An easy step-by-step guide:
Align goals with values
An effective goal should be aligned
with the areas of your life you
want/need to improve most.
Try this:
The Wheel of Life Exercise can be used
to evaluate the areas of your life and
determine where you should focus.
Break down your goals
A big scary goal is a just a collection
of small achievable goals.
Try this:
Break your yearly goals down into
monthly/quarterly goals. If you want,
break those down into weekly goals.
Assign a daily habit
For each monthly goal, assign a daily
habit that will move you towards it.
Try this:
When starting, make the habit so easy
it’s nearly impossible to fail. Build the
habit of showing up first, scale later.
Schedule your habits
A habit is MUCH more likely to happen
if you have a consistent time and place
established for it.
Try this:
Put non-negotiable habit blocks into
your calendar and set reminders so
you never forget.
Reward yourself
Periodic rewards increase motivation
and reinforce good behaviors.
Try this:
If you execute your daily habits enough
times in the month, treat yourself with
something you enjoy.
Review your progress
Regular reflection helps you to learn
from the past and plan for the future.
Try this:
Set a time each week/month to do a
quick review of your goals and habits.
Reflect, calibrate, and plan ahead.
