Rosh HaShanah
Head of the Year
Israels fall calendar begins on the frst day
of .:: ::: , HaChodesh HaShviyiy (the
seventh month) with the day known in Juda-
ism as the Jewish New Year, .: :s,
Rosh HaShanah.
Scripture, while not indicating that
this day begins a new year, instead says it is
for .~ :, zikron truah (Leviticus
23:24)remembering with loud blasts [of
sound]. What Israel is to remember and with
what manner of sound, Scripture doesnt say.
Neverthless it is .~ :, Yom Truah
(Numbers 29:1), a Day of Loud Blasts [of
Sound], marking the beginning of an exciting
season.
According to Joshua chapter 6, .~,
truah was the shouting sound that Joshuas
army made after being prompted by the
e:, shofar (rams horn), just before the walls
of Jericho fell. Tis may be the source of the
Jewish tradition of blowing the e:, shofar
on this day. As believers in .:, Yeshua, we

Day of Atonement
Ten days after Yom Truah comes
the years holiest day, traditionally known as

HaKipuriymthe Day of the Atonements
named for the multiple atonements assigned
for :. :, HaKohen HaGadol (the
High Priest) to make.

the only annual holy day that is also a
-:: -::, Shabat Shabaton (a Sabbath of
complete rest, Leviticus 23:32), during which
time the people of Israel are commanded to
deny themselvestraditionally understood as
fasting. According to Scripture, the people of
Israel could not afect their own atonement, but
had to rely completely on the high priest.
