2024 Minnesota State Fair 4-H Beef Championship


Show

St. Paul, MN (8/24/24) - There were a total of 572 beef cattle shown at the 2024 Minnesota
4-H Beef Show. The 4-H Beef show was held August 22nd-24th at the Minnesota State Fair.
The beef show judge was Parker Henley of Stillwater, Oklahoma. The dairy steer and dairy
steer showmanship judge was Lindsey Noll of Fort Wayne, Indiana.

The Supreme Champion Market Beef was shown by Danica Prins of Murray County and
was the Champion Division III Crossbred Steer. Maria Hegland of Dakota County took
Reserve Champion with a Division III Crossbred Steer. Jorja Holm of Murray County took
third overall in market beef with the Champion Chianina Steer. Fourth overall market beef was
shown by Charles Friemann of Washington County with the Champion Division II Crossbred
Steer. The fifth overall market beef was shown by Andrew Revier of Renville County, with
the Reserve Champion Division II Crossbred Steer.

The Grand Champion Dairy Steer was shown by Lawson Jax of Mower County, the steer
was the champion from Division III. The Reserve Champion was the champion steer from
Division II and was shown by Kyle Stensland of Goodhue County.

The Supreme Champion Breeding Heifer was exhibited by Nolan Hackett of Benton County
and was the Champion Chianina Heifer. Paisley Olson of Douglas County took Reserve
Overall Champion Breeding Heifer with the Champion Simmental Heifer. The third overall
breeding heifer was shown by Brandon Thome of Mower County with the Champion
Foundation Simmental Heifer. Max Fredrickson of Freeborn County took fourth overall with
the Champion Black Angus Heifer. The fifth overall breeding heifer was shown by Brooke
Polzin of Meeker County with the Reserve Champion Foundation Simmental Heifer.

The Supreme Champion Cow/Calf was shown by Jaxon Hilbrands of Stevens County with
the Champion Simmental Cow/Calf Pair. Macy Rohner of Kandiyohi County took overall
Reserve Champion with the Champion Commercial Cow/Calf Pair. Third Overall was shown
by Clare Landrum from Rice County who had the Champion Black Angus Cow/Calf pair.

The Grand Champion Prospect Calf was shown by Ava Resler of Steele County with the
Champion Prospect Heifer Calf. Mya Pesek of Yellow Medicine County took overall Reserve
Champion Prospect Calf with the Champion Prospect Steer Calf.

The showmanship competition held on Aug. 24, 2024 at the Minnesota State Fair, is based on
the 4-Her’s knowledge of beef production, grooming skills and handling techniques. Because
of a large number of participants in the beef projects, some of the age groups were split into
multiple classes. The judge for the beef showmanship contest was Ashley Recknor of Britt,
Iowa.

This year in the prospect calf and cow/calf the showmanship results were: Champion
Intermediate Rita Thesing of Dakota County, Champion Senior Jaxon Hilbrands of Stevens
County. The beef heifer showmanship results were:Champion Intermediate Weston Hawkins
of Pope County and Champion Senior Nolan Hackett of Benton County. The market beef
showmanship results were: Champion Intermediate Jorja Holm of Murray County and
Champion Senior Emma Gillis of Steele County. The dairy steer showmanship results were:
Champion Intermediate Daniel Gunderson of Morrison County and Champion Senior
Mitchell Olson of Sibley County.

In addition to a quality animal, 4-H youth must demonstrate their knowledge about the beef
industry. 4-H’ers learn important development and leadership skills throughout their
involvement with their projects and communities. Use the “Locate Entries and Results” links for

division/show for specific story needs.
