Chapter 2 Comparing and Ordering Numbers

Learning abilities: After completing this chapter, students will be able to:

 Compare numbers.
 Order numbers.
 Understand the concept of place value.

2.1 Comparing Two Numbers


Learning abilities:
 Comparing two groups of items based on their quantity.

Activity 2.1 Look at the quantities of the picture given next to A,


B, and C and compare the right side items with the left side items.

Focus
 On the number line, the numbers at the left side less than
the numbers at the right side.

“0<1, 1<2, 2<3, 3<4, 4<5, 5<6, 6<7, 8<9, 9<10”


“<” this is less than sign.
“>” this is greater than sign.
“=” this is equal sign.
Example;
“0 < 1” because on the number line 0 is located at the left side of 1.
“1< 2” because on the number line 1 is located at the left side of 2.
