SUBJECT: Invitation to Participate in the Wildlife Quiz Contest for Mindoro as part of the
celebration of Tamaraw Month 2024

A conservation day to you!
We are writing to formally invite the schools under the Oriental Mindoro Schools Division Office to
participate in the forthcoming Mindoro Wildlife Quiz Contest, to be held on October 12, 2024.
This significant event is being organized by Mindoro Biodiversity Conservation Foundation, Inc.
(MBCFI), in collaboration with the Tamaraw Conservation Program (TCP), DENR - Provincial
Environment and Natural Resources Offices (PENRO) of Oriental Mindoro and Occidental Mindoro,
Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB), and the Provincial Government Environment and Natural
Resources Offices (PGENRO) of Oriental Mindoro and Occidental Mindoro. This undertaking is aligned
with the commemoration of Tamaraw Month and National Indigenous Peoples Month, celebrated
in October of every year, with this year’s theme, “Tamaraw at Katutubo: Pamana at Likas na Yaman,
Patuloy na Pangalagaan.”
The Wildlife Quiz Contest is designed to engage and inspire participants from High Schools (Grades 7
to 12) across Oriental Mindoro and Occidental Mindoro. This competition aims to assess students'
knowledge in subjects encompassing basic biology and ecology, Philippine biodiversity, biogeography
and wildlife, environmental laws, biodiversity conservation, and environmental issues and current
events.
Each participating school is invited to nominate one team, consisting of two bona fide students,
accompanied by a single coaching instructor during the event. The final winners of the quiz contest
will be eligible to participate in the National Wildlife Quiz in November 2024 which is being organized
by the Philippine Biodiversity Conservation Foundation, Inc. We also encourage for the Division Office
to hold their own qualifying rounds to narrow down the representatives.
To facilitate a seamless registration process, participating schools are kindly requested to complete
the registration by accessing the provided link on or before September 30, 2024:

Further details such as the final event venue and sources for review materials will be communicated
via email to the Schools Division Offices by the last week of September at the latest. We trust that this
endeavor will significantly contribute to the educational and environmental aspirations of
Mindoreños.
In addition, we would also like to request you or a representative from your office to serve as one of
the Board of Judges for the Oriental Mindoro run of the quiz contest, whose duty will be to rule on
answers, objections, protests, or other matters brought before it. All reference materials from which
the questions are derived will be made available to the judges for verification of answers, if needed.

MECHANICS
1. The quiz contest is open to participants from High Schools throughout Oriental Mindoro and
Occidental Mindoro.
2. Each participating school shall be represented by one team of two bona fide students.
3. The questions are based on the subjects of basic biology and ecology, Philippine biodiversity,
biogeography and wildlife, environmental laws, biodiversity conservation and environmental issues
and current events.
4. The quiz contest shall have three rounds: Easy, Average and Difficult. No elimination will take place.
5. Each question will be asked and will be repeated only once. Questions will be flashed on screen.
6. Cheating in any form (esp. coaching from the audience) shall automatically disqualify the team.
7. Clarifications, questions, and protests should be addressed to the Board of Judges BEFORE the next
question is asked otherwise these shall be considered void.
8. The decision of the Board of Judges shall be final and irrevocable.
9. All teams will be given 10 seconds to answer each question, which must be legibly written on the
board provided by the organizers.
10. The quiz master will signal the start and end of the 10 second period.
11. Each correct answer will be equivalent to:
Easy = 1 Point
Average = 3 Points
Difficult = 5 Points
12. Wrong spelling is considered a wrong answer.
13. In case of a tie at the end of the Difficult round, a set of three tie-breaker questions will be asked
among the teams that are tied. Each correct answer to these questions is equivalent to 1 Point.
14. Team with the highest point after the difficult round will be declared as Grand Winner. Runners up
will be declared as well namely, first and second runner up.
