Sleeve 1. Sewing Instructions
Step 1: Sew a basting stitch along the bottom edge of the upper sleeve. Pull on the
thread to gather into the top edge of the lower sleeve. Next, with right sides of the
fabric together, pin the upper sleeve to the top of the lower sleeve and stitch in place.

Step 2: Sew a basting stitch on the lower sleeve where it’s marked “Gathering line”.
Pull on the thread to evenly distribute the gathers. With the right sides of the fabric
together, pin and sew the sleeve along the underarm seam.

Step 3: Measure and cut two strips of elastic for the upper sleeve and lower
sleeve gathering. Each piece of elastic should be measured to fit comfortably
around the muscle and wrist allowing for stretch.
Step 4: Use a straight stretch stitch sew the elastic to each section of gathering.
Stretch the elastic as you sew. This will ensure the fabric gathers evenly. Stitch
both ends of the elastic together and backstitch a few times to secure it in place.
Use a basting stitch to gather the cap of your sleeve before setting it in. Hem the
sleeve opening with a 1/2” rolled hem to finish.

Step 1: Sew a basting stitch along the gathering line of the upper sleeve and lower
sleeve ruffle. Pull on the thread to create the gathering. With the right sides of the
fabric together, pin and sew the upper sleeve and lower sleeve ruffle along the
underarm seam.

Step 2: Pin the lower ruffle to the upper sleeve. Make sure the right side of the fabric
on the lower ruffle is facing the wrong side of the upper sleeve. Sew the ruffle in place.
Measure and cut one strip of elastic for the sleeve gathering.

Step 3: Use a straight stretch stitch to sew the elastic to the section of gathering
on the wrong side of the fabric. Stretch the elastic as you sew. This will ensure the
fabric gathers evenly. Stitch both ends of the elastic together and backstitch a few
times to secure it in place. Use a basting stitch to gather the cap of your sleeve before
setting it in. Finish each layer of ruffle at the sleeve opening with a 1/2” rolled hem.

Step 1: Finish the edges of the lower sleeve ruffle with a 1/4” rolled hem all the way
around. Sew a basting stitch along the gathering line of the upper sleeve and lower
sleeve ruffle. Pull on the thread to create the gathering. Align the lower ruffle to the
center of the upper sleeve gathering where marked. Pin the ruffle 1/2” away from
the edges and baste stitch in place.

Step 2: . With the right sides of the fabric together, pin and sew the sleeve along
the underarm seam. Measure and cut one piece of elastic for the sleeve gathering.

Step 3: Use a straight stretch stitch sew the elastic to the section of gathering.
Stretch the elastic as you sew. This will ensure the fabric gathers evenly. Stitch
both ends of the elastic together and backstitch a few times to secure it in place.
Use a basting stitch to gather the cap of your sleeve before setting it in. Hem the
sleeve opening with a 1/2” rolled hem to finish.
Step 4: Making the bow: With the right sides of the fabric together, fold in half
and pin along the length. Stitch across one end then, down the length, leaving a 2”
opening in the center. Continue stitching down and across the other end. Trim the
seam allowance. Use a loop turner to turn the fabric right side out through the
opening at the center. Hand stitch the opening close. Once you tie your bow, hand
tack it to the center of your sleeve gathering.

Step 1: With the right sides of the fabric facing together, pin and stitch the
sleeve along the under arm seam.
Step 2: To create the casing for the cuff, turn and sew the sleeve opening with
a 1/2” hem all the way around. Leave a small 2” opening on the hem for inserting
the elastic. Measure and cut a strips of elastic for the wrist gathering . The elastic
should be measured to fit comfortably around the wrist allowing for stretch.

Step 3: Use a loop turner or safely pin to insert the elastic through the opening.
Make sure to secure one end of the elastic as you work it through the casing.
Use a zig-zag stitch to secure both ends of the elastic together.
Hand stitch the opening closed to finish the cuff.
Step 4: Stretch the cuff opening a few times to evenly distribute the gathering.
Use a basting stitch to sew and gather the cap of your sleeve before setting it in.
