         2 Ms. Poonam Jain
2.2 BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF NATURE OF THE PROJECT
The present proposal is to set up a distillery using grains as raw material. The product ethanol
is intended for use in blending with petrol under EBP Programme. The project is
predominantly grain based and is environment friendly. It will use renewable sources of
energy (biomass) to meet power requirement. CO2 will be the by-product which will be
collected, liquefied stored and sold to other users.
Mostly broken rice will be used as raw material in the distillery units which is easily available
from the local market.
“The project falls under Category ‘B2’ of Schedule 5 (ga), as per the Notification S.O. 2339
(E), dated:-16th June, 2021 and will be appraised by EAC (Industry-II), MoEFCC, New Delhi”
2.3 NEED OF THE PROJECT AND ITS IMPORTANCE TO THE COUNTRY AND/OR REGION.
Fuel Ethanol is basically used for blending petrol supplied by Oil marketing companies (OMCs).
The proposed project will contribute to narrow the gap of demand/ supply of Indian made
Fuel ethanol. Govt. of India has mandated 10% blending of Ethanol in Petrol by 2022 so as to
reduce dependence on imported Crude Oil and to provide a cleaner fuel. The project will help
fulfilling the demand for Ethanol. In addition it, this will also provide employment.
M/s Growthpath Petrochem (P) Limited Page 8
Pre-Feasibility Report w.r.t. 120 KLPD Grain Based Ethanol Plant along with 3.2 MW Co-
generation Power Plant at Village - Memar, Taluka Bawla, District - Ahmedabad, Gujarat
This will also increase income of farmers as other feedstock such as cereals like rice, wheat,
barley, corn etc., to be used for production of Fuel Ethanol which will benefit a large population
of farmers. GOI is encouraging projects to produce ethanol from grains.
2.4 DEMAND – SUPPLY GAP
Currently the petrol sold in the country has above 5% of ethanol, Biofuel extracted from
various locally available sources. India is on the path of achieving a 10% blending target by
2022 which is at present approx. 5% only. In addition, Government of India has also fixed a
target of 15% blending of fuel ethanol with Petrol by 2026 and 20% blending by 2030.
Government of India is also planning to prepone the achievement of 20% blending target by
year 2025. India is one of the largest importers of crude oil. The indigenous production of
ethanol and its increasing blending in petrol will keep reducing this requirement of imported
crude oil. As per the survey, blending of 20% ethanol with petrol can help to create economic
activity of over Rs. 1 lakh Crore every year in the country and save precious foreign exchange.
                           Figure:-2.1 Ethanol Demand Scenario
2.5 IMPORTS VS. INDIGENOUS PRODUCTION
India is self-sufficient in its requirement of ethanol hence there is no import requirement.
2.6 EXPORT POSSIBILITY
The proposed quantity is expected to be consumed in India only and no export potential is
envisaged.
2.7 DOMESTIC / EXPORT MARKETS
Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoP&NG) vide its notification dated 20th September,
2006 directed the Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to sell 5% Ethanol Blended Petrol subject
to commercial viability as per Bureau of Indian Standards specifications in notified 20 States

and 4 UTs with effect from 1st November, 2006. The additional 10 States included Delhi,
Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chandigarh, Kerala, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar
and Jharkhand. Market places such as New Delhi, Ghaziabad, Chandigarh, Pune, Surat and
Vadodara as well as chemical industries of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh & Haryana which are
the potential domestic market for ethanol.
This programme has been extended to whole of India except Union Territories of Andaman
Nicobar and Lakshadweep islands with effect from 1st April, 2019, wherein OMCs sell petrol
blended with ethanol up to 10%. Thus, the demand of ethanol within India is such that the
production of it will be consumed domestically. At present no export is envisaged.
2.8 EMPLOYMENT GENERATION (DIRECT & INDIRECT) DUE TO THE PROJECT
The unit will need Technical qualified personals for organizing the production and then several
skilled workers for operating the unit and for working in workshop, etc. Besides all these types
of workers, a number of semiskilled and unskilled workers will also be required for peripheral
activities like transport, logistics, engineering, Services, commercial services etc. Total
manpower required for the project is 114 persons including 78 Persons as permanent and 36
Person as temporary.
Besides the production staff, some more manpower shall be needed for administrative
purposes. The local untrained manpower also will be trained to slowly take up to the
Semiskilled and Skilled tasks. Initially the unskilled labor will be deployed from local area only.
Subsequently they will be trained to take up higher responsibilities.

A) Grain Storage Silos, Cleaning, Handling and Milling Section
Grain is received from various sources and is pre-cleaned off stones, husk, etc. and then stored
in specially designed storage silos or in bags in storage yard. Grains are continuously lifted
from the bottom of the silos, screened and followed by removal of stones in de-stoner and iron
matters in magnetic separators. Cleaned Grains are then milled using dry milling process in
Hammer Mills. The flour is fed through the bucket elevator and conveyed to the flour silo.
B) Liquefaction Section
Grain flour is mixed with recycle streams and water in Pre-masher and slurry is fed to
Liquefaction tank. Required temperature is maintained by applying steam through steam
sparger in liquefaction tank. The cooking process, accomplished in the above manner, converts
the slurry into a hydrated, sterilized suspension (as starch molecule is solubilized) and is
therefore susceptible to enzyme attack for liquefaction. The liquefied mash is cooled in slurry
cooler and transferred to Fermentation section.
C) Fermentation Section
The purpose of fermentation is to convert the fermentable substrate into alcohol. To prepare
the mash for fermentation, it is diluted with water. Yeast is added in sufficient quantity to
complete fermentation to produce alcohol. At the start of the cycle, the Fermenter is charged
with mash and contents of the Yeast Activation Vessel (Pre-fermenter). Significant heat release
takes place during fermentation. This is removed by passing the mash through heat exchangers
to maintain an optimum temperature. The recirculation pumps also serve to empty the
Fermenters into Beer Well. CO2 evolved during fermentation carries along with it some
entrained alcohol. This CO2 is taken to a CO2 scrubber where it is washed with water to remove
the entrained alcohol. The scrubbed CO2 can then be taken to CO2 plant or vented out. After
emptying of Fermenter, it is cleaned with CIP using cleaning nozzles. After CIP Fermenter is
ready for next batch to be filled.
D) Distillation
Multi-Pressure Pre-heated fermented wash is fed into a series of distillation columns to
increase the alcohol concentration and remove various impurities

Molecular sieve dehydration plant (MSDH):
The Fermented wash is preheated in a fermented wash pre heater and fed to the analyzer
column. The vapors of the analyzer are fed to pre-rectifier column. Bottom liquid from pre-
rectifier column is fed to stripper column. Impure spirit and fuel oil liquid streams from
various columns are introduced in recovery column for processing. Steam is supplied at the
bottom of R/E column re-boiler, simmering column re-boiler and direct steam sparging is done
in the recovery column.
For the ethanol production top product of pre-rectifier is fed to purifier column whereas
bottom liquid is fed to impure spirit purification column. Alcohol from the top of purifier
column as well as fused oil draws from pre-rectifier are fed to recovery. Final alcohol cut is
taken from the top of impure spirit purification column whereas ethanol is drawn from the
bottom of the simmering column.
Rectified Spirit containing at least 95% v/v alcohol is pumped from RS feed tank to
dehydration section for further purification to produce ethanol suitable for blending.
Superheated hydrous alcohol vapors are sent to twin adsorbent beds. The twin adsorbent beds
operate in cyclic manner. Twin beds are provided to allow for bed regeneration to ensure
continuous operation. While one bed is in dehydration mode, the other is in regeneration
mode. The Adsorbent Bed will absorb moisture present in feed vapors and dehydrated alcohol
vapors are released from bottom of the bed.
The vapors are passed through condenser where vapors are condensed. Condensed product
alcohol (@ 99% v/v strength as required for fuel blending) is collected in product receiver.
Ethanol is now suitable for petrol blending, is stored and dispatched to oil companies unit for
blending with petrol.
E) Decantation:
Spent wash after distillation is fed to Centrifuge Decanter for separation of suspended solids.
Wet cake is removed from bottom of Decanter.
Thin slops from decanter are partly recycled into the process and rest is evaporated for further
concentration. The concentrated thin slops called as Syrup is mixed with Wet cake and sold in
wet form as cattle feed (DWGS).
Alternatively the entire mixture can be dried in a DWGS Dryer and then sold in dry form as
Cattle feed (DDGS).
F) Integrated Evaporation
The suggested treatment scheme is a Multi Effect Evaporation Plant for Thin Slop Evaporation.
Shell & Tube type Evaporators with highly efficient liquid distributor working on the principle
of Falling Film and Forced circulation Evaporation are being used. The product at the desired
concentration of 30% w/w Total Solid is obtained at the outlet of the final effect. Each effect is
provided with recirculation cum transfer pumps. The condensate from surface condensers is

collected in a common condensate pot. The condensate is transferred for further treatment by
using centrifugal pump. The system operates under vacuum. Water-ring vacuum pumps are
used to maintain a desired vacuum. Cooling water from cooling tower is used in the surface
condensers for condensing the vapours.
G) DWGS Dryer Section
Wet distiller’s grains shall be fed into the dryer housing at controlled rate through a suitable
feeding system. The Rotary Bundle is enclosed in an insulated dryer housing and on its outer
flights are fixed. Dry, saturated steam is to be supplied to the bundle through rotary joint at one
end & the condensate is discharged through rotary joint mounted of another end. During the
course of rotation, these flights pick up the material and shower them on to the tube bundles.
The heat transfer is primarily by conduction. The water vapors are exhausted through an
Exhaust Blower & passed through a cyclone separator for separating fines. Dry product
partially recycled back to feed conditioner for feed conditioning through Product Screw &
Recycle Conveyor. Entire operation of the Dryer is controlled through Local Indication cum
Control panel.
H) Process Condensate Treatment Section
The process condensate from the evaporation section is treated in this unit and this treated
condensate is then recycled back to process thus reducing the fresh water consumption.
I) Condensate polishing unit:
The rejects from various treatment plants like DM water plant and cooling tower blow down,
condensate from MEE, condensate from dryer etc., will be collected in the collection tank and
treated to recover and reuse maximum possible quantity of water and ensure zero discharge.
All streams collected in the tank, first fed to the clarifier in which chemical treatment (lime and
dolomite treatment) will be given to remove suspended solids, hardness and silica. After this
chemical treatment clarified water is first filtered through media-based filter and sent to
membrane process system consisting of Ultra Filtration and Reverse Osmosis (RO). RO
permeate is recycled back to process. RO rejects will be sent to PCTP.

Co-Generation Power Plant (3.2 MW) operations
General principle of boiler: - Steam boiler (AFBC)
This Boiler (1 x 32 TPH) will operate mainly to feed steam to Distillery 3.2 MW power
generation from Turbine. Proposed 3.2 MW co-generation plant consists of a high pressure
water tube steam boiler extraction cum condensing steam turbine. Fuel in the steam boiler will
be burnt with the help of air in the boiler furnace. Water will be circulated in the boiler drum
and tubes thus getting heated by the flame burning in the boiler furnace. Water comes out of
the boiler drum located at the top of the boiler as steam. Flue gases rise in the boiler furnace
and come in contact with the steam coming out of boiler drum. Steam after coming in contact
with flue gases gets heated up further thus getting superheated. Super-heated steam leaves the
boiler in a pipe. Flue gases after super heating the steam pass through economizer where they
pre-heat the boiler feed water before it enters the boiler drum. After economizer, flue gases
pass through air pre-heaters where they heat the air which is fed to the boiler furnace for
burning the fuel. After air pre heaters flue gases pass through ESP where the dust particles are
collected. The dust is collected from here.
High pressure superheated steam from boiler is passed through a steam turbine, which is used
for distillery process operations. While passing through the turbine, the high pressure and
temperature steam rotates the turbine rotor and an electric alternator mounted on the same
shaft. Electric power is generated by the alternator. This electric power generated is consumed

3.7 RESOURCE OPTIMIZATION/RECYCLING AND REUSE ENVISAGED IN THE PROJECT, IF
ANY, SHOULD BE BRIEFLY OUTLINED.
Water as a resource will be recycled at each possible step of the process and latest technology
and methodology will be adopted to conserve and reuse the resources.
Rain Water Harvesting:
Runoff Calculation = Rain Water Harvesting:
Average rainfall intensity of the area is considered as 800 mm or 0.8 m. The runoff coefficients
for roof top, green area and paved are 0.9, 0.2 and 0.7 respectively.
Roof top area available for rain water harvesting 22,300 m2
Runoff Water from roof top = 22,300 x 0.8 x 0.9 = 16,056 m3
Total Green Area = 13,989.03 m2
M/s Growthpath Petrochem (P) Limited Page 24
Pre-Feasibility Report w.r.t. 120 KLPD Grain Based Ethanol Plant along with 3.2 MW Co-
generation Power Plant at Village - Memar, Taluka Bawla, District - Ahmedabad, Gujarat
Runoff water from Green Area = 13,989.03 x 0.8 x 0.2 = 2,238.24 m3
Total Road & Paved Area = 4000 m2
Runoff water from road and paved area = 6500 x 0.8 x 0.7 = 2,240 m3
Total Rain water can be harvested in Monsoon season (120 days) = 16,056+2,238.24 +2,240
= 20,534.24 m3 say 80% of this rain water will be used during distillery process (considering
20% evaporation and other losses) = 16427.39 m3.
Total water consumption of distillery in normal operation = 438 KLPD or 1,59,870 m3/year.
Thus total water saved by the company in year = 16,427.39 /1,59,870 = 10.27 % say 10% per
year.
Hence, total percentages saving due to rain water use ~10% per year and total water
will be reused in distillery process.
3.8 AVAILABILITY OF WATER ITS SOURCE, ENERGY/ POWER REQUIREMENT AND
SOURCE SHOULD BE GIVEN
One Time Total water requirement for the project will be 1,682 KLD which will be further
reduced through recycling & reuse of 1,244 KLD. Total fresh water demand for distillery
operation is 438 KLD @3.6KL of water/KL of Ethanol. Net fresh water requirement including
power plant of 3.2 MW is 718KLD which will be sourced from ground water and augmented
with rain water. The applications for permission of withdrawal of ground water has been
submitted to CGWA vide application no 21-4/8051/GJ/IND/2021 dated 1/11/2021.

house Co-generation power plant within the project site. Surplus power will be connected to
State Grid.
3.9 QUANTITY OF WASTE TO BE GENERATED (LIQUID AND SOLID) AND SCHEME FOR
THEIR MANAGEMENT/DISPOSAL
The project will be based on “ZERO LIQUID DISCHARGE”.
Fresh water requirement of the project will be met by ground water. Efforts will be made
to conserve as much water as possible by recycling and reusing waste water.
DWGS will be fed to Dryers operating on steam and is dried to make it DDGS – Distillers
   Dried Grain with Soluble.
Process condensate will be cooled and collected into an equalization tank with sufficient
residence time. After equalization, this process condensate will be fed for Ecophotox and
after treatment it will be used for greenbelt development within the complex.
Solid waste from the grain based operations generally comprises of fibres and proteins in
the form of DDGS, which will be ideally used as cattle feed.
Ash from the boiler will be given to brick manufacturing unit.
Used oil & grease generated from plant machinery/gear boxes & D.G. Set will be partly
used in oiling & greasing as lubrication of external parts of machinery & partly will be sold
   to the CPCB authorized recycler.

The plant area is as per revenue detail is non-forest land. There is no village or human
settlement in the plant area. No existing infrastructure within the plant area. The proposed
site is an undeveloped land which does not include forestry, water bodies (including CRZ) etc.
4.6 SOIL CLASSIFICATION
The soils in the district can broadly be classified as:
Black Soils: Black soils cover the southern part of Dholka and eastern part of Dhandhuka
taluka popularly known as “Bhal‟ tract, where cotton is grown in the initial stage of monsoon.
It is not very clayey and contains above 20% of clay and about 40 % of sand. Sub-soil invariably
contains horizons of lime nodules. This type of soil is highly suitable for cultivation of rabi
wheat, which is the main crop raised on this soil. If rains are sufficient in the late monsoon, rabi
jowar and grams are sown. Medium Black Soils are found in Viramgam, Sanand and Dholka
talukas. This soil is suitable for growing bajri, jowar and cotton.
Goradu Soils: Goradu soils vary from fertile brown to sandy loam and are found in City,
Dascroi and parts of Sanand, Dholka and Viramgam talukas. This soil is mostly fertile and

generation Power Plant at Village - Memar, Taluka Bawla, District - Ahmedabad, Gujarat
responds very well to irrigation and manuring. Practically all kinds of crops can grow on this
soil.
Kyari: Kyari soils are found in several parts of City, Dascroi, Sanand, Dholka and Viramgam
talukas. It is the most fertile soil with very good moisture and retentive capacity. Well known
varieties of paddy such as Pankali, kamod, Jirasar, Sukhvel, Sutarsal and Basumati are grown
on this soil.
Rocky soils: A rocky soil is found in Dhandhuka taluka and is known as Kaner tract. It is
shallow, light in texture and fit for early maturing crops like cotton, Bajri, Jowar and Math.
4.7 CLIMATIC DATA FROM SECONDARY SOURCES.
The district is characterized by moist humid climate. The winter season commences in
November and lasts till February. January is the coldest month with mean daily temperature in
the range of 5-10oC and mean daily maximum temperature in the range of 20-25oC. Summer
season starts from March and lasts up to June. It is followed by the monsoon season and lasts
till September. October is transitional period. About 80% of the total annual rainfall is received
during the monsoon months of June to September. The average rainfall of Purnia district is
1411.5mm.
4.8 SOCIAL INFRASTRUCTURE AVAILABLE.
Nearest village is Memar ~0.7 km in NNE direction. There are primary schools, dispensaries,
hospitals, railway station, colleges, market and places of worship in nearby area of the project
site. Most of the villages are electrified. Telephone, Medical facilities and Telegraph facilities
are also available in the nearby towns.

authorities. The project will be completed in 2021-2022. Further proposed project activities
will be carried out in compliance with all the rules and regulation of statutory authority and
provide the control measure and devices to achieve the standard norms.
5.2 EMPLOYMENT & POPULATION PROJECTION
The industry will provide permanent employment to about 78 Persons and about 36 people
will get temporary employment through the project. So, total employment potential of the
project will be about 114 persons. Since the plant is located in the Ahmedabad district in which
trained manpower are already available therefore the employment will be mostly given to
local people therefore there is not going to be any substantial increase in the population of
local villages. However, due to increase economic growth the local youth will get employed and
additional population influx of around 200-300 people in the 10 km radius of plant can at best
be estimated, which includes the addition of persons dependent on the job seeking persons.
5.3 LAND USE PLANNING (BREAKUP ALONG WITH GREEN BELT ETC.)
Total land is 10.47 Acres or 4.23 ha. This land is sufficient for the setup of the Green Field
Grain based distillery project. About 33.0% land has been earmarked for plantation and
greenbelt as per standard norms. Table below gives the % area used in the plant. The
tentative land area statement of proposed project is given as below:-

5.4 ASSESSMENT OF INFRASTRUCTURE DEMAND (PHYSICAL & SOCIAL)
The proposed project is Green Field project of Distillery project activity for which no
substantial additional infrastructure is required. The available road network and
        natural sources of water supply and drainage system are adequate;
It is proposed to adopt rain water harvesting practice within the plant and in
        surrounding villages;
Only roof top water inside the plant will be recharged to ground after proper cleaning.
Rain water falling on paved and green areas within the plant will be cleaned, stored
        inside and reused.
       Power will be sourced from in house CPP;
2 DG sets of 500 KVA each will be installed for emergency backup supply to meet the
contingencies of power cut and power failure. Thus, no additional emergency
        arrangement is required;
There is no other major infrastructural requirement for the project.
5.5 AMENITIES / FACILITIES
The necessary arrangement for proposed project for meeting water supply for drinking
purposes, toilet facilities for workers as well as inward/outward transport operators, parking
facilities, as well as small canteen for workers and guests will be created. A canteen with rest
room will also be available for the supply of tea; snacks; food to the workers and drivers,
visitors etc. Sufficient parking space will be created for the parking of Trucks; cars etc.
Parking Details:
Part A
It is estimated that 50 Nos. of trucks per/day will be required for various industrial activities
Traffic load on internal and external road is calculated as under,
Total trucks = 50 trucks/Day
Frequency of trucks (Nos. of trucks x cycle x up and down) = 50 x 1 x 2 =100 Nos./Day
ECS/Day (Nos. of truck x 3) = 100 x 3 = 300 ECS/Day
ECS per hour = 12.5 say 13 ECS
Part B
Cars of the employees = 10 Nos.
Frequency of cars (Nos. of cars x cycle x up and down) = 10 x 1 x 2 = 20 Nos./Day
PCU/ day (Nos. of car x 1) = 20 x 1 = 20 ECS/Day
ECS per hour = 0.83 say 1 ECS
Part C
Two wheelers of the employees = 70 Nos.
Frequency of two wheelers (Nos. of two wheelers x cycle x up and down) = 70 x 1 x 2 = 140
Nos./Day

generation Power Plant at Village - Memar, Taluka Bawla, District - Ahmedabad, Gujarat
ECS/day (Nos. of two wheeler x 0.5) = 140 x 0.5 = 70 ECS
ECS per hour = 2.91 say 3 ECS
Grand Total of ECS (A+B+C) = 13 + 1 + 3 = 17 ECS vehicles will move per hour.
Hence, Total no. of parking proposed = {(50 x 3) + 10 + (70/2)} = 150+10+35 = 190 ECS
