Scenario and the Task

Employee turnover is a huge problem for most companies. Most experts are arguing that this is
because of the economic crisis in Sri Lanka. Some say this is because the companies are not
looking after employees. The business information systems that the employees work with are
also a leading factor. Even though a number of researches conducted for understanding the
reasons for the dynamic environment still much research has to happen in this study area.

You are supposed to select and analyze a medium size service sector business that is already
using information systems to handle its business processes. These information systems may be
manual or partially computerized systems. Gather information using requirement-gathering
techniques such as interviews, observations, questionnaires, document reviews, website reviews,
and sampling. You are asked to make an analysis of the current information systems. Then
evaluate the system’s capabilities with the corporate goal of the company. Produce a report based
on the findings and propose an enhanced information system/s for the company.

Students can add any functionality which will enhance the system and make
the proposed solution more comprehensive.

Tasks:

1. Organizations have different functional areas. Explain the functions of different functional
areas of the selected business organization. Identify and evaluate the information needs of

how it will be helpful to produce valid, accurate and useful information for the management
