CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
The scholarships committee, East African Development Bank (EADB) through The East African
Legislative Assembly (EALA) in conjunction with Case Western Reserve University (USA)
received a grant from the U.S. NIH - Fogarty International Center towards the cost of implementing
the Uganda Health Systems Strengthening Project. This program’s main aim is to build capacity
for medical technology innovation and develop human capacity interested in research in
Biomedical Engineering. The project aims to enhance the quality and accessibility of healthcare
services in underserved regions of UGANDA. By providing scholarships for healthcare
professionals to pursue priority courses, the project seeks to address critical gaps in the health
workforce, especially in hard-to-reach areas. These scholarships will enable more medical
personnel to gain specialized training in fields such as maternal and child health, infectious
diseases, and emergency care, which are vital to improving overall health outcomes. The project
also focuses on strengthening health infrastructure, supporting community-based health initiatives,
and promoting sustainable practices within the healthcare system to ensure long-term benefits for
the population.
The Uganda Health Systems Strengthening Project is currently inviting applications from suitably
qualified Ugandans for scholarships to pursue a diploma in various health-related fields. These
scholarships are aimed at strengthening the health workforce in underserved areas and enhancing
healthcare delivery across the country.
Eligible diploma programs include Nursing, Medical Laboratory Technology, Midwifery,
Psychiatric Nursing, Biomedical Engineering, General Nursing, Comprehensive Nursing, Dental
Technology and Clinical Anaesthesia
Funding will cover tuition, a stipend, and research costs for the duration of the diploma program.
Applicants are encouraged to apply and take advantage of this opportunity to further their education
and contribute to the improvement of Uganda’s healthcare system.
Selection Criteria:
1. A Certificate in Nursing / Midwifery.
2. A certificate in Environmental Health Sciences.
3. A Certificate in Medical Laboratory Techniques.
4. A certificate in A Health-related discipline that is equivalent to Uganda Advanced
Certificate of Education (UACE) as shall be determined by the National Council in
consultation with Uganda National Examinations Board and AHPC
5. Applicants should be ready and willing to undergo oral interviews
