MEMNTUANCE AND REPATR INSTRUCTIONS
¥-200 HYDROMATIC BRAKE
Typtcal Assembly 063952-X
‘hen a Hydromattc Brake is taken out of service for any period of tine, a
surplus quantity of No, 2-vaterproof grease should be pumped into all of
the grease fittings to aasure that all water in the seale and bearings will
be purged from those areas. It is advisable to £111 the brake wich "lubri-
cating oll", 1€ dt 18 to be taken out of service for a prolonged period.
‘This will prevent che fomation of rust and ecale within the brake.
Part numbers given in these instructions are referred to as {ten nuabers,
land correspond to those used on the attached parts List and asseably
raving.
‘These instructions apply to a number of similar ¥-200 lydronatic Brake
jenblies, all of which are typified by the drawing of Assenbly D53952-x.
then ordering parte, alvaye give assembly number and serial number vhich
are stanped on the lane Plate (32) of the Hydrematic Brake.
NOTE: A - Princtpal differences betucen the Typical Assenbly D63952-X
and sinilar assemblies are in shaft extensions and direction
‘Of rotation "TO BRAKE" fron extended shaft side.
2 - Most sinitar assembles have the shaft extension on one side
only (Like the Typical Assembly), although the dleneter of
the shaft extension and ite length may vary. A few simtlar
aceenblies have the shaft extended on both stdes.
© = Sone similar assemblies are equipped with apectal cover plates
fon one or both sides to meet specific requirements.
For any repate Job, disassenbly should proceed only to the point permitting
replacement of damaged part or parts.
[ALL disassembly and assembly procedures should be undertaken with the shaft
fof the Hydronatic Brake vertical.
Te will bernoted chat No, 1 Permatex (31) is used as @ sealing conpound on
sone jotnte ia this assembly. whenever auch @ joint ts broken in dis
jenbly, both surfaces comprising the Joint must be scraped free of
hardened’ Permatex (51), washed with solvent, and thoroughly dried before
being reassembled with new Permatex (31). The coating should be evenly
applied and alloved to alr dry about Five minutes before being made up.id

‘Ag dlaszsenbly proceeds, the various parts renoved should be thoroughly
cleaned, wrapped, and stored.
Te ts suggested that all "O" Ringe and gaskets renoved during dlsassenbly
be replaced by new ones. Since even a minor cut or nick on an "O" Ring
can produce fatlure, it te very important thet extrene care be exercised
in the reaseonbly of parce vith "0" Rings 29 component:

For Replacenent of Bearings And/Or Seale
Renove eight esp screws (17) and slide bearing adjusting plate (23) over
fend of share (1).
Shim set (22) exposed by operation 2.1 should be kept with bearing retainer
plate (23) renoved.
Remove eight cep screvs (17) and insert two 3/4" dia. x 6" long jack screws
into the two tapped puller holes provided in the bearing adapter (20).
(the jack screw holes are in che outer bolt circle.) Draw up evenly on
these two gevewa to draw Bearing Adepeer (20) out of the bore of weater

Wore: A - Seale (19) and the cup of bearing (21) vill renain in the
hearing adapter (20) and be renoved with i.
Apply heat to cone of bearing (21) and renove from its seat on shaft (1).
NOTE: A - Tf bearing (21) 42 not to be replaced, it should be left un-
Aisturbed fron its seat on shaft (1) as renoval of Lt will
render it unfit for further service.
Remove seals (19) from bearing adapter (20) by placing the bearing adapter
(20) seat end down, on parallels to provide about 2-1/0" clearance between
the end of bearing adapter (20) and the york bench. Using a punch, screw
driver, or similar tool, vorking froa the bearing bore end of bearing
adapter (20), to drive seals (19) out of bearing adapter (20).
NOTE: A - If seals (19) are not to be replaced, do not renove then
fron bearing adapter (20) as removal’ will distort the seal
cases and eleneats and render then unfit for further service.
Remove retaining ring (7).
To replace sleeve (6) without completely disassenbling the lydromattc Brake
Gaze a2 per Section 3, will require the aid of @ puller. Two 9/16" slots
are provided at the back edge of sleeve (6) for this purpose. Use a
puller that will fir into the slots, at the back edge of sleeve (6), end
renove sleeve (6) from its seat on shaft (1).29

ide completely reassembled per Section before turning the
Rydromatie Brake over to effect the disassembly of the other
side.
B= If the Hydromattc Brake is to be further or completely dis-
assembled, turn the Hydronatle Brake over and disassenble

case haa not been completely disassenbled, pet Section 3, and reassembled
per Section 4, it will be necessary to install sleave (6) and "0" Ring (5)
at this tine,” Refer to Paragraph 4.6 for installation procedures.
Press seals (19) into place {n bearing adapter (20), paying particular
attention to the divection of the sealing lip. (Refer to Typical Assenbly
Drawing D63952-X.)
NOTE: A ~ Take every precaution to avold damaging or distorting the
seal ease in this procedure, Alvays use a flar steel plate
to distribute pressure evenly. A light coating of of on
seal case will aid in seal installation.
Wipe around Lips of both installed seals (19) with a emall quantity of No.

The rotor (2) must be properly centered botween the stators (9) and (10),
therefore, the following procedures must be performed vith accuracy.

Lubrication
Lvbrieation {astructions are included on the nane plate of the Hydronatic
Brake, but they will be repeated here for conventeace.
When in use, the seals (19) in the Hydronatic Brake should be Lubricated
before and after each round trip with several strokes of the greese con-
pressor through grease fitting (26). The roller bearing (21) should alco
be lubricated before and after each round trip, through grease Fitting
(24), with two or three strokes of the greace compressor- Use No. 2

@.
After repatrs have been made to a Hydronatic Brake that entails the removal
of the stale (19) and/or bearings (21), it 1s important that a quffictent
quantity of grease be pumped into both bearings (21) and seals (19) to
