Title: Exploring the PathFit Curriculum
Instructions: Please use this research format to explore and provide
insights into the PathFit Curriculum. You may use credible sources, class
materials, or any other relevant information to complete this research
assignment.
Part 1: Introduction
1. Define PathFit Curriculum: Provide a concise definition of the PathFit
Curriculum. What is its primary focus and purpose in the context of
health and fitness education?
PATHFIT stands for Physical Activities Towards Health and Fitness Courses
(CMO No. 39, s. of 2021). As per the rationale of the Policies, Standards and
Guidelines of Tertiary Physical Education: PATHFIT, it is an enhancement of
Basic Education Curriculum (K to 12) per 10533 and it is different from the
Health Optimizing Physical Education (H.O.P.E.) for Senior High School (Grade
11 to 12). It is the Tertiary PE program created for every person with its goal
to foster an accessible opportunities to all learners. It also recognizes that
well-being extends beyond just physical fitness and rather includes mental
and spiritual aspects. This holistic perspective acknowledges that one’s
mental and emotional state, as well as their spiritual inner being, are integral
components of overall health and fitness.
Part 2: Key Components
2. Core Principles: Identify and explain the core principles that underpin
the PathFit Curriculum. How do these principles contribute to a holistic
approach to wellness?
Here are the different core principles that underpin the PathFit Curriculum.
(1) Overload, in order to progress and improve our fitness, we have to put
our bodies under additional stress. We have to increase the number of times
we exercise/train per week, increase the difficulty, increase the length of
time/duration that you are training or performing exercise for each session,
and most importantly increase the difficulty of activity you are doing. (2)
Specicificity, this principle relates to the type of training that you do. The
activity or training that you will perform should be specific to you and your
sport. (3) Reversibility, basically don stop. If you stop the improvements that
you’ve made will be reversed. (4) Variance, try to perform different set of
activities or exercises. By applying these core principles, students of PathFit
can create a well-roudned approach to health and well-being that goes
beyond physical fitness. It acknowledges the interconnectedness of the
different dimensions of health by maintaining interest and motivation in
achieving fitness.
3. Assessment Methods: Describe the assessment methods used in the
PathFit Curriculum. What types of assessments are conducted, and why
are they important in this curriculum?
PathFit curriculum fosters accessible opportunities to all learners, it promotes
inclusivity and even in assessing student’s learning they conduct different
types of assessment methods. Pathfit curriculum recognizes that students
have varied learning styles and strengths, some students may excel in
written, while others may perform better through verbal communication or
performances. PathFit Curicullum conducts formative, summative, and
performance/criterion referenced assessment. Conducting these type of
assessments are important because it will allow teachers to gain more
comprehensive understanding of student’s knowledge and skills.
4. Personalization: Discuss the concept of personalization within the
PathFit Curriculum. How does it cater to individual needs and goals in
fitness planning?
The concept of Personalization within PathFit increases the probability in
achieving student’s individual needs and goals in terms of fitness. This
concept can assess student’s needs and takes into account various factors to
help create an efficient fitness plan.
Part 3: Application
5. Creating Fitness Plans: Explain how the PathFit Curriculum guides
the creation of personalized fitness plans. Provide an example or
scenario of how this is implemented.
Pathfit Curriculum guides students into the creation of personalized fitness
plan to meet the students’ unique needs, goals, and abilities. The process
begin with an assessment of individual’s current fitness level, health status
and goal. Based on the assessment, fitness goals are set in collaboration
between the teacher and student. These goals are designed to align with
their needs. Then, a personalized fitness plan is developed considering the
student’s goal, preference, and fitness level.
Example: Student A, a student from NEUST, undergo physical fitness
assessment. After the assessment, Student A find out that he is overweight
and weak in some components because of sedentary lifestyle. Student A goal
are set as follows: lose weight, improve her cardiovascular endurance,
strength, and power, and incorporate some indoor and outdoor activities like
playing badminton, and cycling in his routine. To set Student A fitness plan, a
combination of indoor and outdoor activities like badminton and cycling for
cardiovascular endurance and power training and to lose weight, strength
training exercises like weightlifting to build muscles. The fitness plan is
designed for him to start with moderate-intensity workouts and gradually
increase intensity and duration over time.
6. Nutrition Integration: Describe how nutrition is integrated into the
PathFit Curriculum. Why is this integration important for overall health
and fitness?
Nutrition is important to integrate into the PathFit Curriculum to support the
individual or student’s fitness goals. When nutrition is integrated,
maintaining a balanced diet, portion control, what to eat, when to eat, and
how much to eat is also considered. According to Leal, D (2022) on her
article entitled Nutrition’s Role in Physical Fitness: Why You Need to Consider
Both, “What we eat and before and after exercise, as well as on a regular
basis, can make a large difference in how we feel and how we perform during
activity.” Proper fueling before, during, and after workouts can lead to better
results, improve recovery and reduced risk of injury. Proper diet directly
impacts an individual’s energy levels. Integrating nutritional
recommendations helps participants to make informed choices that align
with their fitness objectives.
7. Mental Well-being: Discuss any elements of mental well-being or
stress management included in the curriculum. How does it promote a
holistic approach to wellness?
The informal nature of physical education activities offers opportunities for
the development of high level of self-esteem. It is believed that our bodies
and minds are not separate. Our physical health, mental health, and
emotional health and other dimensions of health are interconnected with
each other, so our mental health can affect our body. Teaching coping
strategies PathFit students such as progressive muscle relaxation,
medidation, and deep breathing would be a big help for students to stay
calm and avoid any problem especially in performing tasks and other
activities. By being mindful, calm, relax, and learning different techniques
how to manage stress can promote holistic approach to wellness.
Part 4: Evaluation and Impact
8. Assessing Impact: Explain the process of assessing the impact of the
PathFit Curriculum on individual health and fitness outcomes. What
data or metrics are used for evaluation?
I think assessing the impact of PathFit curriculum will start on collecting data
on student’s health status and fitness by performing different fitness
exercises. This may involve height and weight taking (Body Composition),
fitness level in terms of strength, muscular endurance, power, speed, and
among others. After this process I think, to deliver the PathFit Curriculum as
intended, they have to ensure that students have access to all resources,
and support needed to engage with the program effectively and do
feedbacking through personal interview to gain insights from students about
the challenges, experiences and benefits encountered.
9. Modifications and Refinements: Why is it essential to be able to
modify and refine fitness plans within this curriculum? Provide
examples of situations where adjustments might be necessary.
It is essential to modify and refine fitness plans within this curriculum
because it well help students to achieve their goals. Example, Student A
needs to lose weight. Students A goal is to lose 15 pounds in 3 months.
Students A successfully lose 5 pounds in a month but the progress became
slower. In this case, the adjustment might be necessary by assessing the
potential issue why it is happening.
Part 5: Conclusion
10. Conclusion: Summarize the key takeaways from your research
on the PathFit Curriculum. What are the strengths and potential areas
for improvement in this curriculum?
I’m a public high school teacher and not aware with PathFit Curriculum.
Honestly, when I learned about this during the discussion that we had with
Dr. Exequiel Macapas, I became interested and wanted to learn more about
it. One thing that I liked about this curriculum is that the students were given
an equal opportunities to find their strengths and weaknesses not only in
terms of physical activities and fitness but also about themselves. All
students were given an equal chance and opportunities to pursue and
develop their skills in the fields they’re passionate about. When it comes to
potential areas for improvement in this curriculum, I think that would be only
be on the implementation process.
