in front of VP. It is
inclined at 30°to HP and 45° to VP. Draw the projections of the line and find apparent
lengths and apparent inclinations.

2. A line AB has its end A 20 mm above the HP and 15 mm in front of the VP. The other end
B is 60 mm above the HP and 45 mm in front of VP. The distance between end projectors
is 70 mm. draw its projections. Determine the apparent lengths and true inclinations.

3. The distance between the projections of two points A and B is 70 mm. Point A is 10 mm
above the HP and 15 mm in front of the VP. Point B is 50 mm above the HP and 40 mm
in front of the VP. Find the shortest distance between A and B by the rotating line method.
Measure the true inclinations of the line AB with the VP. and the HP. Also mark the traces.

4. The distance between the end projectors passing through the end points of a line AB is 60
mm. The end A is 15 mm above HP and 10 mm in front of VP. The end B is 35 mm in front
of VP. The line AB appears 70 mm long in the front view. Complete the projections. Find
the true length of the line and its inclinations with HP and VP. Also mark the traces.

5. The projection of a line measure 80 mm in the top view and 70 mm in the front view. The
mid-point of line is 45 mm in front of VP and 35 mm above HP. One end is 10 mm in front
of VP and nearer to it. The other end is nearer to HP. Draw the projection of the line. Find
true length and true inclinations with reference planes.

6. The top view of the line AB 80 mm long, measures 65 mm. The mid point of the line is 60
mm in front of VP and 70 mm above HP. The point A is in the VP. Draw its projections
and find its inclinations.

7. A line AB 100 mm long measures 80 mm in front view and 70 mm in top view the mid-
point M of the line is 40 mm from both HP and VP. Draw its projections. Find its
inclinations.

8. Draw the projections of a line PQ and find its true length and inclinations when the line is
inclined at 30° to the HP and 45°to the VP. The line is having one of its ends 15 mm above
HP and 20 mm in front of VP. The distance between the end projectors on the XY line is
60 mm.

PROJECTION PLANE SURFACE

1. A hexagonal lamina of side 30 mm rests on one of its edges on HP. This edge is parallel to
VP. The surface of the lamina is inclined 60° to HP. Draw its projections.

2. A regular pentagonal lamina ABCDE of side 30 mm has one of its edges parallel to the VP
and inclined at 30° to the HP. The pentagon is inclined 45° to the VP. Draw the projections.

3. A regular hexagonal lamina of 40 mm side is resting on one of its corner on HP. Its surface
is inclined at 45° to HP. The plan of the diagonal through the corner which is on HP makes
an angle of 40° with XY. Draw its projections.

4. A pentagon of side 30 mm rests on the ground on one of its corners with the sides
containing the corner being equally inclined to the ground. The side opposite to the corner
on which it rests is inclined at 30° to the VP and is parallel to the HP. The surface of the
pentagon makes 40° with the ground. Draw the top and front views of the pentagon.

5. Draw the projections of a circle of 70 mm diameter resting on the HP on a point A of the

circumference. The plane is inclined to the HP such that the top view of it is an ellipse of
minor axis 40 mm. The top view of the diameter, through the point A is making an angle
of 45° with the VP. Determine the inclination of the plane with the HP.

6. A hexagonal plate of side 30 mm is resting on one of its sides on VP and inclined at 40° to
HP. Its surface is inclined at 35° to VP. Draw its projections.

7. A square plate ABCD of side 30 mm is resting on HP on one of its corners and the diagonal
AC inclined at 45° to HP. The diagonal BD of the plate is inclined at 30° to the VP and
parallel to the HP. Draw its projections.

8. A circular plate of 60 mm diameter has a hexagonal hole of 20 mm sides centrally punched.

Draw the projections of the lamina resting on HP with its surface inclined at 45 degrees to
HP and the diameter through the point on which the lamina rests on HP is inclined at 30
degrees to VP. Any two parallel sides of the hexagonal hole are perpendicular to the
diameter of the circular plate on which it rests. Draw the projections.
