"You are at the culmination... The world’s parabola, descending to-
wards the end, will not be so long as the ascending one. It will be a
plunge into the end... Pride and malice, in addition to dragging you into
the descending parabola, obscure your spirits to such a point, that they
‘make you increasingly unable to halt the descent by sincere repent-
ance... So what have you made of My coming?" (Page 4)

1PART ONE: THE BUILD-UP
A Translator’s Preface
(Below [s.an extract from the Preface to Notebooks 1943, by the trans-
lator to English of a number of Maria Vatorta's original Jtalian volumes.)
‘These warks contain numerous passages with an explicitly prophetic
-coitent dealing, for example, with impending ecological imbalances in the
‘world, blaody conflicts, and the apacalyptis battle between Good and Evil
as presented not only in the Book of Revelatian, but in terms of new appli
cations of passages contained in the Old Testamant prophets. « compre-
hensive vision of the Last Times is thus provided, with particular reference
to the mission of the Vicar of Christ and of all convinced Christians. in
conveying the Redesmers life and teachings, and in sharing his human
and heavenly destiny - both sufferings and gionification - to the full
‘One of the keynotes of these texts is the fusion of Christ's forcefulaess
affirming his Divine Sonshia and unique rola, in time and eterity, with
his fendemess in approaching troubled souls and patiently seeking to
raise them to faith, hope, and love through his selt-sacrificing humility and
their cooperation. He repeatedly insists on the need for all believers - and
feligious attitudes themselves -to be putlied and freed from dross, espe-
cially in the eage of priests, vho are responsible for the wellare of many
souls and who must, therefore, be Christike in their action. Love and
pain, when joined to Christ in deep personal prayer, are the two wings
‘enabling lowly mankind to taka fight towards union with the Holy Trinity.
‘The presence of Mary also forms part of this work, sometimes by way
of teachings and intimate confidences about Her life with heist, and, an
eceasion, in special contemplations of Her holiness and supernatural ma-
tarrity
The Holy Spirit, brisfly but emphatically, manitests Himself as dynamic
Love in Person, clasping the Father and the Son in a single ombrace and
acting throughout creation
These Notebooks belong to a calegory of mystical literature whieh the
Cathotic Church has long been familiar with: that of so-called "private rev-
lations", 4 private revelation is not binding for the faith of Christians, but
its value is to be measured by its capacity to instruct and inflame souls,
spurring them to lave God more, and to apply divine teachings to thair
everyday lives,

“Therefore, listen to the word of the Lord, O mockers, the leaders of
‘my people that is in Jerusalem. You have said, "We have made an alll
ance with death; we have toned a pact with’ hell; when the scourges
pass by, they wil not come upon us, for we have placed our hopes in de-
Cail, and by deceit we are protected. ”*
“Your allanee with death shall be destroyed; your pact with hell shall

you away with it" And only the exhaustion will make you learn the lesson.
™So then, do not mack, so that your chains will not be tighter.”
"Woe to you thal hide yourselves ln your hearts to conceal thelr de-
signs from the Lord! They do their works in darkness and say, "Whe sees
Us Who recognizes us?" This thought of yours is perverse.
“Woe to you, children that desert and conceive designs - but without
Me - and weave a cleth which is not according to My spirit, and pile up sin

"Therefore, this is whal the Holy One of Israel says: Since you have
disdained this word and have hoped in slander and turmoil and grounded
yourselves on these things, this iniquity shall be for yau like a ruinous,
imperceptible breach in a high well which suddenly - whan ne ane imagi-

horses and trust in chariats - for they are numeraus - and in cavalryenen
who are exceedingly vigorous, and have nat placed their trust in the Holy
One. They have nat saught the Lord.”
