Waste Management Plan

Revision 00

Purpose
The purpose of this waste management strategy was developed to provide guidance and requirements
necessary for efficient, effective and compliant waste management during construction and operations.

Scope
This procedure applies to all ANJ employees. When work is performed on a non-owned or operated site, the
operator’s program shall take precedence, however, this document covers ANJ employees and contractors and
shall be used on owned premises, or when an operator’s program doesn’t exist or is less stringent.

Procedure
The ANJ Project Manager/ HSE Manager or other designated person in his or her absence is accountable for
managing waste and disposition of wastes generated at the work site.

Waste Estimation
Each work site will estimate the waste, trash and/or scrap that will be generated and taken into consideration
prior to work being performed so the need for containers and waste removal, if necessary, can be determined.

Each site will utilize the following for planning of dumpster scheduling and total non-hazardous dry waste
material. These figures do not include neither recycling nor waste minimization efforts and reflect no use of an
incinerator.

Waste Estimates

[This section of the plan is used to record estimated of the waste that will be collected and its intended use.]

6. Waste Management
Disposal of Hazardous Waste:

1. All hazardous waste containers are to be provided with a label.

2. Hazardous Waste shall be disposed to authorize vendor after approval from PMC OR CLIENT and all
the records kept.

Disposal of Non Hazardous Waste:

1. All wastage shall be segregated and kept in designated waste disposal yard.
2. All such material shall be regularly disposed and record shall be kept.
3. Address safe practices related to the immediate storage and handling of waste, scrap or leftover
material.
4. The handling, organization and storage of waste and scrap materials to minimize potential impact to the
environment. Waste materials shall be properly stored and handled to minimize the potential for a spill
or impact to the environment. During outdoor activities receptacles must be covered to prevent
dispersion of waste materials and to control the potential for runoff.

Waste Segregation
1. Blue – Paper, Plastic
2. Green – Wet Waste
3. Yellow - Hazardous

disposal yard.
2. Iron Scrap and other
construction debris. 2. All such material shall be
regularly disposed.

3. Minimize generation of waste.

2. Soil contamination. points mentioned in MSDS shall be
translated in Hindi or the local
language.

2. Spillage shall be avoided by

effective storage and usage of spill
trays,
3. Disposal of the oil contaminated
material will be carried. Usage of
necessary PPE shall be followed.

8. Classification of waste streams

Classifying wastes into groups that pose similar risks to the environment and human health facilitates their
management and appropriate disposal. Six waste classes are used: „

 Liquid waste
 Hazardous waste
 Restricted solid waste
 General solid waste

Where waste cannot be avoided, reused or recycled it will be classified and appropriately disposed of. The
classification of waste is based on the Waste Classification Guidelines PMC OR CLIENT The guideline outlines
how to assess waste, waste classification and sets out management options for the disposal of classified
waste.

Environmental Risk Assessment

A risk assessment has been undertaken in accordance with ANJ Safety, Health & Environmental Guideline the
following points summaries the key activities identified in the risk assessment relevant to waste

1. Littler (e.g. Food waste, packaging) from site amenities reaching local waterways.
2. Leakage of toner cartridges.
3. Leakage of effluent from site amenities.
4. Excessive use of water resources.
5. Excess packaging material deliveries increasing waste generated
6. Inappropriate disposal of waste items which may be hazardous.
7. Fuel and oil spills during plant and equipment maintenance and the associated disposal of contaminated
material.
8. The location and storage of waste on site prior to disposal.

9. Environmental Control Measures and Procedures

The following environmental control measures and safeguards will be implemented in order to minimise waste

generated during with construction of the Project;

1. Waste management and Minimization will form part of the induction program (which includes environmental due
diligence training). All Project and site personnel will be trained in the requirements of this document including
minimising wastes, recognising which types of materials are recyclable and their obligations to use recycling
facilities provided.
2. Specific locations for waste management (e.g. sorting area locations, recycling bin locations, material
stockpile locations) will be established on site.
3. Waste management areas will be adequately managed to prevent sediment runoff and dust generation.
4. Packaging minimisation and reuse initiatives will be implemented as part of the procurement.
5. Segregated waste disposal containers for the collection and recycling/disposal of all waste streams
generated during the construction works will be provided onsite. Waste disposal containers will have
clear signage and instructions for use to avoid cross-contamination. No rubbish shall be disposed of on
site.
6. Waste will be disposed to an appropriate licensed facility. A Waste Management Register of all waste
collected for disposal and / recycling, including amounts, data and time and details and location of
disposal will be maintained at all times.
7. All waste being transported off site must be covered. The transportation must be appropriately licensed
to carry that material.

10.Training
All employees, Sub-contractors and utility staff working on site will undergo site induction training (which
includes environmental due diligence training) and environmental training in relation to waste management
issues. The induction will address:

 This management plan.

 Relevant legislation.
 Waste minimization.
 Waste recognition and recycling.
 Available recycling facilities.
 Energy and water minimization measures

Records would be kept of all personnel undertaking the site induction and training, including the contents of the
training, date and name of trainer/s. Key staff will undertake more comprehensive training relevant to their
position and/or responsibility.

This training may be provided as “toolbox” training or specific training tailored by the EHSO. Further details
regarding the content of staff induction and training are outlined in the ANJ .

11.Review and Improvement of the SWMP

 The effectiveness and proper implementation of the SWMP will be reviewed by ANJ every month or
sooner as necessary. Review will be undertaken by the management team. The review will comprise:
 Reviewing the results of audits.
 Evaluation of the system, which improvements and corrective actions will be sought.

12. Continual Improvement

Continual improvement of the SWMP will be achieved by the continual evaluation of environmental
management performance against environmental policies, objectives and targets for the purpose of identifying
opportunities for improvement. The continual improvement process will:

At least monthly:

− Review monitoring results and identify areas of opportunity for improvement of environmental management
which leads to improved environmental performance.

At least 15 days/once (or as incidents / non‐conformances occur):

− Determine the root cause or causes of non‐conformances and deficiencies.

− Develop and implement a plan of corrective and preventative action to address non‐conformances and
deficiencies.

− Verify the effectiveness of the corrective and preventative actions. Outcomes of these reviews shall be
documented and retained for the duration of the project.
