Criterion A –
Knowledge, The following criterion evaluates the student’s knowledge &
Understanding, understanding of the content & concepts presented in the literary
and Analysis text (graphic novel, film, novel, poems, etc.)
1 The composition provided is emerging with little knowledge &
understanding demonstrated related to the content/concepts
presented in the literary text. Knowledge & understanding may
have insufficient details, lack an explanation, and are
underdeveloped for content and concepts.
2 The composition provided is developing with basic knowledge &
understanding as claims are supported superficially with general,
underdeveloped details. Knowledge & understanding may also
lack precision in explanation.
3 The composition provided is developing to proficiency with
competent knowledge & understanding as claims are supported
with general, developed details. The explanation may require
further development or lack precision in explanation for the
content and concepts.
4 The composition provided is mostly proficient with effective
knowledge & understanding as claims are supported with specific
details that may contain direct references to the content.
Knowledge and understanding are mostly complete, developed,
and coherent; content/concepts are explained in detail.
5 The composition provided is competent with effective knowledge
& understanding as claims are supported with specific details that
contain direct references to the content. Knowledge and
understanding are complete, developed, and coherent;
content/concepts are well explained in detal.
6 The composition provided is extending with convincing
knowledge & understanding as claims are supported with
excellent specific details that are perceptive and insightful.
Knowledge and understanding are complete, developed, and
coherent. Potentially, the scope of knowledge & understanding of
the content/concepts extends beyond the prompt.
Criterion B – The following criterion evaluates the student’s skills of
Communication of communicating in English. Grammar/Spelling are vital
Language components to this strand; syntax, phrasing, word
choice, and clarity of sentences are also considered in
assessing of this strand.
1 The composition provided communicates
inappropriately as it does not communicate a response
in context for the given prompt. There are significant
errors in Spelling/Grammar that impedes understanding
of the response.
2 The composition provided communicates appropriately
for the context of the prompt. There are errors in
spelling/grammar that slightly impedes understanding
of the response.
3 The composition provided communicates appropriately
for the context of the prompt. There are errors in
spelling/grammar, but the response is mostly
coherent.
4 The composition provided mostly communicates
effectively and appropriately for the context of the
prompt. There are minor errors in spelling/grammar
present, but response is coherent.
5 The composition provided communicates effectively
and appropriately for the context of the prompt. There
are some minor errors in spelling/grammar present,
but response is clear.
6 The language of the composition provided is
sophisticated and communicates clearly and
appropriately for the context of the prompt. There may
be minor errors in spelling/grammar; however,
communication is lucid, precise, and completely
developed.
Criterion C - The following criterion evaluates the structure and

flows; errors are present but no meaning is lost.
