DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS

Ⅰ. LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Students will be able to:

 differentiate between prime and composite numbers.

 identify prime and composite numbers up to 100.
 apply their knowledge of prime and composite numbers to solve problems.

Ⅱ. SUBJECT MATTER
A. Topic: understanding prime and composite number
B. Reference:Curriculum guide pages 107 and 108
C. Materials: Whiteboard or chalkboard,Markers or chalk,Number cards (1-100), ,Prime and composite
number charts.
D. Time allotment: 10/15 minutes
E. Strategies: Collaborative learning and lecture method
F. Values integration:In life there are many instances that we experience, and by that we need to value
acceptances of what you have and what you receive even if it is equal or not

Ⅲ. LEARNING STRATEGIES
Component Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
A. Daily Routine
1. Prayer
Okay class please stand up let us pray. "Lord, I ask that You go before me in this
Engage ______ please lead the prayer. class. Please prepare my heart and mind to
focus, and grant me the understanding of
what is being taught.amen"
2. Greetings
Good morning class! Good morning ma’am

Hows your day? Good ma’am

that’s great .

3. Energizer
Before you seat lets have our energizer to
waking up your body. Okay? (the student will follow the video )

“Roll Your Hand”

Okay class you may take your seat.

4. Checking of attendance
Okay class lets check your attendance
when I call your name say present okay? Okay ma’am

5. Classroom Reminders

Class before we start you must know our

classroom rules or reminders.
1.Raise your hand before asking or speaking.
2.Be confident to share your ideas.

5.Always listen to your teacher

6. Brainstorming

Review:
Before we proceed to our new lesson for
today, let us first recall what we discussed
yesterday . so yesterday we discussed about
skip counting right? So I have here a short
activity if you really understand our lesson
yesterday. All you need to do is to fill the
missing number after the
numbers .understood? Okay I will cal your
name then you will answer.

“ I can Count by 5” Expected answers:

Explore Motivation:
This time we are going to play a game!
I will group you into two teams. So this side is
the team A and this side is team B now make
your line. then I have here a different objects
in this table.
What you are going to do?
Is if you hear my command “group your
objects into 3” go and pick your objects, you
will group this set of objects according to that
specific number. Then identify if it can be
divided evenly or it cannot be divided evenly.
(As fast as you can.).If you are done Your
answer should begin with the phrase “I
believe”.
(For example: I believe it can be
divided evenly!) and so on.

As long as you grouped your objects quickly

and identify it mentally you can now take your
turn and answer. Whoever has the correct
answer will receive 1 point.
I think everyone is ready!
Let’s play “Pick Me, Know me game!”.

1. (12 Paper clips)

Grouped your objects into 4! Possible answer

1. divided evenly
2. Cannot be divided
3. Cannot be divided
2. (10 Marker pens) 4. Divided evenly
Grouped your objects into 3 5. Divided evenly
6. Cannot be divided

4. (8 hair clip)
Grouped your objects into 4

5. (18coins)
Grouped your objects into 3

6.. (15 stones)

Grouped your objects into 4

So, class how did you find the game?

That’s great !
What have you noticed when you had to group
a set of objects according to specific number in
group?

Anyone from team A? I find the game really fun and

challenging!
How about from team B?

From team A: I have noticed that there

Ok, that’s right! Both of you has a point there are instances that all groups of objects
are instances that a certain number of things had equal numbers.
may or may not be distributed equally in
groups. Team B: I have noticed that when I
grouped those objects according to
specific numbers there are some things
were left in the group.
Look at this picture. From the given number as
a product, how will you know which ones
have more than two factors and those with
only 2 factors?

Teacher!

Pupil 1: In order to find out which have

more than 2 factors and those with
only 2 factors is by multiplying and by
dividing a number.
That’s right. We can multiply and divide a
number which is divisible to that number. And
we can use many ways in order to find out
which ones have more than two factors and
with only 2 factors.

One example is making a rainbow factor can

be used.

Okay now class do you have any idea what is

our lesson for today?
No teacher
Explain Okay, our lesson for today is about prime and
composite number. Do you have any idea what
is prime number? Prime numbers is just have 1 or 2
factor
Very good, how about the composite number?
Alright . Composite number are have 2 or more
factor
Very good

Prime numbers are natural numbers that are

divisible by only 1 and the number itself. In
other words, prime numbers are positive
integers greater than 1 with exactly two
factors, 1 and the number itself.

example of prime numbers

2,3,5,7,11
Prime number factor
2 1,2
3 1,3
5 1,5
7 1,7
11 1,11

Another example can you guess class in this 4

numbers which are the prime number?

1.19
2.21
3.37 Answer
4.30 19 and 37

Very good class because 19 and 37 has no

other factor other than 1 and itself while the
21,and 30 has more than 2 factor.

Do you understand what is prime number

now? Yes

While the numbers that can be divided evenly

is known as COMPOSITE NUMBER.
Composite are numbers has more than 2
factors other 1 and itself.

Example of composite numbers

4,6,8,10,12

Composite number factors

4 1,2,4
6 1,2,3,6
8 1,2,4,8
10 1,2,5,10
12 1,2,3,4,6,12

Another example can you guess the composite

number?

1.98
2.61
3.45 Answer
4.22
45 and 22
Very good the composite number is 45 and 22
Lets find their factor pair using a rainbow
factor.

45 = 1x45
3x15
5x9
that’s the factors of 45

The factors of 22= 1x22

2x11
Now class do you understand what is prime
numbers?
Very good.

yes
Lets try if you are understand our lesson.
I have here a number chart 1 to 100

All you need is to identify the prime and

composite numbers for the prime you will
encircle it purple and for the composite is light
green understand?.
After that I will show you the answer if you are
correct. Yes ma'am

Group activity
Elaborate It seems that you have indeed understood our
lesson.
Now, to further understand the lesson, let us
have a group activity. But before that let us
read the following criteria in making a group
activity.

criteria

Cooperate or 2 points
participate with the
group.
All members were 2 points
well disciplined.
The activity was 2 points
well presented
Finished the 2 points
activity on time
total 8 + 2 =10

now I will group you into 3 groups.

What you are going to do. Each group will
received a number. And that number you need
to give it factors and identify whether it prime
number or composite number you need to
write your answer in a rainbow chart.

You will be given only 5 minutes to prepare

and three minutes each for presentation.

Your 5 minutes starts now! Expected answers:

Direction: Write your answer in a rainbow

factor and complete its factor. Identify the
product whether Prime or Composite
Numbers.

Group 1.

Group 2.

Group 3.

Generalization
Again class.
What is prime numbers?
Yes, rizza PRIME is a number cannot be divided
evenly, it has only 2 factors, 1 and
itself.
How about a composite numbers?
Yes, erica COMPOSITE are the numbers with
more than 2 factors other 1 and itself.
Very good. Always remember this class.

Remember:

 0/1 is neither a prime or

composite number
 All even numbers except 2 is a
composite number.
 Not all odd is a prime numbers
(e.g 9, 15, 21, 25)
 No prime greater than 5 ends in
5.
Any number greater than 5 is
considered as composite
numbers.

Evaluate Expected answers:

Direction: Given the numbers as a product,
write all the factors in each number and tell
whether it is a prime or composite number.

You have only 5 minutes to finish your task.

You may begin.
..
Pass your paper if you are done.
