ANTHROPOLOGY
Anthropology is the study of human biology, cultures, language, and society in
both the past and present. In the “MELC”, anthropology has two sub-fields, social
anthropology, and cultural anthropology.
Anthropology provides a unique perspective on culture and society, offering
insights into the complexities of human behavior and interaction. Its focus on social
justice has contributed to a more inclusive and understanding society (Beagan Brenda,
2003). Anthropology also plays an important role when it comes to addressing social and
cultural issues by researching and providing recommendations which have helped raise
awareness to social and cultural issues.
SOCIOLOGY
While anthropology is a study about characteristics, environment, human
behavior and culture on an individual level, sociology is the study of group behaviors on
a mass level.
Sociology tells us that the social world guides our life choices much like how most
people follow trends. This influence shapes our behaviors, values, and even our
identities, showing the large impact of societal norms. The basic point is that society
shapes our attitudes and behavior.
POLITICAL SCIENCE
Political science is the study of government and politics at a local, state, national
and international levels. It focuses on the general idea of power. According to the “MELC”
there are two subfields of political science: Domestic politics, Comparative politics,
international relations, and political theory.
Political science tells us about one of the most powerful forces operating on
people, communities, and corporations today. It is the very rules and restrictions that
control society. According to an article by Bay Atlantic University (2021) “One of the
most important ways political science affects us is by helping set the rights and rules we
have to live by as citizens. Whenever a new government is elected, they have the power
to make decisions for us based on our necessities and requirements”.
