Linear and Non-linear Video Editing:
Equipment and Functions
1. Assemble: It records and replaces all Video, Audio and TimeCode
signals over anything that is on the tape at the time. Used in the early
stages of editing to establish the basic structure and flow of the project,
more like a rough cut.
2. Insert: One can select any combination of Video, Audio tracks to
record onto a previous tape. It “inserts” the video or audio signals into
the existing track and TimeCode already on the tape, without
overwriting them. One can make fine, exact adjustments to the picture
and audio on the tape itself, although in a linear fashion.
3. AB Roll Editing: One switches between the two source VTRs as
though they were live video sources.
