Pointers to review in EAPP

 Academic text
Academic Text-A type of text or writing that is written by professionals in a given field and
is also intended for scholarly audience

 Academic Discipline
Academic discipline-are known to have their own culture which affects teaching,
learning, research and assessment as well as way of thinking. These disciplines are as
follows: Business, Humanities, Natural and Applied Sciences, Social sciences, Art etc.
 Example:
Information and communication technologies have provided the society with a vast array
of new communication capabilities such as instant messaging, voice over IP and video
conferencing. The academic discipline being describe here is ICT
 Academic Language
What word can be replaced to make it formal?

 Reading comprehension : Getting the main idea of the paragraph


 What is a good thesis statement?
 Outlining text (Application of outlining .A selection/excerpt will be given)
 Reaction paper
 What is needed in Objective assessment
 Importance of writing a critique
 Parts of critique paper (What is written for these parts?: Introduction, Body, Conclusion)
 Formalism approach
 Feminist approach
 Ways to elucidate concept: excerpt/selection were given and identify if its: Definition,
Explication, Cause and Effect, Classification
Remember:
Definition- making something definite, distinct, or clear. What does it mean?

Explication- the process of analyzing and developing an idea or principle in detail.


"this term is meaningless without further explication and analysis"
the process of analyzing a literary work in order to reveal its meaning.
"careful reading and explication of texts"

Classification -sorts information into groups that share similar characteristics.


Compare/Contrast-Shows similarities and differences between ideas, objects, concepts,
etc.
Cause/Effect-Cause tells why something happened. Effect is the result of the cause.

 Purpose of concept paper

 Type of Concept paper:


1.Project proposal- used to present the general plan and justification to pursue a project
2.Research proposal- Present the nature and extent of a planned or future research
3.Advertising concept paper- discusses creative advertising campaign, approach theme,
sales and other company aspects
 Determine each concept paper title to the types of concept paper (Title and concepts
will be explained)
 Parts of research proposal
 Understanding an appropriate visual/graphic aid that can be used in presenting concepts
like: Chart, pie graph, bar graph and venn diagram
