Management
The term environment is coined from the French word ‘environia,’ which means to surround. The
environment includes all the living and non-living components close to us and with whom we
have daily interactions which are necessary for our survival.
It is the area in which we operate and includes all elements of nature. Organisms, including
human beings, interact with the components of their environment to sustain life.
All organisms are highly dependent on their environments for food, water, and stable living
conditions. Therefore, organisms need to manage the environment that they live in.
Environmental management involves environmental protection and sustainability, wildlife
management, forest management, soil management, human resource management, water resource
management, natural resource management, etc.
Environmental management also includes the components of the biophysical environment and the
human environment, like the social, cultural, political, and economic environments.

COURSE CODE :21CV754 COURSE TITLE: Intelligent Transportation System

ITS is an evolving scientific and engineering discipline whose primary goal is to minimize the
travel time of all travelers and merchandise while ensuring safety, through fair distribution of
available resources, especially under the scenario of increasing travel speeds, a significantly large
number of travelers, and a high demand for precise and timely information by travelers. To
achieve its goal, ITS must bring about a seamless and natural integration of the different modes of
transportation, including vehicular traffic, trains, cargo air transport, passenger air transport,
marine ferries, and others through asynchronous distributed control and coordination algorithms,
subject to social norms, policies, and guidelines. As a result of the integration, the traveler will
gain access to accurate status information of any transportation mode from any point in the
system, compute the most efficient route or reroute across all different transportation modes by
processing the available information through personalized decision aids, and be permitted to
effect reservations, dynamically, even while en route, on any transportation system. ITS
encompasses the subareas of transportation management, which subsumes interstate roadways
management and traffic signalling; travel management, which includes multimodal traveller
information; public transportation and transit management; safety management, which subsumes
incidents, railroad grade crossings, and emergency services; advanced vehicle control; and fare
payment and toll collection.

(7th SEMESTER)

No of sections
Sl. No COURSE CODE COURSE TITLE (approximately
75/section)
1 21EE752 ELECTRIC VEHICLES 2

COURSE CODE :21EE752 COURSE TITLE: ELECTRIC VEHICLES

BRIEF DESCRIPTION ABOUT THE SUBJECT

An electric vehicle (EV) is a vehicle that uses one or more electric motors for propulsion. The
vehicle can be powered by a collector system, with electricity from extravehicular sources, or
can be powered autonomously by a battery or by converting fuel to electricity using
a generator or fuel cells.
EVs include road and rail vehicles, electric boats and underwater vessels, electric
aircraft and electric spacecraft.
Many governments offer incentives to promote the use of electric vehicles, with the goals of
reducing air pollution and oil consumption. Some incentives intend to increase purchases of
electric vehicles by offsetting the purchase price with a grant. Other incentives include lower tax
rates or exemption from certain taxes, and investment in charging infrastructure.
By reducing types of air pollution, such as nitrogen dioxide, EVs could prevent hundreds of
thousands of early deaths every year, especially from trucks and traffic in cities.
The full environmental impact of electric vehicles includes the life cycle impacts of carbon and
sulfur emissions, as well as toxic metals entering the environment.

Course objectives: (1) To Understand the fundamental laws and vehicle mechanics.
(2)To Understand working of Electric Vehicles and recent trends.
(3)Ability to analyze different power converter topology used for electric vehicle application.
(4)Ability to develop the electric propulsion unit and its control for application of electric
vehicles.

Course outcome (Course Skill Set) At the end of the course the student will be able to : (1)
Explain the roadway fundamentals, laws of motion, vehicle mechanics and propulsion system
design.
(2)Explain the working of electric vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles in recent trends.
(3)Model batteries, Fuel cells, PEMFC and super capacitors.
(4)Analyze DC and AC drive topologies used for electric vehicle application.
(5)Develop the electric propulsion unit and its control for application of electric vehicles.

1 21ME751 Non-Traditional Machining 3

2 21ME752 Hydraulics and Pneumatics 1

COURSE CODE :21ME751 COURSE TITLE:Non-Traditional Machining

BRIEF DESCRIPTION ABOUT THE SUBJECT

Non-traditional machining (NTM) is a modern machining method that uses energy sources other
than cutting tools to remove, deform, or change properties of materials. NTM processes are also
known as advanced manufacturing processes and can be mechanical, electrical, thermal, or
chemical. They are often used when traditional machining is not feasible, such as when the
material is too hard, flexible, or difficult to clamp, or when the part shape is complex. NTM
processes can machine intricate shapes and deep holes, and they are not limited by the hardness
of the material.

Some examples of NTM processes include:

 Electrical discharge machining (EDM): Uses electrical discharges to shape and remove
material
 Laser cutting: Uses laser beams to shape and remove material
 Abrasive jet machining: Uses a jet of abrasive material at high velocity and pressure to
deburr, etch, and clean hard and brittle materials
 Plasma arc machining (PAM): Uses a high-velocity jet of heated gas to melt and remove
material
COURSE CODE :21ME752 COURSE TITLE:Hydraulics and Pneumatics
BRIEF DESCRIPTION ABOUT THE SUBJECT

Hydraulics and pneumatics are both fluid power circuits that use pressurized fluids to transmit
forces and channel mechanical energy:
 Hydraulics

Uses incompressible fluids like oil or water to transmit forces. Hydraulic systems are often
used for heavy-duty tasks, such as in aircraft landing gear and braking systems, lifting
equipment, and hydraulic presses. However, hydraulic systems are more expensive to install
and maintain than pneumatic systems.
 Pneumatics
Uses compressible fluids like air or gases to transmit forces. Pneumatic systems are often
used for lower pressure needs, shock absorption, and applications that require speed, such as
factory automation and packaging. Pneumatic systems are also more environmentally
friendly than hydraulic systems because they only leak air, not oil.

Both hydraulic and pneumatic systems use pumps and valves to control force and velocity. When
choosing between the two systems, you can consider factors like cost, the materials you need to
move, and the space and resources you have available.

infrastructure building, etc. in Indian context and also explain to what extent – different aspects of
e-waste management have been incorporated in the existing regulatory framework in comparison
with international legislatures.
4. Identify and infer pan-Indian initiatives dealing with e-waste management, ranging from
building knowledge base through research and social action by different stakeholders to
technological and legal advancements, and industrial initiatives. Analyse roadmap for the Agenda
2030.
5. Use opportunities and challenges around four domains: legal and judicial domain; economic
concerns; recycling culture/society; and environment concerns.
