One: The Peace of Christ be with You.
All: And also with You.
GATHERING AROUND THE WORD
Call to Worship
One: The promises of the world turn to ashes and dust,
All: but the promises of God last forever.
One: We come to rekindle the gift of God ablaze within us.
All: The Holy One calls to us: “Come!”
One: Let us worship God!
Prayer of Adoration
Eternal God, give us hearts and lives ready to fully serve you in this world.
Even as we gather to worship you with your church around the globe this
day, open our hearts to be accepting of our brothers and sisters in your
Son, Jesus the Christ, that we may be united in our worship this day. We
pray that we will collectively be emblazoned by Your Spirit to fully greet,
accept and love our neighbors even as we share commonly our
communion with you and with one another. AMEN

*Hymn
I Love You, Lord
I love you, Lord, and I lift my voice to worship you;
O my soul, rejoice.
Take joy, my King, in what you hear;
may it be a sweet, sweet sound in your ear.
Prayer of Confession
With the weepers we weep. With the warriors we yearn for peace. With the
exiles we wander far from home, for our hearts wander far from you. We
live in an uncertain world— time and again we turn to people who promise
us security. But God, you are our only source of safety. Help us turn to
you, our heart’s true home. Call us again and lead us home. Lord, teach us
to seek our peace in you. Forgive us for the multitude of our
transgressions. Rekindle a spirit of love and self-discipline within us,
through Jesus Christ.

PROCLAIMING THE WORD
Prayer of Illumination
Reading from the Old Testament
Psalm 26:1-12
Vindicate me, O Lord, for I have walked in my integrity, and I have trusted in the
Lord without wavering. 2 Prove me, O Lord, and try me; test my heart and mind.
3 For your steadfast love is before my eyes, and I walk in faithfulness to you. 4 I
3
do not sit with the worthless, nor do I consort with hypocrites; 5 I hate the
company of evildoers, and will not sit with the wicked. 6 I wash my hands in
innocence, and go around your altar, O Lord, 7 singing aloud a song of
thanksgiving, and telling all your wondrous deeds. 8 O Lord, I love the house in
which you dwell, and the place where your glory abides. 9 Do not sweep me
away with sinners, nor my life with the bloodthirsty, 10 those in whose hands are
evil devices, and whose right hands are full of bribes. 11 But as for me, I walk in
my integrity; redeem me, and be gracious to me. 12 My foot stands on level
ground; in the great congregation I will bless the Lord.

Reading from the New Testament
Hebrews 1:1-4, 2:5-12
Long ago God spoke to our ancestors in many and various ways by the prophets,
2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by a Son, whom he appointed heir
of all things, through whom he also created the worlds. 3 He is the reflection of
God’s glory and the exact imprint of God’s very being, and he sustains all things
by his powerful word. When he had made purification for sins, he sat down at
the right hand of the Majesty on high, 4 having become as much superior to
angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.
Continuing with Hebrews Chapter 2 verse 5:
5 Now God did not subject the coming world, about which we are speaking, to
angels. 6 But someone has testified somewhere, “What are human beings that
you are mindful of them, or mortals, that you care for them? 7 You have made
them for a little while lower than the angels; you have crowned them with glory
and honor, 8 subjecting all things under their feet.” Now in subjecting all things
to them, God left nothing outside their control. As it is, we do not yet see
everything in subjection to them, 9 but we do see Jesus, who for a little while
was made lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because of
the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for
everyone. 10 It was fitting that God, for whom and through whom all things exist,
in bringing many children to glory, should make the pioneer of their salvation
perfect through sufferings. 11 For the one who sanctifies and those who are
4
sanctified all have one Father. For this reason Jesus is not ashamed to call them
brothers and sisters, 12 saying, “I will proclaim your name to my brothers and
sisters, in the midst of the congregation I will praise you.”

One bread, one body, one Lord of all,
one cup of blessing which we bless.
And we, though many, through-out the earth,
we are one body in this one Lord.
Gentile or Jew, servant or free,
woman or man, no more.
refrain
Many the gifts, many the works,
one in the Lord of all.

Reading from the Gospel
Mark 10:2-16
Some Pharisees came, and to test him they asked, “Is it lawful for a man to
divorce his wife?” 3 He answered them, “What did Moses command you?” 4
They said, “Moses allowed a man to write a certificate of dismissal and to divorce
her.” 5 But Jesus said to them, “Because of your hardness of heart he wrote this
commandment for you. 6 But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them
5
male and female.’ 7 ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and
be joined to his wife, 8 and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer
two, but one flesh. 9 Therefore what God has joined together, let no one
separate.” 10 Then in the house the disciples asked him again about this matter.
11 He said to them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits
adultery against her; 12 and if she divorces her husband and marries another,
she commits adultery.” 13 People were bringing little children to him in order that
he might touch them; and the disciples spoke sternly to them. 14 But when Jesus
saw this, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the little children come to me;
do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. 15
Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will
never enter it.” 16 And he took them up in his arms, laid his hands on them, and
blessed them.

RESPONDING TO THE WORD
*Affirmation of Faith The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in
Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead,
and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the
dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the
Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the
dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion
of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life
everlasting. Amen

Let Us Break Bread Together
Let us break bread together on our knees;
Let us break bread together on our knees;
When I fall on my knees, with my face to the rising sun,
O Lord, have mercy on me.
Let us drink wine together on our knees;
Let us drink wine together on our knees;
When I fall on my knees, with my face to the rising sun,
O Lord, have mercy on me.
Let us praise God together on our knees;
Let us praise God together on our knees.
When I fall on my knees, with my face to the rising sun,
O Lord, have mercy on me.

Great Prayer of Thanksgiving
One: The Lord be with you.
All: And also with you.
One: Lift up your hearts.
All: We lift them to the Lord.
One: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
All: It is right to give our thanks and praise.
One: It is truly right and our greatest joy to give you thanks and
praise, O Lord our God, creator and ruler of the universe
who forever sing to the glory of your name:
All: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven
and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.
One: You are holy, O God of majesty, and blessed is Jesus
Christ, your Son, our Lord. In Jesus, born of Mary, your
Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and
truth. Great is the mystery of Faith:
All: Christ has died, Christ is Risen. Christ will come again.
One: Gracious God, pour out your Holy Spirit upon us and upon
these your gifts of bread and wine, that the bread we break
and the cup we bless may be the communion of the body
and blood of Christ
