What is Usability Heuristic

Usability heuristics are a set of general rules of thumb that

designers and usability experts follow to help create more
accessible, user-friendly and intuitive digital products such as a
website or an application.

These heuristics were first introduced by Jakob Nielsen in 1994

and have since become the benchmark for evaluating user
interfaces.

Severity Rating

The following 0 to 4 rating scale is used to rate the severity of usability problems:

No heuristics broken: I don't agree that this is a usability problem at all.

Cosmetic problem only: need not be fixed unless extra time is available on project.

Minor usability problem: fixing this should be given low priority.

Major usability problem: important to fix, so should be given high priority.

Usability catastrophe: imperative to fix this before product can be released.
